shame on apple for not using USB C instead of crappy designed lightning cable connections for these new phones.
its not called thinking different it's compatibility with others.
You want millions of people to be forced to by new accessories???? Fail. I’ll never support USB-C on iPhone

Love my mini. Coming from an iPhone 7 (4.7”) and it feels almost the same size but a little easier to use one handed because of the flat sides. There’s not much I’d want to change about it except trading the ultra wide for a zoom lens. It’s my first FaceID phone, and I’d say so far it’s different from TouchID but neither better nor worse overall.

Honestly my favorite thing is the speed - my 7 lagged bad on iOS 14, and this is soooo smooth and fast.

I have no idea what the verge was on about . The pro max is not too big at all. I think the flat edges make it much easier to hold compared to the previous pro max as it feels like you have a good grip to it. I am also managing to use it one handed including typing this ! I love this phone the best iPhone I’ve had to date and my last one was the X though I bought and returned the 11 pro max as the curved edge was a bit slippy and I kept feeling like I would drop it!

Apple should have call it the super size iPhone pro max. Hopefully Apple re think it’s screen sizes and go back to 6.5” that the sweet spot or make it too where its not so wide

It seems like Apple is really starting to differentiate the 12 Pro Max models with better cameras, due to having a bigger camera protrusion. Maybe they start to really differentiate it next year with a bigger telephoto and ultra-wide-angle lenses as well.

Definitely NOT a fan of the anodized coating on the aluminum "bumper" of my Mini. It's going to get scratched up quickly for people (such as myself) that go naked. Probably going to have to put a "film" over it.....ugh.

The rest of the phone looked nice though. I didn't get a chance to play with it yet, as it arrived right as I was leaving for work.
The Alu finish provides more scratch resistance than stainless steel Pro versions.
what else should they use?

Lightning is very sturdy and well-designed for a charging port (that also allows for limited bandwidth data transfer). Lightning is much better and less fragile than Micro-USB from a mechanical standpoint - and still better than USB-C. Easier to remove lint out of.

I absolutely get the clamouring for USB-C on iPads that replace a notebook or even desktop. I don't why iPhones "need" to get it.
One other thing, I’m sooooo glad Apple didn’t cave to the USB-C crowd. Would’ve been disappointing if they did. I hope they skip USB-C and just go completely portless
...neither do I get why an iPhone should be portless. Wired connectivity is more reliable, faster and more efficient for charging than induction charging.

Got my Pro Max today, 256, Pacific Blue. Transfer was flawless, finally dealt with the Apple mail error messages about not being verified. My suggestion for Apple is to make the MagSafe charger cord longer! Really not long enough! An it’s not line the old Belkin disc charger you could disconnect from the base and substitute a longer cord. It’s bad enough the adapter is sold separately from the charger. Really!

Got my mini and I honestly don’t notice in use that it’s any smaller than my X unless I hold them side by side. Everything seems faster will be interesting to see how the battery does.

I think those two are best options out of the current lineup. I don't think regular 12 adds anything to the mini other than bulk (and price), so if I would want a bigger/pro phone I'd definitely get the max, which really look epic, almost in the way first generation Galaxy Note I used to own looked at it's time.

But since I don't need (or want) large size, it's mini for me. A bit bigger than the original SE that I currently own, but still good and the difference in screen size is pretty significant (especially compared to the new SE/6/7/8-series design, which are mostly just bulkier).

Oh, and I love how wallet is exactly the same width, looks great, I think it's the perfect minimalist combination.

Having just gone to the shop to play around with the Mini, I’m cursing Apple for now making the smaller pro this size. A phone hasn’t felt so good in my hand in a while. I have gone from the 7>X>XS Max>XS, and I wish to go even a step down in size. Am I sacrificing too much, in terms of RAM & camera performance, if I go with the Mini? Just got my wife the 11 Pro, and my daughter could get the Mini from me when she turns 10 - 2 years time.

After seeing my wife's 12 Mini I'm waiting to see what the real world battery life turns out to be. If its OK then I'll get one for myself. I had the 12 Pro and returned it planning to get the bog standard 12, after seeing the mini in the flesh as it were, I'm definitely leaning towards that option.

Totally agree. If I had a choice of USB-C for an iPhone or portless, give me a totally Portless iPhone. [It’s completely manageable, just with the idea of how iTunes would need to be restored/hard reboot.] We’re moving into an era where wireless charging is slowly becoming more predominant, the Apple Watch is technically already there and wireless CarPlay is also growing] and the reduction/elimination of wires I totally welcome. I’m ready for this change when Apple is.

Of course with all that I am still concerned about trying to use a Pro Max one handed and the weight and size of it, especially after 3 years removed from the Plus iPhones with my X.

Exactly. As I’m writing this I’m laying in bed holding the phone with one hand and I have to switch hands or use both or else my forearm starts to hurt from holding it suspended in that position :/
