I wanted to be able to make the Pro Max work, but the lack of USB-C, fingerprint reader, and hideous notch (with sadly disfunctional faceid) just don't work for me and it will go back. Great camera though!
Gee, my Face ID works flawlessly. One of my most-anticipated and most-appreciated features of my new Pro Max.

Why on earth did you waste your time ordering the Pro Max when you knew it has a notch, has no Touch ID, and comes with a lightning port (and lighting-USB-C cable)?

I've come to the conclusion that some people just like to complain. There's multiple smaller options, so I don't understand the complaints and shrug them off.

I didn't get a mini and then complain about how small it is. The name tells you what it is.
Agree 100%. For me, the Max is too big, but that's just my taste. It's too big *for me*, but not for others. I would say, though, a valid complaint about the Max is that you can't adjust the springboard icon padding. Someone posted screenshots of their Max vs an older Plus and the Max has room for another row of icons on the home screen, but it won't allow it. Thankfully that is something Apple can adjust if they want, via software.

I have an 8, and enjoy TouchID and a home button, but the 12 mini is tempting. I am glad Apple has made more sizes available and didn't cripple the 12 mini - it's got the same specs as the 12 [except screen size and a smaller battery] and I hope that trend continues.

I’ve found it very easy to adapt to the slightly different dimension of the 12 pro Max. I like how it feels flatter and wider than the 11 pro Max. I’m using the Apple leather case and the fit is perfect. Probably won’t use MagSafe until there is a strong car mount at a reasonable price.

I wish they would’ve kept it bare. I’ve never had good luck with anodized surfaces.
Hm. But all apple alu products are and were anodized. Maybe u mean the silver ones doesn’t show scratches that much.
bare alu is quite soft and would scratch much more easy than the anodized layer

Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry, I should have been more specific. Once you scratch the coloring, you start seeing the "silver" color within the scratches (versus the silver anodized, which hides them quite well).

This comment makes absolutely no sense. You're returning a phone because it lacks features you knew it did not have prior to buying it.

I am torn. The 12 pro Max just seems to big and probably heavy to me. My XR is pretty heavy as it is. But that video stabilization is really quite noticeable and awesome!

One other thing, I’m sooooo glad Apple didn’t cave to the USB-C crowd. Would’ve been disappointing if they did. I hope they skip USB-C and just go completely portless

When people say they want portless, they are completely ignoring that there is a great big world out there and that people use their phones in other ways. For instance, what about people that use their phones with medical devices that read their blood for instance? They need a port for that.

You want millions of people to be forced to by new accessories???? Fail. I’ll never support USB-C on iPhone

Wouldn’t be the first time people were forced to by new accessories though as the removal of the headphone jack would point to. And switch to USB-c on Macs and ipad would point to.

Article Link: Hands-On With the New iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Mini

I am so dissapointed!!!! I have been replacing my phone with the SE built on the 5 chassis. I have been waiting for the 12 mini to be revealed and there is one thing that I cannot believe or can i accept when paying for a phone over the course of the next two years. THE GLASS BACK!!!!!!! Why oh why?!?!?!?!?! I was so excited to walk into Verizon yesterday, planned to sell my soul to the tech devils. I was ready to pay the 149.99 up front for the highest available storage. I was ready for the monthly deductions form my bank account. I thought I was ready for the newest iPhone and I thought it would be absolute perfection. The engineer that decided on the glass back... kick them between the legs!!! I almost went to the Pro, but I had to reality check myself. My pockets aren't that big. Not only could I buy another running and driving car for that money (probably an early 2000s Toyota Camry that will still do 130mph). I also don't have room in my pants for this thing to be surrounded by a DURABLE case.

If I recall correctly, 7 generations ago Apple ditched the glass back. I got gifted a galaxy s10 and broke that glass back in the week I awaited delivery of the case. I touted how dumb Samsung is, that apple figured this out almost a decade ago. well here we are in 2020 and things apparently are no longer that clear to the engineers over at Apple anymore. Whoever is leading the design team should be demoted. We need phones that are small and rugged, like the original iPhone SE that was based on the 5 chassis. One with a pocketable size, even with the case around it. WE don't carry purses, or have any more room in our pockets than we have for the screws, wire nuts, drill bits, bolts, sockets, nails, coins, cash or whatever else we accumulate during the day.

WE are MEN and we need a phone that is built like a MAN, not some phone that had its fingernails painted with different color polishes. WE need a phone made of metal, not of glass. WE need the unbreakable. So, I guess, WE will need to buy our overstock 5/SE iPhone from ebay because some group of sissys over at apple put a glass back on the newest equivalent.

Apple lost at least one sale this weekend. Thats all!

Regards
Louken

I never thought i would feel a phone is too big. And no this phone is not to big for me yet, typing on it is quite difficult. My hands fit perfectly on the keyboard on the iphone 10xr that i had before. now there is a stretch to hit the buttons and the send button is smaller. I find typing with 2 thumbs is frustratingly slower , and i often miss the send button

USB-c is indeed to weak on an phone imho.
even on my MacBook Pro there seems to be some wiggle room after 3 years. Luckily it got 4 ports, but on a phone they are much heavier used. Lighting is getting a bit on but from a mechanical point of view it is much much better and stronger.
Exactly. As I’m writing this I’m laying in bed holding the phone with one hand and I have to switch hands or use both or else my forearm starts to hurt from holding it suspended in that position :/
are you well? I can hold an iPad Pro 12.9 with one hand (well, between index finger and thumb) while laying on bed and can do that easily for 15-30 minutes before switching. My 12PM is so light in comparison to the need to be careful not falling a sleep (and getting hit by the phone).

What is wrong with wireless? Kid (9yo) next door has a blood glucose sensor in his arm and swipes his phone to read his blood sugar. It also automatically sends this to his mom so she can review them and call school/trainer if something needs to be done. All wireless!! My mother has a blood pressure sensor that sends them to her phone via Bluetooth. Works with ease and is quick. Her doctor can read the values over time.
I know there are situations when wired is better. But sometimes thing do improve. E.g. I hated wireless headphones, but they have improved and become useful (wh-1000m3 or my AirPods Pro)
apple is usually not the first, but when it does implement a new feature, it does so really well. Most of the time.

So one of the complaints about switching to USB-c is that it would require new accessories. And what do you want to do? Eliminate the port and make people buy more accessories. Fantastic! 😂

hahaha, yeah, I know and it is a waste of all the lightning cables I've got around.
And up until now I wasn't a fan of Qi chargers because if you do not put your device in exactly the right spot, it gets really slow. But that is solved by the magsafe charger. I do hope this becomes an industry standard so other (cheaper) brands will start making chargers as well.

On the other hand, I'm happy. I bought a 12 WITH lightning port.
That's because I wanted a new phone, but also because I've got a magnificent headset. It's small but with custom molded/3D printed in-ear piece, very good sound, high quality microphone with excellent noice reduction. Driving a cheap small cat but the other side can't hear I'm driving. (It's a Phonak ComCom). But this thing does need a 3.5mm jack. Lighting adapter works perfect, but without lightning port...

Point is, phones are polluting and the change of cable-standard (or change to wireless) doesn't help the fight, but I think cables and chargers are just a (very, very, very) small part of pollution problem on our planet.

Nice! I think I need a custom earpiece. Every in-ear I try hurts my ears no matter what tips I use.

That was exactly my reason. I used them for hearing protection, but then discovered that they also had a headset. But it is an industrial solution, not for listening music in the train.

Anyone else having connectivity problems?

cellular sometimes locks up

weak wifi connection won’t switch to cellular

slow slow wifi
