I was excited about the MagSafe. I went out to my car and attached it to a phone holder as soon as I got it. To my surprise, it stuck!

Then, I gave it the tiniest tap to simulate a bump in the road and the phone fell.

I guess the video of the wallet not staying attached should have convinced me that the MagSafe was near useless, but I was hoping it would be usable for things like a phone mount. The thought of someone making a pop socket using MagSafe is ridiculous.

I really hope Apple just releases a battery case and I can just ignore the MagSafe. I’ve been spoiled using the smart battery cases for the last few years. I definitely won’t be buying a stick on battery that relies on MagSafe now that I know it won’t be able to hold it on securely.

I got my 12 pro today

I think I really felt it to be uncomfortable initially

But as I used it more it became more comfortable

Now its pretty solid to hold. Still not sure if ill keep it or go Max.

I've got the 12 Pro coming today, as my 11 Pro Max is super large and heavy for me with the Apple battery case. With the camera improvements, though, I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten the 12 Pro Max - anyone have any thoughts?

If the camera is REALLY important to you, it might be worth getting the 12 Pro Max. Apple claims that the sensor on the Max is 40% larger, and gives 87% better low-light pictures. How does one measure a photo better than the other, and determines it's 87%? Beats me! But that's what Apple is saying.

I'm personally coming from an XS Max, I got the iPhone 12 Pro today. Loving the form factor (I missed this industrial design), and trying to not let it blind me from my decision. I've got 14 days to return to get the Max, or just be happy with this. The reason I downgraded in size was to have something I can use one handed more easily, and to make me use my iPad more.

The 12 mini will carry the iPhone 12 model year on its size alone. The 12 will be called a Tim Cook Crock.

"It's not bad; it's not great. It is just what gets us earnings to get us to 2021."

Hard to blame them, though. The right Qualcomm chip isn't ready. 5G isn't ready. Pandemic. And yet the world still expects iPhone 12.

If you had an 11 Pro, you weren’t the target group to upgrade and you shouldn’t have.

You guys keep saying this but it’s simply not true. And if even those who tend to upgrade annually aren’t the targets then Apple is doing something wrong.

There’s a reason Apple focused on 5g and brought in Verizon who has the highest speeds. Then they focused on a14 and camera. And made sure to mention Pros a lot. How many “Pros” in apples mind do you think still use an older iPhone like 6S? Those old phone users are definitely not their target. Not for iPhone pros.

As an iPhone 11 Pro Max user I’m definitely upgrading and clearly see reason to. 5g. Brighter for hdr content screen. Bigger screen. Better form factor (I don’t use cases). HDR video recording. Bigger sensor. Sensor shift stabilization. More ram.

I’m good with this. But I’m definitely a small niche who cares about this stuff as are probably most of us in these forums along with reviewers. But we are the ones who, in turn, brag about how great this stuff is and get those other older buyers on the upgrade bandwagon. Apple knows this.

That people on here are disappointed in 12 or more likely the 12 pro just tells us that apple failed somewhere. Disappointing MagSafe? Overhyped 5g or camera in the little Pro? Needed that one feature that this hardware enables that just wows users? Maybe. That’s on Apple. Or perhaps they thought the redesign alone and flat edges was the icing on cake.

Plus, smaller boxes means you can ship more units per pallet. Makes a massive difference in the volumes Apple ship
You do realise they have simply dumped these once bundled items in to separate packages or worse still offloaded to 3rd parties to make way on their pallets for even more packages of new inefficient wireless chargers and magnetised add ons etc

This is win win for Apple and shareholders and simply smoke and mirrors on true environmental impacts which is likely the looser here if the carbon footprint was accurately assessed

For me it was about an hour, with 139 GB of data (most of that photos) out of 256 GB. Don't know how that would compare to a restore from a backup via iTunes.
I though there is an iPhone to iPhone transfer tool which does transfer lot faster than other wireless methods. For me, my iPhone 11 to iPhone 11 Pro Max(as I couldn't stand the liquid retina 820p screen) with 20-30 odd GB took just few minutes(10 minutes off I remember correctly)

MagSafe... you better buy a couple of these, I see the cable will break within months, if not weeks...

There is very little difference between most quality cameras when there is good lighting conditions (e.g. broad daylight). The obvious difference comes when there is poor light. In good light you will be flat out seeing any difference between 11 pro, 12 pro, a good DLSR, or even a 2020 SE, and what difference you do see will mostly be due to the software presenting the photo to you. In low light the 12 pro will beat the 11 pro, the SE won't even be in the game (but mostly due to lack of night mode software, not so much the camera - but if you gave it night mode then it would be almost as good as the 11 pro), and the DLSR will wipe the floor with all of them, as it has massive lenses, and a massive sensor in comparison. Software can be very clever, and the LIDAR adds something, but physics can't be beaten (and you can post process the DLSR RAW files with very clever software too, making the results phenomenal). When it comes to low light photography, thinner and lighter is the antichrist.

So if it is software then Apple is not using the same software for 11 pro. Isn’t that worse. The night mode software could have launched for XS Max but Apple chose not to. These kind of things make me cringe at their environment friendliness by removing a charger. So we should upgrade phones instead of Apple writing better software for older phone cameras.

Faster processor and neural engine with more AI, better camera and 5G. Throw in MagSafe and the redesign...not sure what else you’d want as a “Pro” for a 1 year update.

At least in the Por Max, the camera is going to be significantly better,

What about that cord that connected to the round plate. If you going to pull the cord every time to detach the charging plate, that cord is going to brake after a week.

Well, to be fair it wasn't really aimed at 11 owners, though Apple surely doesn't mind the sales, they say themselves that the typical user keeps their phone for ~3 years. There have been an even bigger bulk building up of people keeping their phones for 3-4 years now and Apple probably hope to snag a lot of those wth a redesign and 5G.

Exactly.

The first few years of the iPhone, the software and hardware were rapidly advancing, the devices were cheaper, and yearly upgrades were almost a necessity for techies. You almost needed new hardware to run the rapidly-improving software.

Hardware now is better able to handle future versions of iOS, innovation is slowing, the phones are more expensive, and it’s harder to convince people to upgrade each year, nor does it seem that is the goal.

I skipped the 7 to keep my 6S Plus, bought the X, and would still have that if I hadn’t broken it. I upgraded to the XR, but it felt more like a downgrade. Getting the 12 Pro, and Im sure it will last me two years, maybe three.

I would love to know why they decided to put polished steel on a flat surface to the sides?
It makes no sense whatsoever except for their second largest market and their love for shiny shiny...........
