Because bright-ish red isn't possible with the PVD process being used by Apple to color the bands on the iPhone X.
The 8 & 8+ bands are Aluminum which takes color really easily. The X bands are stainless steel already. You “can” anodize steel but it’s more difficult because is “stainless”. Changing the material of the bands on X or using paint would be an actual change to the electrical property and then you wouldn’t have interchangeable parts for one color of one model.

I really like the Red. It’s a proper Candy Red like high gloss auto paint (even though it’s inside the glass back) it’s way better than the lame attempt with the anodized red aluminum in the past.

Read up on what you're trying to talk about. Aluminum can be anodized in almost any color. You can't anodize steel at all, even if you put quotation marks around "can." There are limited processes for surface coloring of stainless, of which PVD is one. Color selection with PVD is limited, and bright red is not an option.

Then only red on the back of the phone just like the silver model? I actually think it would look good.

I agree with a few others that the topic is misrepresented. It is not a new color, rather the Product Red is a color dedicated for a cause. With that said, I'd like to know how much Apple is donating for every Red product that is sold. I am under the impression only a dollar is contributed for each product sold.

Apple should of made a X RED anyways! People would of purchased it in quantity! Now, people love the color but it is old style; not the new style that Apple is moving forward on in 2018! So, that means buying something that is going to be faded out in September 2018!

I do, too. But there is probably some group of Visual Esthetic Police in Cupertino who (ha ha, pardon the pun) would see red if someone showed them a prototype. Too bad, though!

I have wondered the same thing - what is the actual amount going to the sponsored cause? (Thinking maybe I should google whether there's a minimum % that is required if you use the Product(Red) trademark?)

Edit - as you might guess there isn't a lot of information available. Wikipedia has the following data on the iPod Touch Gen 5, which is the most recent Apple product for which the page shows real data. Apple's donation for this item was a whisker over 3% of MSRP.

October 15, 2012
MP3 player Apple Inc.
iPod Touch(PRODUCT)REDSpecial Edition
Apple announces an iPod Touch 5th generation (PRODUCT)RED available only through Apple's website or an official Apple Store.[40]
Donation amount: $13.20 (64 GB)[44]
MSRP: $399 for 64 GB model (launch), $299 for 64 GB model (current)

Best Buy had a pretty nice promo running when this came out on Friday - $200 off the 8, $150 off the Plus. I was all set to go upgrade my 7 Plus (on the AT&T Next Every Year, with this promo, would've been less monthly than what I'm currently paying and I'm not particularly ready for the X design/Face ID, etc.). Alas, the promo ended Saturday. CRAP. Ah well, guess I'll wait until the next one, hopefully. Wanted to stay on the mid-cycle upgrade since I'm ok with not copping day one and I like for them to work out manufacturing issues and to take advantage of mid-cycle deals.

I can't speak for anyone else but it's HEAVY . I went from the 7 to the 8 plus......I thought the size would be the issue but my hand adapted to the size quickly, but the weight is taking some getting used to. I LOVE IT but need to rest it on my knee or table after using it for a time. I love the red color, it's very sleek and I'm glad I went with the plus over the X. I will eventually have to adapt to the hand gestures but I love the ease of the home button until they do away with it.

Wow hands on with a color. This is becoming a really bad joke.
Where the hell are the damn computers and monitors and routers Apple?........
Bloody useless.

i did that, my red 8 plus is coming monday, honestly i miss the bigger feel of the plus, i know screen size is basically the same , but the plus feels bigger, i do love the x but will get the x plus which is more up alley if and when that comes out
I did the same. After getting my iPhone X 8 times replaced (yes, eight) its enough.
Which version did you get? 64GB or 256? Idk which one I should get
