I'm really temped to pick up an Android phone and this one is a candidate. I wonder if you can switch phones or SIM's or whatever on Verizon. I really have zero desire to open up a second phone line. Not going to carry two phones. Unless I buy a murse. Which I would never do.

Honestly, there's a notch on my Huawei P20 Pro. You forget about it real quick.

End of story.
That Huawei also looks pretty nice. Android manufacturers are really putting out some great stuff.

For a 529$ starting price i think it's quite good. 1000$ phone shouldn't become the normal trend. Good to see such competition.
$529 is too much for OnePlus standard. Note that the original OnePlus One started at $299, with an original design to boot. Now that was a true flagship killer.
Sure, it is one of the cheapest SD845 phones for now (at least until Xiaomi releases theirs), but it’s not worth $529 when $300 phones come with most of the same features (minus the flagship SoC).

I don't really understand the controversy about the "notch".

People want a small to non-existent bezel
They want an edge to edge screen
They would die without a front facing camera - because selfies are the life blood

If you want edge to edge screen with a small bezel, where else are you going to put the camera.
Having a notch is understandable when you are going edge to edge screen, ala the iPhone X.
Having a notch while still having a chin means you’re only copying the notch for the looks, not due to necessity. Unfortunately this is what most Android OEMs are doing. Heck, even Google Pixel 3 XL is going to have a notch and a chin as well.

Everyone comes to MacRumors for the Android reviews.
Actually, there are more Android users here than Apple users. This forum was more welcoming than most other forums out there, thus even Android users are flocking in here. Too bad some of them are bringing their hate as well.

Shame on android copy machine.
Not surprising when the OS’ own origin was based on copying Apple (remember Steve Jobs’ thermonuclear?)

OnePlus announced its new flagship phone, the OnePlus 6 on May 16, taking the opportunity to poke fun at Apple for removing the headphone jack from the iPhone while also copying a key Apple design -- the notch.

The OnePlus 6 is the latest Android phone to adopt a notch, so we thought we'd check it out and compare it to the iPhone X in our latest YouTube video.

The new OnePlus 6 features a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with minimal bezels and a small notch at the top. The notch houses the front-facing camera and ambient light sensors, but it is smaller than the notch on the iPhone X because OnePlus, like other Android manufacturers, has not been able to mimic the full TrueDepth camera system from the iPhone X as of yet.

It does, however, have facial recognition capabilities, but 2D, not 3D. 2D facial recognition is less secure than the 3D facial recognition Apple has implemented and cannot replace a fingerprint sensor as a biometric option.

Like the iPhone X, the OnePlus 6 features an all-glass body, with two vertically positioned rear cameras and a fingerprint sensor for security purposes.

Inside, the OnePlus 6 does have some impressive hardware. It uses Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 845 processor and it includes 6 to 8GB of RAM, depending on the storage space, which is 64GB at minimum. Comparatively, Apple's latest iPhone X offers just 3GB RAM, but Apple devices tend to use hardware more efficiently due to the tight integration between hardware and software.

OnePlus continues to offer a headphone jack in the OnePlus 6, but did opt to ship the smartphone alongside the $69 OnePlus Bullets Wireless headphones, the company's answer to the AirPods.

What do you think of the OnePlus 6? How does it measure up to the iPhone X? Let us know in the comments.

Can i get a link for the OnePlus 6 wallpaper in the video please?

I think it's about time Apple fanboys realize that iOS doesn't really handle ram management any better than Android. More ram helps, period. Pull up any video review comparing the iPhone x to the samsung s8,s9 or other flagship android android phones and you'll see how iOS at some point starts reloading apps from beginning whereas the phones with more ram resume the app from memory.

No, they don’t. But it’s also relevant news to see how android fares in comparison to the iPhone in resembling the notch after so many have mocked it, Now the competition is doing the same thing.
No they aren't. The only competition for Apple is Samsung who don't have a notch. These Chinese ripfoff companies don't count.

Just few days back for one for my son! Really very sleek looking device with flagship beating specs. Just can't justify spending $1250 after seeing $575 mobile beating the competition in all areas.

There are quite a few bugs(which they acknowledge unlike some makers) which requires good amount of fixed soon.

If you look up numbers for Chinese smartphone market share you will find out that Oppo-Vivo are very strong and they focus only in Chinese and a very small number of countries around them.

Perhaps maybe someone can do better research than me but for example:
https://www.idc.com/promo/smartphone-market-share/vendor
Apple: 77.3m units (globally)
Oppo: 27.3m units (4 countries)

For BBK the above number doesn't include Vivo and Oneplus.

So yes we might say Chinese knock off but if we think that the Chinese will dominate the market some day we are wrong. They already do dominate the global market (including other brands like Huwaeii, ZTE, Meizu, Xiaomi...)

Also what will we say when we see iPhone with in-display fingerprint?
https://www.theverge.com/circuitbre...gerprint-scanner-in-screen-announcement-specs

That Apple is ripping off the Chinese?

So Samsung is not the only competition...

Big assumption there. Not even sure they want to copy the 3d camera.

I guess that's because security on the device is not their priority.

It’s been apparent a lot of manufacturers have copied Apple designs, but having them copy a terrible design is next level.

If you think the notch is a nice design, you’re in denial. If an android maker implemented it first I can only imagine the amount of flaming that would exist on here.
The notch did exist on an android phone first.. Oh wait.. you still believe Apple invented everything dont you.. how cute...

Then you lack an underhand of what a global market is clearly. Also, What does Samsung have to do with the fact others smart phone manufacturers are mimicking the iPhone? Seems you overlooked the contents of the article.

I'm now beginning to think that Apple designed 'The Notch' on purpose to prove that other phone manufacturers copy them.

The article is attempting to compare One Plus and Apple which is absurd because they are not even close to being in the same price segment nor is One Plus remotely a threat to Apple. Apple has only 1 competitor. Samsung.Samsung is Android. Period. The rest are Chinese rip offs who will rip off anything Apple does.

In that market share link, Samsung has the same market share as Apple. Samsung also competes in the sam eprice segment as Apple and can be acknowledged as a competitor. Oppo,Vivo,Xiaomi are budget bargain bin brands who are Apple wannabes. The sad reality is Samsung is Android because of their market share on Android. No single manufacturer on Android has as much market share on Android as Samsung.

Why does the OnePlus 6 have to be a threat? I honestly don’t think you read the article. This article is not about competition, it’s about One Plus6 with a hands-on review with the phone itself, as a side tangent, it conveniently discusses the latest android phone to also mimic the Notch in some form. Not sure why you’re interjecting Samsung into this, when it’s not really related or relevant at this point.

It is well known that budget Chinese brands like One Plus like to imitate iPhone. It's been this way for years. Why was the point about mimicing iPhone even brought up as news?

I don’t get why they don’t just turn the display area around the notch black with white font on top. This way the notch will not stand out. However i guess it’s a marketing decision in the first place.

What annoys me far more on the X than the notch is the horrible wasted space below the keyboard. looks so ugly and not really thought through, just like the new landscape keyboard on the Plus

Probably because the Notch is the most controversial of all decisions Apple has made since the 3.5 mm Jack been deleted with the iPhone. Since it was heavily Scrutinized since its inception and even before it released, now you have other manufacturers that seemingly are following some form of the notch in their own implementation.

By using the wallpaper or background colour it gives the impression of the edge to edge look they want to go for. I at least appreciate Android allowing the option of blacking that area out if you want. I personally wouldn't do it - I like the look of the background extending fully top to bottom.

I would like the notch to be a little narrower - like the one plus 6. It'd give a bit more space for eg battery % or a couple of additional icons in the ears.

The OnePlus One was the first Android phone I tried. Unfortunately my OS (CyanoGen OS/CyanoGenMod) was for advanced users and it came with features missing. The entire experience was frustrating and made me steer clear of Android. I must say though, the phones themselves look stunning and they did do away with CyanoGen. If OxygenOS is as user friendly as they claim it is, it probably is a decent phone to have instead of an iPhone. I won't be making that switch again myself though as my experience with OnePlus was bad.

Apple doesn't sniff your data at the OS level and ship it off to the Chinese government, so there's that.
Apple does however use 3rd party servers in China to store your data on. Like the Chinese govt doesn't already have or have access to that info. Keep dreaming your data is safe with anyone.

RE: "Comparatively, Apple's latest iPhone X offers just 3GB RAM, but Apple devices tend to use hardware more efficiently due to the tight integration between hardware and software. "

Correct but Android phones with 6 or 8Gb RAM smoke any iphone in multitasking capabilities and the number of apps they are able to keep in RAM.
So basically right now iphones are better at utilizing RAM than low end Android phones that use 3Gb RAM.
Yeah quite an accomplishment.

Android itself is designed as an advertising platform, and is thus built from the ground up to be insecure in the first place, as far as leaking your personal details, browsing history, location, etc. to anyone that wants it.

100% of the reason I choose not to use Android (any more) is the horrible security, period.
[doublepost=1527711273][/doublepost]

It used to be that Android phones were cheap, almost free, but the exchange is that you agree that they track your browsing history, apps you install, location, etc., you give up some privacy for a cheap phone.

Now that Android phones are $500+, and they still leak your personal info to any advertiser that wants it, I'm wondering what the appeal is.
So much FUD

What privacy are you talking about?
Your browsing history, location are tracked on iphone as well. The same is true for wifi and Bluetooth scanning which can't be turned off on iOS like they can be turned off on Android.
Anyway I never felt or noticed from a practical standpoint like my phone is insecure. All the info I give up I do so willingly because it's worth it for what I get in return.

My phone. I got 2 updates this month for example.

This.
I think it is ok to pay a little more if you like iOS and its app store, but X is really too expensive. If I wasn't an iOS developer and need to stay on the Apple ecosystem I think I may consider switching to Android for cost reason.
If X was priced like iPhone 8 I'd be fine with that, but it is getting too expensive and I wonder how much they'll price the plus version this fall.
