Ahem, the front facing camera that pops up is NOT unique to one plus. Oppo has 3 phones over s year old now that have this as well as another Chinese brand.
FYI Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus have the same parent company BBK Electronics.

iPhone mute switch? Home Button?
You see these buttons are not motorized. But honestly I use the selfie camera maybe once a month. The motor that's more likely to fail is the vibration motor.

Yeah, its niche model. No mainstream Huawei phone uses that FaceID level tech, certainly not within $750.
First you got it wrong. Rather than admitting it, you changed the goal post. Good job!!!

The Mate 20 version is known to be fooled far more easily than FaceID. You know that.

Apple did $166B in iPhone revenue in FY2018. Yes, China sales have fallen off in the most recent 2 quarters, but the iPhone is still very strong and iPhone users are not switching. If anything, they just aren’t upgrading as often but active devices continue to grow for Apple. Trade wars do not help either. Services and wearables are growing. It’s the natural progression of a mature product to stop growing and even shrink. Apple saw this and it is why services are the new focus.

Mate 20 is not the same as Mate 20 Pro. Only the Pro has 3D face scanning. Btw the reason why Apple makes so much money is obviously they have a very good product. But they also have the highest profit margin for any phone companies. You're paying a ton of money to have the privilege of using an iPhone.

I've been an iPhone user for a few years now and an Android user before that. I'm currently using an iPhone and a Oppo R17 Pro (similar to the One Plus 6/7).

My observations are as follows :

1.) Hardware wise, the design and tech is great. They do try and put in some great value for money tech that you'll like. Mine has an in-screen finger print reader that does a better job than my wife's Samsung S10 which costs a lot more than my phone.

2.) Software is good but not great. The manufacturer masks stock android with its own version and this often has numerous bugs, many of which I found out after I began using the phone.

3.) Software support is non-existent after a point. My iPhone 5 still got updates whereas these manufacturers will stop supporting a phone a few months after the next iteration turns up(that too in a few months time). This is unfair to the user I believe.

Having said all this, if nothing works, I can at least have some comfort in the fact that I paid ~600 for a good phone which does have some flaws and imperfections but then even the iPhone is not perfect (and neither are people!)

I believe an iPhone is a good phone as well but at that pricepoint, people are bound to be more choosy and harp more on what they believe are flaws and areas for improvement.

In any case, competition is good and keeps innovation going.

Cheers!

Cheaper than the XS? It's a lot cheaper than the XR, proving just what overpriced trash that phone is.
I actually just switched from an iPhone X to a XR. it's a really superb phone. Overall, I don't really notice any difference between my XR screen and my X, and I prefer it to the Samsung screens I saw. It's got a very good camera, terrific battery life, an incredible chip, and for me the perfect size.

A lot of people just read the specs for the XR without actually checking it out, and so they just regurgitate that stuff without actually seeing or dealing with the phone.

This and the S10/S10+ really show how kind of embarrassing it has become; from innovator to regurgitator. And this is coming from an iPhone user since the 3GS.

Adding a 3rd camera, and faster processor for a 3rd straight year with no design changes and a huge notch, is not innovative. Face ID or not. You are telling me in 3 model years, into 2020 with this fall's model, they can't figure out how to shrink the notch significantly or figure something else out? (like move the earpeice into the top frame and push the sensors/camera to the middle)

It is highly disappointing to see a company like Apple not able to innovate anymore. Regurgitating designs with a faster CPU and better camera(s) each year isn't interesting anymore. It's certainly not making people buy new phones/upgrade.

And this is 60% the cost of my current base 64gb XS Max; that's sad.

Not a fan of moving parts but never take selfies so not a real issue. Nor a fan of curved screens. But may be looking elsewhere from iOS this year if the rumors hold up as they tend to do by this time of year. Apple isn't pushing tech forward anymore like others are doing.
Go get a different and more shiny toy, boy! What really do aesthetic innovations do for you? It’s a phone - what else should it do to cater for a current or anticipated NEED?

Love the no notch screen. I still wish Apple would have just put a small bezel across the top.
The pop up camera is an interesting idea. Screen looks beautiful. I'm always happy to see competition. Keep pushing Apple higher. :)

I'd expect apple to work some magic with mirrors to shrink the notch rather than do anything with moving parts. This idea would likely require them to make the top of the phone a bit thicker, like what the camera bump already is. Consumers wouldn't mind that, but apple would never do it so meh.

Right so buying a AUD 2100 phone is a need....... current or anticipated.......

Basically a Chinese phone from 2018, I would like to see a Chinese phone from 2019 from oneplus, maybe oneplus 8(or X) will have 60x zoom and other cool stuff

This phone is exactly what the market needs to stimulate some competition. It does so many things well:

- incredible screen - size, colour accuracy, resolution/sharpness and of course 90 Hz
- super fast fingerprint reader under screen
- no notch or cutout
- awesome way to hide the front camera imo
- super fast hardware
- triple camera setup
- big battery
- one of the fastest, most optimized android phones
- very fast wired charging
- water resistance
- disruptive pricing

There are some seriously weird misses like no wireless charging, and it doesn't adhere to USB-C PD standards (even Apple does). But overall... It's great for the market. I'd love to see some of these features in the next iPhone.

Realistically, we haven't had a design change since the iPhone 6/6 Plus. It's just a rehash year after year, with a few changes in camera placement and materials.

I just hate Android scrolling.

I have similar uneasy feeling with the Android scrolling, particularly in the web browsers.
However, I do recommend you install the Samsung Internet Browser Beta. Scrolling is the most fluid on Android, very similar to iOS, I think you’ll b satisfied with it.

I personally wouldn't mind a pop up camera like that tested for 300,000 cycles.
For the rare case I use my front camera this would be totally fine for me and im sure many many people for 3-5 years if you wanted to keep it that long.
I dont care for faceid much having it for two years almost now. Bring back the fingerprint reader under the glass do something like this and be done with bezels all together.

This is just the flagship OPPO phone with OnePlus branding, just like every other model OnePlus released over the years. I don't know why they even bother having these events. There is literally nothing new here.

Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus are owned by the same Chinese company. They just pretend to compete against each other.

Worse. It's motorized. So there's two things to break. Interesting idea, though.

Your brain will break more often than the motorised camera.

Look you’d have to do 150 operations per day for 5 years. Do you fancy yourself so much you’d take 150 selfies per day? LOL

anyway buy 3 of them for the cost of one iPhone XS Max if you’re worried it will break... 6 SIM cards too you could have....you’d need since you’re so popular and all those selfies you take of your pretty face the world needs to see them.

FYI Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus have the same parent company BBK Electronics.

This is not strictly true as in Xiaomi and Redmi, or Disney and ESPN so it isn't really a "parent" company. but they are closely related with ownership between each sharing. Especially from BBK's owner. They do share all their R&D, only product design and marketing are different.

Edit: Despite what Wikipedia states, I wonder who wrote it or if BBK want to be known as that.

Huawei's cameras aren't really better; at least not the end result. The lenses are more interesting, granted. The hardware is great, but the software is where they fall short.

Only apple and Google have really good smart hdr algorithms, and only those two get colour right consistently. Google has the best night mode. Apple has expanded dynamic range in video which beats all competitors right now.

You don't have to wait till the next year to get fast charging, or rely on what's in the box. I can get genuine apple lightning usb-c cables for around $5 at my local overstock auction place, and you can buy 60w usb-c chargers for $20, as well as 45w usb-c car chargers for under $20.

While on Apple front this year we will have: a. 1 more camera on the back that is very Unlikely to be better than Huawei's P30pro; b. The fastest processor Apple has ever made, again; c. Dark more in iOS; d. More and more advanced animojis; e. The most advanced and useless assistant, except for Bixby; f. Possibly a price bump; and g. Maybe, just maaaaaybe, finally a charger to fast charger in of the box; h.smaller notch ever made by Apple in an IPhone and fastest faceId ever, yet still slower than TouchId. And I will buy it...
