I actually just switched from an iPhone X to a XR. it's a really superb phone. Overall, I don't really notice any difference between my XR screen and my X

Direct sunlight????? Notice any difference?

I have loads of fones, the only fone I can read in full sunlight is the one with a Super AMOLED, I mean read perfectly clear, as if it was inside.

Any phone with AMOLED, IPS etc, unreadable in the direct sun at full brightness.

I'd expect apple to work some magic with mirrors to shrink the notch rather than do anything with moving parts. This idea would likely require them to make the top of the phone a bit thicker, like what the camera bump already is. Consumers wouldn't mind that, but apple would never do it so meh.
You shouldn’t expect, you will be disappointed. Next phone will not be much different. Apple backed themselves into a corner using FaceID. Now they are gonna look stupid again if they decided to use something else because they can’t avoid the notch. I tell you, Jony Ive ain’t half the designer without Jobs over his shoulder telling him what to do.

I’ll grant for people that are OK using Android, it looks like a nice phone for the money!
But I can’t get past the design, looks like something from the 70’s or 80’s. Does it come with a polyester suit? :)
Really? I simply don't understand what you mean by that. Can you give examples of things from the 70’s or 80’s that look like the OnePlus 7 Pro?

Its time for apple to go also with 90hz display since they already have an 120hz lcd display

And why does that improve the user experience? I must say I m quite happy with my screen on the X compared to competitive phones from other vendors, I see no difference

and the ever so tired and close-minded “It runs Android lol so no thanks” response?

So you are saying he should consider a phone that uses an operating system he doesn't like in order to be "open-minded"? Thats ridiculous. Passing on something because you don't like a key component is a perfectly normal and reasonable behavior. Lets say you hate bananas. You've tried them, you don't like them. Someone offers you a piece of banana cream pie. You decline. "But you haven't tried MY banana cream pie, maybe you'll like it!" they say. Are you being close-minded simply because you recognize that banana is not something you like? No, you are being rational. For all you know the OP has tried Android in the past and found it to be an unpleasant experience. I occasionally have to use Android devices for work. Its a terrible experience compared to iOS in my opinion. Therefore I too would pass on an Android phone. If you like Android, or if Android is not a deal breaker for you, fine, no problem. But not liking something doesn't mean you are "close-minded", just that you have a preference.

BTW its closed-minded. Unless you mean his mind is near yours in proximity.

This proves Apple has the wrong approach. Apple’s so-called approach is to make the iPhone a “tool.” No one considers a phone a tool. No one is using an iPhone for Music Memos, Clips, iMovie, GarageBand, Reminders, etc. Imram Chaundry was a fool for conceiving of the iPhone as a bunch of widgets apps for productivity. No one cares about 3D Touch, FaceID. Why do I have a Stocks app on my phone? No one follows stocks. Useless.

Name a SINGLE thing that 3D Touch is good for. ONE thing. 3D Touch is useful if you’re using your iPhone as a utility device. But no one does. For chrissakes, Apple packs FORTY apps. Plus a half-dozen more in the App Store. FORTY apps.

What people want is novelty. The cool factor. Curved edges. We don’t CARE about utility. We want something to pass the boredom. We want to game, watch YouTube/Twitch, listen to music. We want a bezel-free display at the expense of FaceID because it’s cool!
No - you want it. Not me surly not everyone. I want a little lower price point - maybe everyone does.

At least in my case, I'd never use it, so it wouldn't break

the "moving parts paradigm" is just an atempt of hate by many ifollowers here. miniature electric parts like this cam are use everywhere around for years.
as you iguys buy an new iphone EVERY YEAR - why worrying about a camera you hardly ever use!

Yeah, and Samsung tested the Fold 200,000 times too.

it was my first thought too, although its unfair because we dont know how they have really tested!

I've been an iPhone user for a few years now and an Android user before that. I'm currently using an iPhone and a Oppo R17 Pro (similar to the One Plus 6/7).

My observations are as follows :

1.) Hardware wise, the design and tech is great. They do try and put in some great value for money tech that you'll like. Mine has an in-screen finger print reader that does a better job than my wife's Samsung S10 which costs a lot more than my phone.

2.) Software is good but not great. The manufacturer masks stock android with its own version and this often has numerous bugs, many of which I found out after I began using the phone.

3.) Software support is non-existent after a point. My iPhone 5 still got updates whereas these manufacturers will stop supporting a phone a few months after the next iteration turns up(that too in a few months time). This is unfair to the user I believe.

Having said all this, if nothing works, I can at least have some comfort in the fact that I paid ~600 for a good phone which does have some flaws and imperfections but then even the iPhone is not perfect (and neither are people!)

I believe an iPhone is a good phone as well but at that pricepoint, people are bound to be more choosy and harp more on what they believe are flaws and areas for improvement.

In any case, competition is good and keeps innovation going.

Cheers!
You are correct but in terms of software in general(support, updates) One Plus is much much better than Oppo.
You can be sure that OnePlus 7 Pro will be one of the first phones to receive Android Q.

That pop up crap is going to break. Thats obvious. People give  crap for touch disease & audio IC disease. This is a product that should boycotted, because of its stupidity. Function over form, for what, a little less bezel. Bezels wont suddenly make your cameras stop working. If you hate notches, get an iPhone 7 or 8. If you want mostly edge to edge , get an iPhone XR, or X. Do not get this. If you like Droids, get a Samsung or Pixel.

your post is quite sad!
its so wrong in every aspect!

Well, moving parts can be durable, look at the mute switch on the iPhone. Never broke on mine iPhones at all. And when i was damn young I had many phones with many many moving parts and well, they were durable as hell, even Nokia 3250 which was...actually a two piece phone and it was rock solid.
I had a Nokia 7650 with a sliding back, never broke, amazing handset for its time, first Symbian camera phone by Nokia I believe. I also had a Sony Ericsson S700i and that had a swivel front and shutters over the lens on the back and that didn't break either.

You ever use the ipad pro with the 120hz? the text while scrolling is so more clear, instead of a blur

It seems like people just forgot how durable phones can be. All phones are now solid and all but it doesn’t mean moving parts are bad at all. We just got used to phones without them.

I actually think it looks really cool but the article mentions 'smooth scrolling', I just hate Android scrolling. I actually think this phone presents a strong anti-iPhone case.

Lack of wireless charging also blows though
I think they pass wireless charging and put all their efforts to making the fastest charging phone. I mean wireless charging means more internal parts, higher price, less space, so that compared to fastest charging I think they ruled out wireless charging imo.

Great phone, should certainly have some effect on the ever-rising prices of smartphones.

To me, the notch is as much of a compromise as the pop-up camera or Samsungs camera-hole-in-screen. The future is a display with built-in camera, like having the built-in fingerprint scanner.

Not everyone is a teenage girl "Instagram model" and uses a selfie camera or cares about it for the few times they will use it in the phone's lifetime. Despite what out social media obsessed culture wants you to believe that everyone is obsessed with taking photos and showing their lives off on the internet.

If you dont use it then it can't really break. But you cannot put away a camera bump or notch out of sight.

Popup camera>notch any day for me for the maybe 10 times I will ever use the front camera in a year vs hundreds of times a day looking at the display
If I bought that phone my reliability problem would probably be the mechanical gears locking themselves for lack of use...

Calling that bezel-free is like calling beer alcohol-free, because there’s only 5% alcohol. What’s with the fake advertizing everywhere?

I like the design, very "clean". Perfect for people who never take selfies and think face recognition using a camera is insecure.

However, regardless of how many cycles the pop-up camera is tested for, this camera is not rated for water resistance (so I assume not well sealed). So, for a device that will mostly go in and out of your pocket many times a day, I predict within a few months people will start complaining of a stuck camera due to lint buildup within the mechanism.

oneplus is annoying as hell. hate the company.
You have all the right to not like a company but could you share with us the reason(s) why? I mean seriously, I would like to know.

Your troll comment lacks a /s marker or at least a smiley.

When some company shows the phone without the notch and with proper Face ID then you can go mental here. Making a phone with no notch is trivial if there is no Face ID. OnePlus does what all the so-called competition does, it creates a buzz in one area to move attention from other more important areas and fools buy it.

Seriously? Those are the two main things you took away from this? A moving part and the ever so tired and close-minded “It runs Android lol so no thanks” response?

What about it having an actual full screen with no hideous notch with a 90Hz refresh rate, 6-12 gigs of RAM, and being touted as the fastest Android phone from various reviewers... all at a low $650 price point?
Who cares, it runs Android. Like the refresh rate on a tiny screen or the RAM matters to anyone besides tech reviewers. The headphone jack matters than those things, and it doesn't have one, so that's a non-starter for me, plus the company is annoying.

They had a shill-to-your-friends marketing strategy that worked. For a while, you had to be "invited" to buy a OnePlus phone, and by buying one you'd be given a few invites for friends that you were somehow incentivized to use. I had so many people trying to get me to buy one that I decided never to even consider it.
