That main infotainment screen looks so incredibly dated. Not sure why Volvo is continuing to roll that out.
Maybe it's intentional to appeal to their existing client base who tend to be older (Every time i've been in for a service i'm the youngest Volvo driver by about 20 years 🤣).

There does look like some strange changes to this new version but to be honest when i'm driving I do everything through Siri Voice Control and just use the screen for maps.

I never use the driver display for built in satnav/maps only the centre console as I use Waze. It would be amazing if Waze worked dual screen!

Not bad, but it's missing the a/c recirculate button. For when you're stuck in traffic or have to stay behind a truck on a mountain road.
That’s especially annoying on my Volvo because the screen to activate recirc has lag and takes about 2 seconds to appear after you tap the icon.

I've got a 2023 XC60 Recharge Ultimate. This "upgrade" is kinda nice, but the lack of next turn and the lack of the HUD integration kinda sucks. OTOH, Google Maps doesn't show you ETA anywhere but the main screen.

I will say this - of all the built-in navigations that I've used the Google Maps in Volvo is actually useable. I mean it's everything you expect Google Maps to do. As a bonus it integrates with the drivetrain to optimize hybrid battery usage, which is great. On a long-ish trip I actually see better MPGs with Google Maps than without.

Love it. A couple wonky things with the MMI that hopefully a software update will fix down the road, but everything is well thought out, great ride, the capacity of a crossover with the handling of a sporty sedan. I'm heavily anti-SUV FWIW.

Thanks for getting back to me. Cool!

I've always wanted an A6 - we have the A3 sportback at the moment - still going strong after 11 years, but it's getting a little small for our family now. Keep checking Audi each year. Sometimes new models feel better, sometimes they take things away that I used to like. Not 100% sold on all the screens everywhere approach (even though it can be upgraded through software) since I prefer tactile feedback - switching something while keeping my eyes on the road.

It'll look good when they get it on a car with a decent interior. The screen setup on this Volvo is terrible. Yuck. I'd love it in my current car. It would look amazing.

The screen looks dated but one thing Volvo can’t be criticised for is the quality of their interiors. They have some of the best car interiors in the automotive industry. Compare them to something cheap like in a Tesla for example and it is night and day.

You just described Blackberry in 2005.
That's exactly how I feel whenever I go to a car lot and look at new cars. Doesn't matter if it's Toyota, or Ferrari, combustable, hybrid or EV. I glance inside the glass, see the archaic layout and think man... it's like a Blackberry. And that's just the look of them. If we're getting into the driving aspect, the gap between Tesla and the second-closest EV manufacturer, it's not even close.

Having said that, I do look forward to the day when the rest of the field finally catches Tesla. It'll be a good day for all of us.

The screens have tactile feedback, similar to iphone's taptic engine, though you obviously can't feel blindly for controls. BUT you can control almost everything via voice, which works pretty well.

Yes, the inbuilt system is much better. But to be honest, unless one drives specifically to a charging stop, say about 20 minutes away from one's current location, the lack of satnav induced battery preconditioning really does not make a material difference.

If you are on a journey doing motorway speeds, and you take the battery from say 80% to 20% when you look for a charge, it is ready to take it, preconditioning or not, you'll get the fastest speeds possible.

The state of charge has way more effect; just look at it in the case where you have to wait as there is a queue. So you've preconditioned with a 15-minute drive. But then you have a 10-minute wait at a very busy station. If your SOC is around 20% you still get the maximum speeds. ;)

In my opinion, people put far too much importance to preconditioning and overthink it; just drive it and it will be fine.

As a side note, on the PHEVs they do have some sort of "optimization feature" where they're supposed to use Maps to get the best MPGs out of the hybrid system. And it does seem to work.

Wired connection only?!! Please finish making your car Apple.

These car manufacturing executives are just clueless.

seriously, the wireless CarPlay is so great I would never want to go back to wired

I haven't gotten this. My wireless CarPlay has been an experience of one glitch after another. I much prefer the predictability of a wired connection.

My '23 BMW X1 also has the ability to add Apple Maps to the instrument cluster, as well as showing the music app, and being able to scroll through the phone book or playlist in the heads up display. Also gives turn by turn directions through the HUD, and "Hey Siri" works without pressing a button. And wireless CarPlay is standard. I do wish they'd support 3rd party apps like Google Maps and Waze being shown in the instrument cluster though, as sometimes those are more accurate for my area.

BMW's CarPlay fu is the strongest.
