20th Anniversary Mac

Man I really wish we had a Mac made spefically for the 20th Anniversary of the Mac.....but I think that Apple cannot do it, without the aftermarket guys making more money than they should.

What I mean is the "20th Anniversary Mac" is already discontinued. A nice model indeed. Was it titled that way because of Apple's 20th Anniversary as a company?? Oh well glad Apple is this far along!! other than Linux emerging in corporations, I think I see another golden age of Apple beginning in the next 2-3 quarters~~

grabs of two frames of the "1984" video at 200%
Apple modified the date from 24 to 26 and the year from 84 to 04!
Wait for 26!!!
I can't believe no one's mentioned this yet!

I feel the need to insert maybe a little more sarcasm into this reply but.. jeez... you failed to read all of this thread, not to mention the countless other threads on this subject.

Bring it on!

Woohoo! Oh, man, I can't wait! I knew Apple wouldn't let us down! Geez, I'm about to pee my pants!

(Whadya think -- do I need to get out more?)

I agree with arn...

there is a 0 below and to the left of the 8
the 0 does not have a crossbar there, so why would it above. this is clearly still an eight. NOT SAYING this means that they won't release something neat tomorrow, just that the video is the same. I sure as hell hope they release something sweet!

Apple insider posts same info!

Ops, also AppleInsider posts an article on the 1984 ad!
I can't see the article but the title confirms that my grabs were good!
Can't wait for tomorrow (well, today 'cause I live in Italy).

You might be right, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. You grabbed a frame that looks like 04. Other frames look like 84.

Apple usually makes announcements by 9 am Pacific Standard Time, so lets see that would be...14hours from now, so um if its almost 3 a.m. there now...5pm I think. Bah thinking on a Sunday is not a good idea.

Whatever, looking forward to my third computer: this, my second, a G3. My first... a ZX81. Can anyone beat an 18 year gap? Never owned a Windows machine though :)

ZX81 forever! Back then, I couldn't afford an Apple II, so I saved up for that little $100 wonder and even spashed out for the $50 16KB RAM pack. Still works - bless its little CPU.

1981 ZX81
1982 Spectrum
1985 Sinclair QL
1991 Mac LC
1994 Mac LC475
1997 Powerbook 1400
2000 Pismo
2004 (26/1) G5 Dual 2.6 despatched from Cork, Ireland to me? Here's hoping.

The first machine I had the priveledge of programming was a Digital 'Mini Computer' in 1974 at school. The size of a large suitcase, some switches on the front, ran BASIC, had to be booted with a paper tape, it was amazing!

Never dreamt of video, sound, colour, internet etc then... a few lines of BASIC was enough.

I just noticed a new link to some Pixar quicktime preview on Apple's front page. Watched the thing, totally boring IMHO. Sure, Steve Jobs & Pixar, but come on. This is pretty much the lamest and least important item I've ever seen on Apple's front page.

Why am I mentioning this in this thread? Because a small part of me hopes this might only be a temporary placeholder for something to be announced soon... I know it's a faint hope, but let's keep dreamin' here for a sec.

Hmmm. That's a bit of a stretch, even for me, the master of going off-topic. :) Anyway, it's just a teaser from a short that Pixar is working on to open for "The Incredibles" in November. It is an awfully lame clip, and it's hard to believe Apple would tie up space on their front page with it.

Speaking of tying up space, if anybody wants to comment on "Boundin'", maybe take it to the "Community Discussion" forum?

The mac - "a macro-mutational leap"

Apologies if others have already cited this, but it's a great article.

richard Dawkins - the Guardian UK

And it describes the birth of the Macintosh as "a macro-muational leap". This by the eminent scientist and influential author of The Selfish Gene. (still a great and important book, that all would enjoy).

And Happy Birthday to the wonderful Mac.

:)

Agreed -- that's a great article. Also a good reminder of how revolutionary the Mac really was, and not just for its UI.

On the contrary, I think true777 has a very good point. Last year, Apple had a pretty lame page and it was just there for a little while- much shorter than normal. I can't remember what replaced it. Anyway, I think it's a good point.
