I had some doubts about the gold after seeing it in the Apple Store. However, under more normal lighting (I think that the Store lighting is very warm), it looks fantastic. In the Apple Store, the gold was a little obnoxious.

And the black and gold color combination is perfect. My iPad is Space Grey because I wanted the black bezel, and I do sometimes regret the white bezel on the 6+. I really, really hope that they end up switching the iPhone to a black/gold combination as that would look spectacular. (I'm half Chinese, the gold lust is probably genetic.)

I'm thinking about getting one but I can't decide on a color. All my iOS stuff is gold, so I kinda would prefer to match. But the space grey looks good to me because it really makes the screen pop. I like the gold, when it's closed, but for some reason, when it's open it looks too yellow, just like what you're describing. I know the lighting sucks and contributes to that. So it's good to hear how you feel. But I haven't seen many pics even that prove otherwise. So I'm not sure.

Get the Space Grey you won't regret it!! Looks way better then the gold in my opinion. The longer I use it the better it looks, seems to be constantly changing colors depending on the angle you are viewing it from. Seems to range from a slightly dark silver to almost completely black.

Very pleased with my gold. It's subtle, and actually look very silver in the right light.

I went to the store a few weeks ago and stared at gold/spage grey iPads to get an idea of the color on this scale of machine. That was pretty accurate, as the MacBook is so iPad-like in terms of size.

Overall, gold is warmer than silver, and gives a nice contrast against black keys/display.

Exceedingly happy with the space gray. Looks fantastic next to my space gray iPad Mini and iPhone, as well as my silver notebooks for that matter.

Got my gold in the mail today from Best Buy, and I am loving it. It definitely has a warmth, but with a silver tone in a lot of light.

I really want the space gray... I just need a reason that I need to buy one ;)

Be careful, if you have the money available it will be quite easy to buy one! :)

I think the beauty of these devices is going to be the deciding factor in a lot of sales.

I agree!

I think too many people hear the word "GOLD" and think bright flashy or shiny type color but it's not that way at all. Of course color is a personal choice so whatever makes you happy is the best. :)

Similar to gold iPhone and iPad options; it's a very muted gold/silver tone (in a good way) that looks professional, clean and just different enough to stand out from black or silver laptops.

No regrets with my gold choice here.

I think the gold is neat - actually, it's the only one I've seen in person. BUT, I see some hints of pink in it - sort of like a rose gold, but soft. I think it's neat, but I also think that will wear off. Just my opinion. My space gray is on its way.

My wife has the Gold, it is definitely a Rose / Pink tone - Very feminine, nice to see females joining in the forums too! Mine is another month away unfortunately...

There's another reference e 'gold' being feminine. That's one reason I still have my doubts about it being right for me. Too flashy!

I'm liking is less now after seeing many pictures of it in the wild. Some do look good but others not. Argh!

Tomorrow I'm finally going into my local Apple Store to compare the colors. I will either cancel my 1.3GHz / 512GB gold or 1.3GHz / 512 GB space gray order tomorrow.

(Unless the decision is too close to call...hehe)

This is not my world I only live in it. For business meetings etc. I would not be drwaing attention to myself with a Gold computer from anyone. Remember people like us geeks posting on Macrumors make up about .00001% of the population. Not a meeting I attend where almost everyone has a company issued $400.00 plastic 15" 8LB computer - I would not show up with a gleaming gold piece of kit.

Also, Apple (then others) created Gold options for the China market where Gold is god like for all. Point of fact, having recently gotten married White gold or Platinum has been the "in" fashion in the US for a number of years. Leave the Gold for the wanna be "Playas" who also prefer 22" Gold rims on there cars and the like.

Go Gray if you want cool professional guys come on!

Update: I tired to photograph the Gold rMB at a BB tonight it reminds me of those $29.00 "Gold" watches you see at the drugstore.

One more thing. I spent my typing class in high school in the parking lot (I suck at typing) I played with that rMB for a while today and it is perfect for my style typing.

I'm sorry, but I don't completely understand what you are trying to say. Should I avoid buying gold even if I like it? I will use my computer at work every day for years.

You should buy what you like, not what other posters like or believe you should like! :)

I was originally planning to buy silver because I am using the rMB mostly in a professional context. I got a gold one because it was the only one that Best Buy had. I used it all last week and was wondering whether i'd get $h!t from people in meetings - these are people I've worked with for 30 years and there is little hesitation to give each other good-natured gibes. Nothing heard, no one noticed...fwiw.

You should have gone space gray.

As I stated (but it never matters) "not my world I'm just living in it" Enjoy your GOLD computer. Also Gold is popular out of the gate among the first (relatively small) wave of rMB buyers because, well, it will stand out. May not hold up as well for resale. YMWV

Why? I'm getting no ribbing for being Goldfinger. Space gray would actually be my third choice. It's possible that people are used to seeing silver, gold and space gray iPhones and iPads and color doesn't really register at this point - just a theory.

don't be absurd about business context. This computer is razor thin, having it will be more of a statement than the color you choose.

I brought my computer to two coffee shops yesterday, nobody stopped to say anything about my machine or did a long gaze/double take, etc.

perhaps I'm invisible man, but I don't think so to that extent..

I was sort of concerned that the gold would signal "NEW rMB, LOTSA $$$, LOOK AT ME!" ... but no, apparently not. Could it possibly be that only a tiny number of technogeeks are following the minutia closely???

If you get a scratch on the gold or space grey MB does the scratch look silver ?? In other words a scratchs on the silver MB is less visible (or even invisible) ??

Presumably if you scratch the SG or gold you may go down to the unfinished aluminum, so, yes. Scratches on the silver are not invisible, though - just less visible.

Canceling my order:

I went in and saw the computers in person today. I've now decided to cancel my order for the gold color. I liked the space gray better. Alas, my order for the 1.3GHz space gray version won't arrive until near the end of May (two weeks later than the gold 1.3GHz would come).

Too bad I couldn't trade with someone who ordered space gray and wants gold. :)

I wait with great appreciation.

I would have been perfectly happy with gold. However, I was more impressed with the space gray. It's worth the extra wait to get the color I really want.

Now I question if the 1.3GHz version is worth the wait.
