To me, it seems like you're just taking a page out of the tired old PC market playbook, where they need to constantly update to pitch the latest and greatest (even if it's not actually great) hardware specs, because people think that gaining that extra ~13% of speed or power or whatever will transform your ability to get work done.
What the hell do I recommend to a college student looking to buy a Mac? Hard to recommend a 3 year old macbook pro...
I think you need to quantify that line of reasoning, because either you're full of crap, or smoking something really good...It so happens that I'm a "tech advisor" for my family and many of my friends. I can't even count how many people over the years, directly or indirectly, because of my recommendations have switched to Macs, iPhones, iPads. Over the past ~year I have firmly stopped recommending anything from Apple. And now I think I'll start to advise to stay away. Truly hate the shameless ripping off and general dishonesty. Apple in my eyes has turned into a greasy used car salesmen, trying to sell you years old crap for the highest possible price.
All the bloody whiners in here makes me LOL!!! Have all of you forgotten what "WWDC" stands for? World Wide DEVELOPERS Conference! This is not, and never has been, an event to launch hardware!
Or they are working on it and don't want to rush out a product line before it's finished. Patience is going to be a virtue here as frustrating as it is, id rather have a new Macbook Pro announced when ready than have one rushed out.
And yet the core of WWDC is SOFTWARE, which is what Apple has now gone back to... Hardware announcements are now separate events. Get YOUR facts right. Please, get your facts right: hardware has been announced at WWDC in prior years, just not every year.
For example,
2012 - announced new models of the MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro including one with Retina Display.
2013, Mac Pro was announced, as well as Macbook Pro and Airports.
And yet the core of WWDC is SOFTWARE, which is what Apple has now gone back to... Hardware announcements are now separate events. Get YOUR facts right.

Probably, but hopefully the recent 40% Mac sales decreases got their attention. Apple might be able attribute some of the decrease to general PC market shrinkage but they also know their Mac customer base isn't upgrading in many cases because Apple has fewer compelling Macs.Wow, that company used to care about computers, now it seems like Mac is an absolute afterthought...
A "hobby" to put it in Cook terms
This is news to you? Steve Jobs removed "computers" from Apple's name for a reason. He himself spoke about a post PC era.
If I could run MacOS on any machine natively like an Alienware for example that would be the best for these days. I can then have both a gaming Windows machine and a powerful "Mac". Why can't this be possible!!!!!!

It is not economically viable to buy an over priced iPhone these days.
Apple doesn't allow it but I heard of people doing this. I heard there are problems with software updates but not sure if that is still an issue. It would be nice to have a choice: Powerful Mac specs for less that you build based on technology available today or get something nice and fancy looking from Apple with older specs, or just wait for Apple to release a Mac that you want.
I'm a developer. I would like some new hardware. If you've managed to drag yourself through the keynote you would notice that Tim Cook emphasized how the WWDC was about giving the best tools to the developers. Well, one of my tools is my computer. Perhaps the most important.
How would you respond if they release bt 4.1 and broad well chip for 4000 dollars? Some of these specs don't make sense. None the less, I'm glad Apple didn't refresh the Macbook Pro because of a 400 day cycle. Sometimes hardware availability dictates release times. With that being said, there are a lot of new technologies entering mass production that would make for a HUGE upgrade to the Macbook Pro in the coming months...
1. Kabylake (entering mass production). It would be lame for Apple to jump on Skylake at this point
2. Samsung NVMe SSD. This would offer a a lot more room to make battery larger or chasis smaller.
3. Bluetooth 5 hardware. Double the speed, 4x the range - enough said.
4. AMD Polaris Graphics Card - As article states.
5. 5G cellular data chipsets - wildcard.
