I recently went to a T-Mobile store and I have to say ....I really liked the XR. A lot more than expected. Really liked how lightweight it felt compared to the Max and am really attracted to the battery life. Held both the Max and XR side by side and didn’t see much of a difference. Yes, the colors are richer and the blacks are deeper, but it doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Since the lower resolution doesn’t affect me, don’t use 3D Touch ever, don’t use optical zoom for photos, and don’t need the extra water resistance since I’m already very careful with my products, I’m just wondering if the XR would be a better fit for me?

I gave my small XS to the wife and got a blue 128gb XR.

Battery life is number one on my priority list.

Couldn’t be more satisfied with my decision. XR is an awesome phone.

Great battery, great screen for my eyes, screen size is perfect, wider portrait mode for me is great and the colors are fun.

Both XS and XR are awesome phones. There is no wrong choice. Just depends on what your priorities are.

If all that you lose doesn’t bother you then yes you are better off with the XR.

I finally had a chance to go to a store and play with all 3 models, and I knew immediately that the XR is going to sell a lot more units to the general public non-apple-freaks than the other models. The XR just picking it up and casually playing with looks practically identical to the XS in person- I can see your average person walking in and saying "why is this one $250 more" and having to be educated on the internal differences, or else they wont know and just ask for the XR. And then looking at the max and saying "whoa look at the price of that one, for a little bit larger screen? I'll get the XR that's ok". That's exactly how it's going to play out for a lot of people who aren't that picky about features.

Personally for me, I was surprised by how much the phones were still trying to go for that flat wax paper-like look on the display, almost like a color e-reader or something. I prefer the glossy look of the samsungs but that is me.

Yes you are correct. The XR is for people on a budget who want a good iphone. The max is for people that money is no object and just want that little more perfection.

Most who purchase the Max, likely wouldn’t have a reason to switch to the XR, unless they simply regretted the cost of the Max or were possibly affected by Pulse-width-modulation, but the Max has everything the XR does and more.

I pretty much agree, but there is one thing that the Max doesn't have that the XR does...
a wide angle portrait mode for people.
In fact, from several photographer you tubers it's been shown that the XR does a better job in portrait mode on people than the XS and X phones.

That's not to say that Apple can't intro the wide angle portrait mode to the XS series at any point this year or next, but I doubt they will. They could do it now if they really wanted to, but it will probably be a feature on next year's phone. We all know how Apple works...

Lol seriously. You seriously think the XR only for those who are on a budget. That’s pretty ignorant. I had the Max. Sold it and got the XR. Also had the LG V40, Note 9, One Plus 6T , Pixel 3XL, Razer Phone 2 and Blackberry Keytwo.

Money is not always the decision to buy something. Some people go by features and what they will use or what they desire. Some may get the XR because they simply like the color. Some may get it for battery life. And yes some may get it to save money.

Personally I got the XR because I don’t see a big difference in the screens (my eyes aren’t the best) battery life is superior on the XR in how I use the phone And the phone is a nice size.

But you cannot say the XR is for those on a budget. For some yes probably. But for a ton of people it’s just a preference.

Well said.

So tired of this elitist attitude towards the XR. Yeah it costs less. So what. Not everyone is motivated to buy something because it costs less. In the grand scheme of things most people with a shred of common sense are not going to let $10 or less a month motivate their decision. I can afford the Max. I just didn't feel the need to get one. The OLED screen doesn't impress me. The single lens shooter works just fine. It worked great on my Pixel 2 XL. I never used 3D touch on my 7+. On top of that the XR felt the best in my hand out of the three. So why just because I can afford an XS or Max should I get one if it doesn't fit my needs?? Has zero to do with money. Yeah I'm sure there are many people that will see all three phones and go for the cheapest. Doesn't mean they can't afford the higher priced phones. They just don't feel the need to spend the extra money.

I think the cost of the XS is what most people are concern about.
What about getting the Max on Swappa? Mint condition 256gb is only around $1100
To me it’s a no brainer to go for XS once the cost is on par with XR
