Has Anyone Tried Apple Pay Yet?

Walgreens was a breeze tap, Touch ID, press ok and I was out the door.

Tried it at whataburger and it didn't work, but neither did the card scanner the nfc terminal was attached to so pretty sure that is just a hardware issue on their part.

I've noticed that if you removed the cards you added to apple pay and the re-add the card you will need to do a verification.

Has Anyone Tried Apple Pay Yet?

Not right now. NFCU person here and neither of my cards are supported right now. Neither is Simple

They are looking at a sometime in November. Currently I'm with Eglin FCU which is a small local branch. Navy Federal has a few branches here so I may swap over by the end of November.

I used my chase debit card on file with Apple to set up apple pay. I don't remember getting a Chase verification code but I have been using so many codes to get my Macbook pro to connect with my iPhone 6 plus today for SMS forwarding, I simply forgot if I got a code.

Regardless, I went to McDonalds drive through to use Apple Pay and the manager had no idea what I was saying. I instructed her to present to me the credit card reader and I touched my home button to activate my fingerprint and the transaction went though!

Cool!

Same thing at a gas station. I used the "mastercard nearby" app to find a gas station that accepted NFC... went inside, and simply asked the clerk if they accepted contactless / wireless payments. She literally said, "What are you talking about?". I proceeded to tell her that I was going to pay with CC, at which point in time the card reader lit up with my total, held my phone near it with my finger on the touch ID, and done. Worked wonderfully.

Still have to take something out of your pocket.

I'm waiting for the day the NFC machine draws blood to match my identity and then auto synchronizes with my brain chip that stores my credit card.

Oh, it will have lasers too.

How dare you!

My phone!?! Out of my pocket!?!?!?! Hell noooooooooo!!

Don't you read all the factual posts here??? The phone bends in your pocket!!!!!

;)

It worked great. I actually ate more just to use it again.

Nope because none of my banks are compatible yet.

I assume they're in the '500' list due for sometime later this year/early next year.

Meh, :apple:Pay is not *that* convenient anyway just yet considering not too many people have NFC enabled checkouts (from experience with Google Wallet). But, since it's Apple we're talking about here I have no doubt I'll see a lot more NFC checkouts soon (Whole Foods yesterday have banners next to the card reader advertising it's compatible with :apple:Pay)

I don't mind the wait because I'll have it on my :apple:Watch by then (really handy) and hopefully there will be a lot more readers by then anyway.

In the mean time, Android users are going to have a field day considering the NFC checkouts will work with Google Wallet too (and my MasterCard NFC credit card!)

It's not only about convenience, but the security of not having card information floating.

Didn't work at Walgreens. Didn't recognize it - nothing. Staff never heard of Apple Pay and looked at me like I was nuts. :(

I just bought a Quarter Pounder at McDonald's and it worked flawlessly. I then went to Walgreens for a Red Bull and Snickers but I was still required to enter my PIN number, not very convenient :-/

Was this in the middle of nowhere? XD

Actually really surprising since Walgreens was heavily advertised as a partner upon Apple Pay's announcement.

It didn't work. If you don't have an NFC SIM card it will not work !
That's not how Apple Pay works. *facepalm*. Mobile payments and NFC have nothing to do with the SIM card. The NFC antenna is built into the phone. That's why the iPhone 5S doesn't support in store Apple Pay.

You do not, repeat do not need an NFC SIM card. If your phone has a built in NFC chip, like the iPhone 6, you do not, repeat do not need and NFC sim chip. Certain Android devices do not have an NFC chip built into the phone and they require such a chip.

----------

Are your sure that a 4 yearold sim card will work with apple pay cause I had no luck today at 2 different places. Will give it another try tomorrow :)

If you have a 4 year old sim, then you don't have a nanosim. The 5 was the first phone to have a nanosim, and that was 2 years ago.

You are correct it was from 2 years ago

Nope. I tried it at the prescription counter and the main counter.
I saw nothing on the store's screen telling me anything nor my phone. Nothing was happening so I used my credit card.

Halft tempted to go back and try again. But what I'm bothered about is that - unless I'm doing something wrong - I have to have to use my passcode to unlock my phone if apple pay is in the phone? Every time I try to turn off passcode lock, it warns me it's going to delete my passbook credit card. If I have to unlock my phone everytime I use it, I won't use Apple Pay

You have to have both fingerprint and passcode activated. You don't need to use passcode. All you need to do is make sure phone is close to NFC reader, it will automatically wake phone, and you use your fingerprint to purchase. If the phone did not wake, then their NFC reader is not working.

Just used it again. This time at CVS. The lady was like "what did you just do?" I said "I paid with my phone." She said "well thats just... weird. I've never seen that"

Some clarity on the whole "NFC SIM" thing... which is a big misnomer...

The "secure element" is a cryptographic chip that stores secure application code/data on the device. Apple refers to this more broadly as a "secure enclave", of which Touch ID is a key part of how information stored there is secured.

Early Android phones used the "secure element" -- this was tied to the device and if you screwed up your secure element flashing ROMs, your device could never use it again and you would need a new device to use mobile payments.

Later Android phones, and in particular those that were compatible with Softcard/ISIS moved the secure element onto the SIM. The SIM was paired with the device, and the data encrypted from the crypto set on the SIM. Removing the SIM and inserting it in a new device would basically force you to create a new secure database on the device. NFC always worked and existed on modern Android phones, but transactions over NFC required this secure SIM to perform transactions.

Apple's secure enclave is meant to do effectively the same as the secure element SIM, and negates the need for this special SIM. So, no you don't need any special SIM. I have a secure element SIM inserted in my iPhone 6+ right now, and it continues to operate as a regular SIM card.

Don't be, it takes time for the issuing banks/credit unions to get their systems to work with tokenization
It'll up and running shortly...Navy Fed already said November. USAA should be ready for Apple Pay around the same time

I know, I've just been excited about this since they announced Passbook how many years ago. Just figured USAA would be on board on launch day, especially since they were advertising on their homepage about it.
