I think personally that people are a little to concerned with the beauty of their products.

I agree, but for what Apple charges people, people should expect it to be in perfect cosmestic condition. Apple sells itself largely on how pretty their machines are. Well then they better make them that way and have better QC standards.

OP get one that is 100% perfect or get your money back. You didn't do anything wrong.

Getting a new laptop with scratches is unacceptable, and the manager's attitude is TOTALLY unacceptable.

Not really, 3 open computers likely would kick in a stop loss at most stores.

The manager may honestly be looking at the machines an seeing nothing wrong.

At some point it'll happen, they will wake up and say we cannot please this customer at all. And proceed to completely piss the customer off with their next move.

or maybe it all boils down to peoples' standards and how high or low they really are.

to some people, "good enough" might be just that, good enough. to me, I work very hard for my money and I like to reward myself by purchasing nice things. therefore, I believe in never settling for "just good enough". I try to buy the best and I believe in getting the best when it comes to quality and value.

buying a $1500 laptop that has scratches (whether they be light or deep) is anything but value, no matter what one's opinion is.

I agree about the quality lacking. I've had 4 laptops. 3 had dead pixels and 1 had 2 scratches more then half an inch long. The 3 with dead pixels also had scratches and a few dents or nicks.

Unbelievable for the money. That said I owned 3 airs and all were perfect (aluminum and screen). Maybe it's something with the new process?

I think it all depends on the product. I personally don't think the latest MacBooks are that bad but all of these other problems with bad graphics cards in MacBook Pros and stuff is horrible.

The point is that they shouldn't have to open up 3 computers in the first place. One of them should be perfect.

We are not talking about a few dollar item here. Any computer, I don't care who makes it, it should be flawless I have always bought Dell computers for work and all I have bought have been perfect no dents scratches etc, and these computers are the cheapest crap around 400-500 bucks. I since have switched over to mac :apple:, and I expect no less then perfect for the money we spend. I would raise hell also, Just my 2 cents..

You're an idiot. Scratches on a brand new product from a company that heavily pushes aesthetics is unacceptable.

Do a search, there has to be 100 posts exactly like this one. "I picked up my macbook/iphone/imac/apple sticker and it had a scratch/smudge/stuck pixel/bad juju and the stupid manager couldn't see it using the 20X loop I carry around my neck on a chain to inspect all my new stuff".

It's a portable computer. It's going to have a scratch on it within 72 hrs of using it. It was made by people, not cherubs in heaven. If you look hard enough at any consumer product you will find a flaw. You don't get to open-box 10 macbooks and pick the one that speaks to you. In all likelihood it was a very minor cosmetic defect or the manager would have simply replaced it without an issue. These people aren't out to screw you. The likelihood of this guy getting three truly defective MBs in a row is so remote as to totally undermine his credibility.

People need to stop attacking the OP and telling him he's being a jerk. He payed full price for this machine and it's unacceptable for it to have even the slightest scratch out of the box. I had to bring three MBP's back to the store due to dented lids. Their quality control stinks and I refuse to pay that kind of money for a product that is less than perfect when I take it out of the box. It's people like the ones who are dissing the op who allow this poor quality control to continue. If everyone who got a scratched or dented product, or anyone who got a book that had a loose battery cover/warped lid returned the product and refused to accept the crap that apple is trying to pawn off then they'd have to rethink their poor quality.

When you go back in be armed with the phone number of your local Better Business Bureau. You will be amazed at what threatening to call them will do. I got a new car for UNDER COST with that number after being jerked around with financing.

okay, I'm now convinced that you really don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. as I said earlier, I've had my MBP since March of this year. well, guess what? it doesn't have one scuff or scratch mark anywhere. I take it to work sometimes and I also take it with me on business trips. I'm just really careful about my stuff and I take good care of it.

so that basically proves that your "72 hours of using it" comment proves you literally don't have a clue. that being that, please stop posting in this thread because your responses are literally worth zero.

Couldn't agree more. I deal with uber-picky people all the time and it drives me NUTS. If I were Apple, it would try to lose this type of customer because it is definitely draining profits....which the rest of the happy customer pool must absorb:rolleyes:

IT is entirely likely that he got three faulty computers as the same happend to me. I don't think, in my case, asking for a working optical drive and a computer that does NOT make clunking noises when picked up is too much to ask. The bent lid thing on my just put it over the top. The books in my store are crap plain and simple. Maybe you got lucky and got a flawless one but just b/c you got lucky doesn't mean every one else with a problem is being too picky or is a bad customer. It just means you got lucky.

You had actual problems, OP is complaining about small scratches.

We refer to him as a jerk because of the way he deals with people.

wow, you judge me by the way I've dealt with one manager at an Apple store and how unlucky I was to receive multiple laptops with material blemishes. and for that you know me to be a jerk? tell you what. I will share another quick story with you. a few months ago I took delivery of my 2009 BMW 135i. they had to order the car from another dealership because they didn't have the one I wanted in stock.

so about a week later it comes in and they prep the vehicle to their standards. I then showed up to pick up my new car and I noticed one of the A/C control panels had a small nick in it. it looked like someone had hit it with something because it was enough to put a noticeable nick in the plastic itself. the sales manager was surprised that I caught that and she didn't. she then had no problem in having their parts department order a replacement part and they did the work three weeks later once the part arrived from Germany.

so let me guess? I was also being a jerk because I made them fix something on my $40K car that shouldn't have been broken in the first place, right?

go figure...

I'm in the market for a new car.

Judging by some of the posters here, I should settle for the car's paint having scratches. Why not a few dings too?

Actually, taking a few dollars off for them is usually better than having them try to fix it.

Of course if you look at the amount of money they actually will spend of the repair, it'll likely look worse at the end of a lease term than leaving it alone in the first place.

lol - exactly..... finally someone that's made me laugh instead of beating down on me because I have high standards.

No, but if there is 15 miles already on it, and the seat is adjusted funky that's no reason to take it back.

Ive been judging you on how you interact with people here:

"I think you're full of it because I don't take that kind of crap from anyone"

"if so, your brain worked overtime. "

"I'm now convinced that you really don't have a clue as to what you're talking about"

"you literally don't have a clue. that being that, please stop posting in this thread because your responses are literally worth zero."

as well as laughing in the face of store employees. People in stores have to deal with that kind of crap all the time, do you really think laughing in their face is going to help you at all?
