Has AT&T done enough to keep you once VZW gets the iPhone?

Verizon?

Let's see how verizon handles the amount of iPhone users they get!!!!! Will users be able to use safari during a call? How will the app store be handled? Verizons apps you have to pay for monthly.... Eeww!!!

It seems pretty simple to me--if you are happy with ATT service--and I am--then you will most likely just stick with ATT--as I will--if not--and you want an iPhone--trying Verizon may be a good move.

I travel all over the country (for work) as well. I have my iPhone, a work blackberry (AT&T) and a Verizon Mifi for laptop use. I can honestly say that I have just as good of coverage with AT&T as I do with Verizon most of the time.

If I know I am in a weak area, I turn off 3G and the iPhone works great on edge, AND still has faster data speeds than the Verizon mifi does! Also, my iP4 gets much better signal than the blackberry 9700.

Thanks for the tip. At my home, my 3GS for the last six months has been useless for telephone, it hangs on barely with 1 bar with 3G.
I just turned off 3G and zap upu comes 4 bars. Do not need 3G at home because I have WIFI for Data. I wish my phone would switch automatically to EDGE.

How wrong you are. It's called SVDO.

It seems most of the news has implied that VoRa is the solution Verizon was working on. But SVDO is always a possibility.

As someone who basically lives in Seattle, I'm going to have to disagree. at&t has the best coverage (both EDGE and HSPA) in the area. I've never had an instance in, around, or near Seattle where I didn't have signal, especially downtown.

TEG

My recent travels to Seattle (mostly downtown) resulted good coverage, but CRAP data speeds. The internet was unusable for the most part. It was embarassing walking around with this girl, pulling out my iPhone and trying to locate a sushi restaraunt using Yelp. It took a VERY long time to load during the times it actually worked. I wanted to throw my iPhone into the bay at times.

You should've created a poll :D

My thoughts exactly. I never understand opinion poll posts....without polls.

Edit: Oh, and to answer the OP....I'm on the fence. I'll be watching what Verizon does very closely. An LTE iPhone might lure me, but a CDMA might not. AT&T has made things better in Dallas...but no better than Verizon.

My only complaint with AT&T is how crappy 3G is in my area. I get an average of 800 kbps download with at least 500 ms ping. It will be worth it to me to at least test-drive Verizon to see how it works for me.

I can't believe I am responding to another Verizon iPhone thread ;)

I will be staying with AT&T no question
I have no desire to change at all IF Verizon actually gets the iPhone :)

My experience with AT&T has been great and I have no issues

Same here

AT&T isn't great by my house, but neither is Verizon... I'll stay with AT&T for now.

Okay.. I don't know why some people do not seem to understand that "good" cell reception is based on where an individual is residing/where most of their usage takes place. I'm in NYC, Verizon's reception was better, however their customer service is garbage. I haven't needed to deal with att's cs as yet so I can't comment on that. My voice calls have not been terrible, but haven't been that phenomenal. I do experience hissing/white noise during every phone call, and that can be very annoying, but I barely use the phone so I guess it doesn't matter. Att is a notch above my previous Metro Pcs provider, which I think I'll return to until June when the new Iphone comes out. If the new rumored features come out, I believe the phone will be more to my liking. Too many things are missing for me, imo. I use to be a bberry user and the iphone can take some lessons from them.

I would like to answer to you. I've traveled from New Orleans to Houston by road. As well as to Other places East of New Orleans (Mississippii, Alabama And Florida panhandle). Everywhere I go I get consistent 3G and when not available I get EDGE.

Dropped calls? Not one. Slow data, it's expected on EDGE; however, EDGE on the open road is so much faster than city EDGE.

You may say at this point, pfff, Southern states. Well no, it is not also the Southern states. Los Angeles to Vegas. Chicago to Indianapolis, then St. Louis.

So your argument I'm not buying it.

come to rural az bud. just hope you dont need to dial 911 on your att phone.

You know, metro is pretty good about activating non-metro pcs phones, they'll even help you flash the firmware to stock if you bring in a sprint or verizon phone, I wonder if they could activate a CDMA iPhone?

I'm completely in love with rollover. I generally don't use anywhere near all of my minutes, but there are the odd months when I will go way, way over. I've saved at least 200 bucks in overages since switching to AT&T from Verizon. I never have to even think about how I'm using my minutes anymore, I can't tell you how much of a stress reliever that is.

I never thought I would give two *****s about being able to talk and surf at the same time on AT&T... until the day I actually *needed* to do it. Now I don't know that I would want to give that up.

I have a FAN discount, which makes my current bill about the same as my dumb phone plan on Verizon was.

My coverage on At&t is almost as good as it was on Verizon, it's not enough a difference to bother me really. It's more that it's *different* than it is better or worse. I have coverage in places now that I didn't before, and less in places I used to have better with Verizon.

Verizon would have to have one hell of a deal to snag me back!

I've had occasional problems with ATT (and by occasional I mean sometimes frequently), but since I've had ATT for so long my contract is really good and I would have to pay at least $30 more/month with any of the other carriers.

I'm also hoping that if another carrier gets the iPhone it will divert traffic off of ATT's towers and I'll have better service.

AT&T service is horrible but I'll still be sticking with them. It's better than dealing with Verizon with always comes back to bite you in the ass in some way or another.

AT&T may be slightly incompetent but at least they're not malicious.

My first personal cell phone (when I was old enough to have my own contract and phone instead of having a phone on my parents' account) was with Verizon, before that they were with Cingular. That was in 2003, and I continued to have Verizon until 2009 when I canceled my contract early and paid the ETF because I finally decided that I wanted to buy an iPhone. I never had any major issues with Verizon, but their coverage hasn't been all that stellar in places that I've lived.

Then I switched to AT&T and got my first iPhone. I've never once thought about going back, even if Verizon got the iPhone. So I left them because they didn't have the iPhone, but I won't be going back just because they have it now. AT&T has wonderful coverage in my area, and I've had nothing but good experiences dealing with them.

Using my iPhone on vacation was a joke. AT&T's coverage (voice or data) was spotty at best. My kids with phones on Verizon happily texted away to friends, while I was lucky to get a voice call completed outside of major metropolitan areas. Their coverage stinks.

That having been said, I am going to be quite interested in how the iPhone actually ends up working on Verizon's network. I will have plenty of time to wait and see before my contract is up. I will say that for my situation, AT&T's customer service and billing is straightforward and has been zero problem to date. I cannot say the same about my family's Verizon account....

This will be interesting couple of months.

Can I ask a question.... why so much animosity towards ATT?

How come we don't here the same from Verizon customers or is there as much?

Because the grass is always greener on the other side... except when you find out it's the same grass.

Too lazy to really make the switch. Either way, I think AT&T's coverage will instantly be better when they won't have to handle all iPhones. :D

AT&T coverage in the Raleigh, NC area has been quite good for me, so I'm pleased. And, with my iPhone being on a GSM carrier, I can unlock it and use it when I leave the country, which is something I wouldn't be able to do with a Verizon iPhone without super programming skills or friends in high places.

Alot of people complain about AT&T dropping calls. This is a geographical phenomenon. If people live in an area with good coverage then they won't switch. If they live in an area with poor coverage which translates into a lot of dropped calls then they will.
