Has AT&T done enough to keep you once VZW gets the iPhone?

This really isn't a good poll because most people's answers are more complicated than that.

I'm still in a contract and I'm not made of money. ;)

So, I'd have to dump my ATT contract for $300+, then buy another iPhone 4 for $300, then sign a 2 year with VZW.

As for the question has ATT done enough? Well, they could do more. I could use more bars in more places, as they say they do. It could be cheaper. It could be faster. There's room for improvement, but it has improved since 2008.

I like being able to put someone on hold and then switch out to check mail or google something and then switch back. I have been on the phone numerous times where the person said "Check your email, I just sent something". With ATT, I can do that, with VZW, I won't be able to.

Ill be staying with att but I think if u ha e an unlimited data plan we should get free thering, wifi hotspot etc (I know it's pushing it). Also I nope they get 4G by next year hopefully this year tho. The thong is whith the verizon iPhone rumored to come or be announced this month where dodd that leave July. All the iPhones came out in July. How will they introduce 4G to it because all carriers don't have it so that might be a new fa for to consider.

ATT. Lesser of two evils. If Sprint had the iPhone, then I'd feel like I actually had a choice. Both Verizon and ATT are horrible entities.

Yes, ATT has, just by using GSM alone.

I love having the option of using my iPhone whenever I want, WHEREVER I want. The moment I leave the US, a Verizon phone becomes a brick.

I'll be switching (back) to Verizon.

Verizon and Sprint are the only two carriers who's signal penetrates the structure of the building in which I work. Verizon is the carrier most people have for their personal phones and all the work-issued phones are Verizon. AT&T and T-Mobile are unusable inside - I'm stuck on one bar or "no service" for most of the day.

Outside the building, AT&T seems to be fine.

AT&T coverage in the Raleigh, NC area has been quite good for me, so I'm pleased. And, with my iPhone being on a GSM carrier, I can unlock it and use it when I leave the country, which is something I wouldn't be able to do with a Verizon iPhone without super programming skills or friends in high places.

That depends on exactly what you want and where you are. I have roamed outside the US with a CDMA phone on more than one occasion. No programming needed. Now, if you want to program a local number into your phone instead of roaming....then what you say is somewhat true.

Alot of people complain about AT&T dropping calls. This is a geographical phenomenon. If people live in an area with good coverage then they won't switch. If they live in an area with poor coverage which translates into a lot of dropped calls then they will.

You act as if it's only due to geography and that the carriers have done everything in their power to properly cover these areas. That's not true.

Left VZ for AT&T and I am 110% happy with my iP4 on AT&T and their Service and Customer Service.

If VZ was the last phone company in the world, I would rather not have a phone, but good luck to those who leave AT&T for VZ IF they get the iPhone?

As horrible as AT&T people claim, I'll stay because I'll never go CDMA.

I like the flexibility to change devices on the fly, something you can't do with CDMA.

I'm so glad Steve Jobs (****** & jag-off) horrendous idea of an internal SIM was knocked down by the carriers.

I don't live in the US, that's not a problem in most countries since Apple decided you could buy the iPhone on any carrier.

I'm sticking with AT&T, never have I remotely entertained the thought of going to Verizon. AT&T may not as great 3G reception in A FEW places as Verizon's pathetic "3G" AT&T's 3G significantly faster, AT&T customer service is on a whole new level compared to Verizon especially when it comes to billing issues, And AT&T actively supports the troops overseas and I love that fact.

Edit: and alot of dropped call problems stem from the actual iPhone itself not AT&T.

Actually, to switch devices on Verizon, all you do is dial *228. Done.

I wonder what your tone was like when AT&T was stuck on "pathetic" 2G while Sprint and Verizon users were all basking in the glory of 3G data?

What's happened here is the normal leap-frogging of technology. To call one carriers technology "pathetic" becuase they are an the downside on their way to the upside of their technology cycle is just showing ignorance. Verizon will soon be blowing away AT&T in data speeds again. I have no doubt the cycle will go back to AT&T again in the future...and back and forth.

Yea but can you pick up any VZW phone and do that? Like a friends phone that has never been associated with your account. And can you do that with any phone that conforms to the CDMA standard and bands?

To the first part of your question..yes.

Second part, no. This is where Verizon and Sprint suck, they controll the ESNs that are allowed on their system. If you don't buy it from them, it's very difficult to get them to add it to their database.

They say this is to maintain a stable network. Blah.

Wrong, that is not on the fly and and I need to stay with a Verizon device PLUS unlike GSM I can't buy an unlocked phone and and switch right to it.

This is where CDMA fails miserly.

How exactly is that not on the fly? It's in fact easier to dial *228 than it is to get to the sim card on a lot of phones.

Can't argue the Verizon phone part. That part does piss me off. But it doesn't mean you can't have a smartphone and dumphone and switch back and forth on the fly.

Yea, and you are also at the mercy of the network, which i'd rather not be. I prefer the SIM method to this day, it is the ultimate freedom.

Can ya dial *228 on all devices? No.

Are you sure of that? I haven't run into one that I couldn't. But I haven't checked them all.

I do agree the sim method is superior, but people should know the entire truth, not just one person's opinionated response. This is why I answer these types of posts. Not because I prefer Verizon. I'm actually on the fence about switching. I'll be watching the situation closely.

It is geographical. Hilly areas are much harder to provide coverage. I should know that full well. Honduras is full of mountains and carriers here have *many* towers and in many places *really* close together to provide service.

Not only that, if a certain area has *lots* of red tape, like San Francisco for example. It will take time to provide the necessary hardware.

Stop spreading lies.

That's no lie. The current iPhone barely has enough space for the GSM SIM, what makes you think a Verizon version will have space for that AND the CDMA chip?

dialing *228 on a USB data stick?

I'm still living in the stone age with my "regular" phone on AT&T, but I'm considering my first smartphone, one of them being the iPhone. I would end up doing a LOT of music streaming from work since I can't use my work computer for stuff like that, and Verizon's unlimited data is very enticing. I really wish AT&T would bring back their unlimited plan, since I like having rollover minutes when necessary and most of my family has AT&T. Not gonna be able to stream music all day on just 2GB though...
