I'm a Best Buy employee. I understand many people are upset over the reservation process so I want to clear a few things up:
1. Your gift card is refundable. If you find the iPad somewhere else you can return the $100 gift card and cancel your reservation (provided you haven't already spent money from the card).
2. The system is set up to ensure that those who come in first get their iPads first. You might not like having to put money down but at least you don't have to worry about getting up at 7 a.m. each morning and waiting in a line just to be told, "Hey, we actually don't have any iPad 2's today. Sorry, try again later." As soon as we get a shipment, we'll make sure all the reservations are fulfilled before we make the product available on the floor. Speaking up shipments...
3. Apple gives us
no indication of when we will receive new iPads. Although we can place an order for a given amount, we're at the liberty of Apple's shipments as to how many we receive and when we receive them. They don't come in like the rest of our product on regular deliveries. When employees tell you that we don't have any idea, they mean it. We don't have any extra access to shipping knowledge. We just wait for Apple to drop product off. If employees give you any shipping information other than this, it is most likely wrong. We don't have any idea when more iPad 2's arrive.
If you've put down a pre-order, please don't call the store. We're not secretly holding them in the back and trying to deprive you of your iPad 2. As soon as something comes in, we'll let you know. At least that's how my store is doing it. We care about our customers. iPads are great revenue for our stores and, contrary to what many people say, we want to sell them to people.
For those of you who have preordered with Best Buy, we appreciate the business! I know it's annoying not to have information about when the product will be in, but that's why we'll let you return the deposit just in case you happen to find it somewhere else
