Bought my first Mac the day the new MBPs are announced. It's a i7 17" 8gb ram model. I just got an email saying that my item has been dispatched and "In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly". Yet it is not expected to be delivered until May 5th?!

Can anyone explain to me what exactly is going on here?
anyone else in the same boat?

Thanks

Yes I am in the same situation. I got a 28-29.04 estimate before it shipped and now the estimate delivery is 4.05. I hope it won't take that long.

I think we'll get a TNT reference once Kuehle&Nagel hand them the hot potato over.

mine just went to Prepared for Shipment in the last hour. Does anyone know if they ship out on Saturdays? Its sat in China already...

From my [now extremely excessive] research, it seems that FDX28 PVG-ANC operates Tue - Sat, and FDX90 PVG-MEM operates Mon - Fri.

Assuming you're shipping to Los Angeles like your location says, they'd almost certainly route your package via ANC and not MEM (see previous post.) So my guess is that if you paid for expedited shipping, it'd probably go out Saturday via Anchorage, since it wouldn't arrive until at least Wednesday unless they sent it the extra-long way via MEM on Monday. If you didn't pay for expedited, it might sit around until Tuesday for the next ANC flight...

Again, this is quite speculative at this point, at least until someone gets an Anchorage scan, which might be happening shortly since the Friday PVG-ANC just arrived in ANC 9 minutes ago. :)

My history is as follows:
Apr 16, 2010 11:32am Left FedEx origin facility Shanghai CN
Apr 16, 2010 11:03am Picked up Shanghai CN
Apr 15, 2010 9:59pm Shipment information sent to FedEx

I went back and looked through other forums (here and elsewhere) to see examples of people posting the complete journey of products via FedEx from China. Not all had an "in transit" scan after the "left fedex origin facility". Also, the fedex origin facility is their facility (hence the fedex part), not the factory. The "picked up" scan at 11:03am Shanghai time was the leaving the factory.

So far, no one seems to have reported an "in transit" scan, so I would guess that today's shipment may be an example of one that doesn't get that scan for some reason (maybe when it's shipped as big bundle vs individual items?)

In any case, we'll know within a few hours after the plane lands in Alaska! :)

U have the SAME times as mine..and same dates...mines in transit as well. After speaking to an apple rep 3 times over the phone, I guess he said on the first day the macbook pros were released, especially in the first day, a couple hundred thousand orders was placed. Keep in mind, alot of those orders also were going to retail stores, so they are very busy..and trying to get as many as they can out as fast as they can hence the reason why the built time now says 5-7 days on their website.

Cruel Fate!

I just recieved a call from my apartment's front office; they called to let me know that I just recieved a package at the desk. I've been checking my order status all day, and it still says "Prepared to Deliver." Of course I KNEW it couldn't be my new MBP...nonetheless, my heart skipped a beat the second they said "package." I ran downstairs and...

Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. I ordered it the same day as the MBP but obviously haven't been giving it any thought, entirely forgot about it.

I'm pathetic >.<

Same stuff here, it got shipped today (16.04) and the estimate delivery is fourth of may.
By the way, did they charge your bank account?

Flight FDX28 has landed in Anchorage! [http://flightaware.com/live/flight/FDX28/history/20100416/1255Z/ZSPD/PANC]

Now waiting for it to take off for Memphis (around 4ish alaskan time)...

No reason it'll necessarily stay on that same flight (the continuation to MEM may not even be the same plane)... there are several flights a day ANC-MEM.

And shipping to St Louis, there's a good chance you'll get routed on FDX14 or FDX22 to IND instead. :)

...I need to find something better to do. :)

Thanks for being our MBP flight command center. :p

So, if they haven't shipped out by now are they pretty much stalled until monday?

Or will they work on them over the weekend?

Still in Not Yet Shipped mode

Printed invoice but haven't checked my bank account. I doubt they would have shipped prior to payment. What about your account has it been charged yet?

Not charged yet, but I canceled a backpack that was part of my order yesterday (just in time before it all was shipped) and for some strange reason Apple has unblocked all the money on my bank account instead of just decreasing the sum by 80 pounds. I think they might fix it on Monday.

You're not PsycoSkip from NASIOC perchance ?

Thank you so much for your great research. I got expedited shipping to Los Angeles. I would've like to have had it before Wed but Wed will have to do...

Being expedited, my guess would be that you'll be out to ANC on the Saturday flight, then get routed to OAK, then either driven down to your area or flown OAK-LAX... There doesn't seem to be a flight from ANC to the LAX area.

You could get your laptop on Monday, and definitely by Wednesday. (I'd guess by Tuesday even.)

I'm guessing they work right through the weekend. Chinese factories don't tend to shut down for weekends and such.

There's still FDX28 which seems to operate on Saturdays. Leaves around 9PM local time, which is 9AM EDT...about 16 hours from now. So if you get a "prepared for shipment" in the next few hours you may ship out of China tomorrow. Otherwise it's a wait until either Mon or Tue for the next flights...

Well, since FX28 landed in Anchorage and I my tracking status didn't change, I'm hoping that mine is on FX90 to Memphis (currently just flew over Japan). This would be better for me anyway since I'm in Michigan.

I guess I'll stop spamming the refresh button until around 11pm tonight (Memphis time) and hope that I get an update around then when FX90 is scheduled to land there.

Just got Prepared for Shipment on my BTO

2.66GHz Intel Core i7
4GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRM - 2X2GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200
SuperDrive 8X DL
MBP 17" HR Glossy WS Display

Great thing is that I didn't order it until the afternoon of 3/14 :)

If you go to the apple store right now and try to order an i7 15" with Hi Res glossy screen -or- the 7400RPM 500g drive, it will say shipping time is now 5-7 days out.

That tells me either they had limited supply of the upgraded components and demand for that configuration outstripped their expectations.

Ordering a base i7 15" still says ships next day.

From what I read here, Chinese factories don't stop for anything. This article is about micro$oft, but I would imagine apple has the same type of factories (why else operate in China?)

Hmm, it shows me 1 - 3 business days for the 7200RPM upgrade. The only upgrade that shows as longer is the Hi-Res Glossy, which is showing as 5 - 7 days as you said...
