Congrats to those who had theirs just land in Memphis!

Mine still shows the "In Transit" Shanghai Apr 20, 2010 3:20 AM time stamp. I guess mine will be on the flight to Anchorage in about 10 hours?

I really wonder why they delayed mine to a later flight, even though it's been ready since Friday.

Well bollocks. The slight chance that shipments to us 0320 'In Transit' timestamp customers were on that flight are gone. It's looking like those shipments won't leave China for another ~10 hours. Add another 13 for flight time, they should arrive in Memphis (if that's where they're going) at around 0100 EST on the 21st, leaving 39 hours for Fedex to deliver them to those promised delivery by the end of the 22nd.

Yah baybee! Arrived in Memphis!

w00t!

Will be interesting to see how fast it turns around there. Final destination for me is NYC, and I live ten blocks from the local fedex depot. Wish I could go wait for the truck!!

Indeed. :) Hoping it makes it onto FDX1473 MEM-BOS or FDX1406 MEM-BOS. It could even get on FDX1454 MEM-PVD and be driven the 60 miles up to here. (My local distribution facility is about a 10 minute drive from BOS, though.)

Hey, I'm a Bostonian too and mine just arrived in Memphis like you. Mine is expedited shipping with an est. delivery by wednesday the 21st at 10:30. You think we have a shot in them being delivered sometime tomorrow?

I still suspect that we may see things mostly on FDX28 PVG-ANC, with the PVG-MEM flight that just landed being due to PVG-ANC only running Tue - Sat. Nobody went direct to MEM on Friday or Saturday (and PVG-MEM operates Mon - Sat.)

But we'll find out tomorrow...I'll continuing tracking things and poking around until that batch gets in since I'm still curious. :)

So...has anyone with an Apr 19 timestamp that was NOT 11:41PM (the folks with 3:20AM timestamps on Apr 19 I guess) seen an arrival into MEM yet? If that doesn't happen in the next hour or so, I'm guessing they're either waiting to fly PVG-ANC, or on a truck/train to CAN to fly via NRT-ANC. ...although, the couple of folks that had departure scans in CAN and arrival in ANC (and there's no direct flight, and one of the NRT flights lined up best by far) also just had a normal departure scan in PVG...not the two "in transit" scans that we're seeing that seems to mean the shipment went out of PVG directly (to ANC or MEM.)

It could be that they load/unload in a LIFO-type way. So us folks who got loaded last had our cargo containers unloaded and scanned first, and those of you who were loaded earlier may take a bit longer to see them unloaded and scanned.

I think yours (and mine) are already bound for the US on a flight not listed by FlightAware and that they will arrive there in about 2h.

There has been a strong correllation between having those two "In-Transit"-scans and a departing flight, with the first one being a real scan and the second a virtual one inserted by the tracking system when the plane takes off.

In fact FlightAware is only listing flights to/from the US, our MacBooks might as well be bound for a layover in Canada, Japan or somewhere else. We'll know tomorrow morning for sure.

My 0320 timestamp is dated April 20. That's why I'm pretty sure it wasn't on that FDX90 flight. The aircraft was already in the air for about 3.5 hours when that scan occurred.

Well, here's to seeing an update in about 10 hours or so.

I give them a 50 - 75% chance. :) Both FDX1406 and FDX1473 are now showing up as "scheduled", so they do have a decent bit of capacity into BOS overnight... I've never tracked these specifically, but I seem to recall in the past having FedEx stuff that came from Memphis to Boston overnight generally arrive more around 7AM (FDX1473) than 6AM (FDX1406) from the FedEx tracking info. Makes sense since I'm so close to the airport; they probably put stuff that needs to be trucked out further onto the early flight before loading stuff that's closer to BOS and can make it on the later flight.

...I'll be asleep, and I'll be extremely happy for once to have my sleep disturbed, if it's the FedEx guy showing up. :)

my replacement mbp just landed in Memphis too. Hoping it goes out to ATL tonight in time for a Tuesday delivery? If not, Wednesday (as estimated) is a dead day for finals, so i will be home and able to wait for the delivery.

Anybody else having trouble being able to pre-sign for the delivery through apple's portal? its not showing up in my 90 day order history. Think its due to the applecare replacement?

Yea bummer, it looks like our batch was delayed for whatever reason. The only reason I can think of is that they wanted to route our patch through Anchorage rather than Memphis (which makes sense for me since I'm on the West Coast, but I'm not sure if it makes sense for everyone else in the same position). I'm guessing our batch will go on FDX28 to Anchorage at around 9pm CST (in about 8 hours). It should land in AK on Tuesday night, so should be no problem for delivery on the 22nd. I'm a little worried that it won't be delivered by my estimated delivery of the 21st before 10:30am though.

WooHoo. My tracking info still shows "in transit" from Shanghai but I'll give it a few minutes and see if it updates.

* edit * And 7 minutes later my tracking status updated to "Apr 19, 2010 11:41 PM
Arrived at FedEx location MEMPHIS, TN" also!!!

Here's hoping it makes it onto FDX1471.

Might also be on FDX1401 an hour later! That seems to run on Tuesdays as well. So no need to worry if you're still watching and it doesn't seem to make it onto FDX1471. :) Both get in with plenty of time to get to your local distribution facility.

Edit: I updated my mini-FAQ with your info noting that you can go from "Picked up" to being in the air the same day. Also expanded on the UPS section a bit for Canadian folks...

3:20 am transit boat

Yes, mine still shows in transit shanghai china

Does this mean my wed 21 10:30 am delivery date is wrong?

And to above poster I paid for expedited shipping last Wednesday for a STOCK 13' mbp!! STOCK no mods whatsoever and I was told it would ship locally because it is STOCK. Will I still get it by Wednesday. I'm in Washington State West Coast. I dunno but this is definately the last time I ever order online. I love Apple but this is rediculous!!:confused:

How may of you guys ordered with expedited shipping?

I did. And my est. shipping date is 04/21/2010, but I think they might make it on today.

Same scenario for me. Mine just landed in Memphis and I live in Nashville (3 hours away) and my estimated delivery is on 4/21 at 10:30am.

You're assuming you have more information about Fedex' schedule than their tracking system? If it states it's on schedule and will be delivered on the 21st before 10:30a, I'd rather trust it than a webpage that specifically states:

This airport is outside of FlightAware's service area and will only show data on flights to/from FlightAware's service area and be generally unreliable.

So how does it work now that it is in Memphis? Will there be a flight soon out of Memphis to come closer to Arizona (for me). Or do I have to wait until tomorrow to hear any updates?

True, either flight would be fine. I guess I'll just check in the morning when I wake up and see if it's on either flight.

I ordered with normal shipping, but called Apple and very nicely asked if they could change it to expedited shipping for free. They did so, and it was changed before it shipped. I'm pretty sure it can't be changed after it's shipped. So, if you're not expedited, it can't hurt to call Apple and hope you get someone nice and ask for free expedited shipping. I actually called twice myself; the first person I spoke too seemed *very* unpleasant, so I didn't even specifically ask. The next person I spoke to was much more friendly, I explained things and asked nicely, and he was more than happy to do it. Likewise, if you did pay for expedited shipping and things aren't looking all that expedited, you can probably get the $18 charge refunded. See the mini-FAQ in my signature for some info on how we think things "should" ship; some of that may be helpful if Apple gives you a hard time if you try getting expedited shipping charges refunded.

Anyone gotten a customs clearance scan in Memphis yet? Still waiting on mine, though there's a good bit of time until the potential connecting flights that might get me my MBP a day early.

Yes, we are assuming that we have more information about specific FedEx flights than their tracking system *provides to us*. Certainly their internal tracking data is far more revealing than what fedex.com shows, but they don't share most of that with us. We've quite successfully inferred things like "in transit" scans in Shanghai that match flight times meaning the package was on that flight; a bunch of folks, including me, just had their MBPs arrive in Memphis on the flight that they were assumed to be on.

Also, various folks have already reported getting their shipments a day earlier than the "scheduled" delivery date. It's actually possible to get to about anywhere reasonably close to a major US city in 1 business day from when the flights depart Shanghai.

The airports outside of FlightAware's service area are of course a minor problem. However, for flights to/from their service area, they're generally pretty accurate. E.g., all the PVG-ANC and PVG-MEM flights that have been used so far showed up on FlightAware, and we matched people's tracking info to those flights. There are some things going via routes that would take flights that can't be tracked there, but the majority are not.

Basically, this is just a fun thing to do to pass the time while we wait for our new MBPs to arrive. Think of it as a game; I assumed my laptop was on the PVG-MEM flight when its second "in transit" timestamp exactly matched the PVG-MEM flight yesterday...and found out that assumption was correct about an hour ago. :) If you don't care, then just stick with what fedex.com shows you. If you're more curious, then you can do fun things like track the plane your laptop is on in flight. See the mini-FAQ in my sig for more info, gleaned from looking at lots of flight data from FlightAware and elsewhere, as well as from lots of people posting their tracking info. Nobody's forcing you to try to have fun tracking your package in more detail...
