They either lied or didnt know what they are talking about.

From T&Cs:

10.1.1 All Apple-branded desktop and portable computer products shall be subject to a 36 calendar month warranty period commencing from the date of purchase (the date of your invoice).

Also when apple called to sell me apple care the other week i told them i had a 3 yr warranty and i asked if what they were trying to sell me would give me any more cover and he said no.

As far as I was made aware (by someone who did know about the 3years as standard thing) the 'free' option for HE purchases excluded a small thing... Something like instore repairs was free but if you wanted to phone up and send it off you had to pay for shipping... or something semi-trivial like that. Obviously I could have been lied to, and now wasted £50 for nothing, but I was under the impression it did do some bumping, if only minor... And judging by how snooty some people think Apple are if the people buy through the regular site and don't get AppleCare (and have problems) I was quite happy to shed the extra £50... If that's not the case, then fair enough, but should there be any problem it could work as extra leverage...

they told me there was no difference. Not only that but i wasn't aware you could send your mac away for repair in the UK like you can in the states.....its up to the owner to take it to an apple authorised service center who complete the work under apple warranty.

yes i was told similar

that if i ever needed to ring up or have to send it away for major repairs it would all be free and it didnt matter if i was in america or australia it could be fixed for me

i think it must be some kind of extension to the 3 year standard....my invoice for the purchase of this "warranty" has uplift in the description so it must be some kind of extended cover for something

Again its just a money making scheme. All apple notebooks come with a worldwide warranty as standard and since the HE warranty is just the 1yr warranty extended then you guys really are paying for nothing.

Why would the Applecare team ring me 1yr on for my iMac and then tell me not to bother when they knew i had the 3year warranty? You guys dealt with sales people and they will try and sell you a dead dog if they could.

EDIT: I guess the other question you could ask yourselves is why bother making a 3yr warranty on the HE purchases if they are giving you the Applecare at only £50?

Woooohoo!!!! It's in the city! Man is there ANY chance I could go out there and pick it up myself I wonder? Says it's set to be delivered Monday...

bah apparently apple has to call fedex to tell them it's ok for me to come pick it up without them first making a delivery attempt. kinda silly...

I have just ordered a 2.2 MBP with 160gb, Should be here in the UK on the 13th (hope thats not unlucky!)

On the issue of the AppleCare Warranty etc. I rang Apple yesterday to try and get my discoloured palmrest fixed on my macbook and because i had no AppleCare they basiclly told me to bugger off. They were really unhelpfull, it's their problem at the end of the day, they should of used a better plastic!, they told me it would cost £35 just to phone them and get a box sent out to pick it up.

My advice is to get AppleCare especially if your buying from the HE store like i do. They couldn't do enough to help me when i had a problem with my imac G5 with Applecare! They look down on non Applecare customers!

Also:

i rang apple up after the problems with getting my macbook fixed becuase i hadn't ordered Applecare with my new MBP, and decided i really needed it! They told me i couldn't have it for the £50 it is on the HE store because you can only get it at that price when you order, they wanted to charge me £200, i haven't even got the computer yet! my only option is to wait for it to turn up and send it straight back, without opening the box and then re-order it with the Applecare! how can you have a MBP turn up after a week of waiting and not open it! Not happy with apple!

rant over....still, can't wait for MBP, been waiting for them to upgrade it for months!:D

grrr they keep pushing my new mbp back... first it was supposed to go out on the 7th, then the 8th, now the 12th-14th! agh! now i won't get it until the 19th.

That'd be great but I don't think they do in Ottawa :(

Yeah, no Saturday delivery SUCKS! I even called FedEx to see if I was eligible for Saturday delivery...and that was a big negative. However, something odd happened to me today...

I also ordered a BooqBag sleeve for my MBP the same day I ordered my MBP. It has had an estimated delivery date of June 9th since the day it shipped. I always thought it was an error, and thought nothing else of it.

However, now the tracking for my BooqBag says that its on the FedEx Truck for Delivery (as of 6:47am Central Time) !! My MBP left Memphis this morning around 3:45am (Central Time) and it takes about 4 hours to get from Memphis to my local distributor...so, I am not sure it will go on a truck for delivery or not.

In fact, I'm not even too sure that my BooqBag will come. I mean, it isn't technically supposed to. I suppose they could load the trucks for Monday on Saturday...I also heard that the online tracking system was all computer generated, so it may not mean a thing; probably just a computer forgetting that I can't have a Saturday delivery! :p I am, obviously, crossing my fingers that both come today; but I am certainly not holding my breath. What ever happens, happens! Monday isn't really that far away.

Booo just called Fedex again. They were willing to do Saturday delivery however they said the sorting center doesn't have saturday SORTING so I can't have it delivered and I can't go pick it up either. Ah well.

@ travistaylor -- How long did it take your MBP to get from Shanghai to Memphis? Mine looks like it has been on the plane for about 25 hours now, which doesn't seem right. Did it take that long for you? Maybe FedEx just hasn't updated properly.

check out my pic above. it didn't insta update either. the times were back-stamped but you can see how long the shanghai-->memphis trip took.

well surely its kind of against the law to trick customers in buying something they already bought?

Same here, Trepex. They must be wondering why they're getting all the anxious callers on a Saturday morning. ;) *sigh* Waiting until Monday will be the hardest part!

this is what i have apparently payed for.... the extra £50 is so i dont have to then pay £35 just to ring em up an say "oi its bust...fix it"

though the guy on the phone actually quoted me £40 per call if i didnt have apple care

No because Warranty's are very funny things.... you can still ask a manufacturer to replace your unit after its 1 yr warranty if you can prove that the fault is something you would not expect on a unit of that age under reasonable use and indeed there are examples of people who have successful court cases based on that.

All electronics companies sell 'extended care' packages because people are stupid enough to pay for them and don't know there legal rights. In our case the legalities are ever so much stronger as we actually have a three year warranty!

I can 100% guarantee you that you have paid £50 for nothing.

That is the route it will take. Use caution when using the FedEx Online Tracking. It's pretty sketchy. There is a slight chance that your package isn't even on a plane yet. I thought that when it "Left Origin" it was on a plane...This, however, was not the case. Instead it finally said "In Transit" I guess it's just a vague estimate of where your package is.

Someone a couple of days ago posted that his online tracking said his MBP was still in Alaska, but it was actually on his front door step...So who knows!

I've GOT IT! :-D

For those of you in the UK/London area, the Bluewater store has some of the 17" machines with Hi-res, Glossy, and 160/7200rpm drives. They may also have other models, but I only enquired on this particular one - of which they had 6 as of this morning.

I cancelled my online order and picked it up a bit ago... it's beautiful!

Bluewater is at 01322 640 100 - probably wise to get them to hold one if you're going to make the trip. They're open til 9pm tonight... not sure about tomorrow's hours but they are open.

Cheers all - I'm off to play! :D :D :D
