Btw, to the person who's ordering it from China: what is the keyboard layout like? Only I have a Chinese friend, and I was thinking of buying one of the new 17" MBPs from the Chinese Apple Store, and having it delivered to his address (saving myself £400 :)).

Hate to break it to you but all machines on higher education purchase in the UK come with 3 yrs Warranty as standard you didn't need to pay for it!

eh?

the guy explicitly told me

90 days then limited one year warranty was all i was gonna get unless i payed the £58 to extend it to 3 year world wide protection plan

this is the applecar protection plan im on about here. you can spec it at the bottom of the page when you order online

surely it didnt come with that already? else he's just told me a pack of lies.

Wow!!.. I just read the email I received from Apple and it says:
Shipment Date:
JUN 08, 2007

Delivers by:
JUN 12, 2007

The 12th is great if it does get delievered then. If not it is still much better than the poor people who got their ship dates bumped out quite a bit due to limited supplies. I would be really upset if that happened to me.

does anyone know whether the facility in shanghai is kept running on the weekends, I know a fair number of operations that are 3-4 shifts 24/7?

I am sitting in the same boat as many of you waiting for my MBP to arrive. Right now all I have is Ships by: Jun 11 - Jun 13.

Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

Just picked up an email telling me that due to higher than expected demand (did Apple not read these forums before the release and realise that we were all just sat here waiting/begging for these things?) my shipment has been put back from the 8th June until the 22nd. Delivery "should" be by the 3rd July. Mine's the 17" hi-res, non-glossy 160gb 7200rpm model - delivery to a UK address.

It wouldn't have taken a genius to realise these things were going to be popular and either make a shed load of them before now or to hold off the announcement until they had plenty ready.

As a switcher from Windows, it isn't the best of starts. Oh well, another opportunity to practice being patient.

Message sent on a 500Mhz pc, NOT a shiny new MacBook Pro. Hmmph.

Oh, and the UK Apple store still says "ready to ship: 3 days" for the exact same spec.

Mine has shipped (to CT, ordered 5am on 6/6)!

Jun 8, 2007 8:38 PM Left origin SHANGHAI CN

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200

It does and it doesn't. What they don't tell you (and I've had the same) is you get, as quoted here: http://www.apple.com/uk/education/hed/nationalcontract/

"Special three year parts and labour coverage, with additional first-year warranty and support benefits, as standard"

However, I'm quite happy to bump it up to the full AppleCare for £50odd quid - I wouldn't have at £200 mind (unless I wasn't a student).

Oh and I've been lurking for a while (another 'switcher'-to-be, although I've used Macs a lot before and am fairly used to them) and can join the UK people here waiting for a shipment from TNT... Mine (as in sig) was despatched earlier today, and hopefully will arrive soon! :)

Well I don't get it - clearly people who have ordered the same spec well after I ordered are already getting shipping confirmation. The 8th June (my 'estimated' shipping date) is nearly over in the UK (and certainly long gone in Shanghai!) and the estimated delivery still shows as blank at this moment.

On the bright side I've had no email saying it has been delayed... yet! :(

Hmm the 17" seems to have had all the bad luck! :(

I was wondering about when mine was going to be despatched, as I ordered at 12.48pm on Tues, but once the delivery dates disappeared I was sure it was going to be shipped... It has, and now my delivery date jumped from 19th to the 21st!

holy hell in a hand cart mines shipped! at the very last minute its shipped!

i have a tracking number

where do i put this?

I had to wait more than a day for TNT to begin tracking it, but just go to tnt.co.uk and you'll see where from there.

They either lied or didnt know what they are talking about.

From T&Cs:

10.1.1 All Apple-branded desktop and portable computer products shall be subject to a 36 calendar month warranty period commencing from the date of purchase (the date of your invoice).

Also when apple called to sell me apple care the other week i told them i had a 3 yr warranty and i asked if what they were trying to sell me would give me any more cover and he said no.

What the hell? My computer has been sitting in Indianapolis since 12:40 AM and it just departed at 8:44 PM. Needs to get to the east coast. I want my macbook pro already!

I'm 95% sure this is correct. It's what I would have thought anyways. Usually FedEx is the slow one... not necessarily Apple. Either that or they are equal in time.

So my order just went from Shipping Exception in Shanghai to In Transit.... 26 HOURS LATER!!! Hmmmm... I'm not too happy if this means my MBP sat in China for a whole day and then some... :( I want my new baby. This iBook G4 can feel its age. I want speeeeeeeeeed. I want graphics. I want a screen where more than 2/3 of it lights up lol (I think my logic board somehow died partially)

I don't believe yours sat in China for a day, cuz mine said that to, but i called fed ex and they said it was already in Alaska.

Hey - just called Apple to ask about the 1-3 day estimate now given when one selects the 7200 on a 17", and was told my 17" MBP (ordered early Wed. morn) should be here by Mon/Tues. Huh? Not sure if I believe it, no change on the Apple order details page yet, should have asked them to email me confirmation. We'll see - will be excellent if true! My config:

17" MBP, 2.4 C2D, 2GB, 160GB@7200rpm, Hi-Res Glossy...

I ordered mine at 6:50am PST (woke up early). I got the 17'' MBP 2.4, 4GB, 160@7200rpm, Hi-res glossy and it shipped this morning. Says will be here between Tue and Wed. With my luck, Wed. Esp since it just says Left Origin Shanghai.

OK. Mine has failed to ship in the provided shipping time. What is my course of action. I feel I at least deserve my $15 dollar expediated shipping charge. Any advice would be appreciated.

I ordered at approximately 11:15 PST on June 5th. From my order status: "Ships by: Jun 6 - Jun 8, Delivers by: Jun 7 - Jun 11." It's June 9th and still no shipping information at all. I've called Apple 3 times to verify everything was going smoothly and all 3 times they said it was fine... This is starting to get irritating... This is my first mac and it better be worth it. I have faith that it will. Sorry for my vent. Proceed.

no shipping date

I ordered mine (17" MBP with hi-res display matte) on June 6th from a premium reseller (in Austria) via the Apple Store Austria;
they don't even know a date yet!!!!
somehow I get the feeling that I still will have to wait another couple of week until I can hold "my precious" in my hands!! - big bummer though 'cauz I've been waiting for the new MBP for more than 6 months now!!!
but since I am located in Austria we might be one of the last people in the queue being served/deliverd to
Thomas
