If the rMBP Haswell has no dGPU, I'll definitely be waiting for Broadwell as it will have a fully revamped iGPU. Haswell's Iris Pro is hardly any faster than last year's GT650M.

This applies only for the 15" i guess...

I would imagine we might see an announcement at the same event that the Mac Pro is released. Imagine an event where we see the Mac Pro, new MacBook Pro's and new Thunderbolt display.

Broadwell... won't bring masses of gains.
Tick-tock cycle for intel processors
Tick is the big improvement
tock is more progressive.. a slight improvement

- sandy bridge ivy bridge
same with haswell and broadwell

And that is why I shall get Haswell.

It's not the CPU that makes Broadwell interesting. It's DDR 4, nVidia Tesla GPUs, IGZO, new Thunderbolt, HDMI and DisplayPort. A few of these might make their way into Haswell models, but certainly not the first two.

This thread is just pure nonsense. You really think Apple would update the iMacs to Haswell but not the rMBP (before christmas)? You do realize that the MBPs are Apples best-selling computers. Moreover, if any computer - they would be the ones to benefit from Haswells extra battery-life, as well as improved graphics (rMBP 13"), hence why so many people are awaiting the updated model.

I could not agree more. Every theory the OP has can be debunked quite easily. It would make no sense for Apple to pre-announce the Haswell rMBP.

True and true.

(Actually, when it came to the MBA, with the exception of battery life , Haswell has offered hardly any CPU performance difference to Ivy).
I don't understand how somebody can be so flippant about extending battery life to 12 hours in a portable machine while maintaining performance. Sounds nothing short of a freaking miracle to me.

It remains to be seen if Haswell will extend this miraculous battery life towards the rMBP 15's power hungry screen. Most of my work stints without access to AC power are only 3-4 hours at a time so the extra battery life didn't matter much for me. The SSD speed increase OTOH is noticeable and welcome.

12 hours is excessive. I'd be happy with 9 or 10 hours in the 13". That's the model that college students like (at least I do, but the Air was niche when I was a freshman), and not every campus has outlets in every classroom. The i5 13" models don't need the performance of the i7 15" models.

12 hours is excessive.
Yes indeed. The audacity of Apple to shove even more battery life down our throats. Bastards!

But isn't more better in the event that receptacle is too far to reach with a 4 foot magsafe? (Think hard).

You guys crack me up. :D

12 hours would be legit, but I don't expect that the 13" rMBP will have the same battery life as the 13" MBA. The retina screen alone should consume battery faster. Just trying to be realistic :/

Maybe for you it's battery life>performance
for me it's performance> battery life

On a rMBP 13, I'd pick a 7 hour battery life on a quad-core haswell vs. 9 hours on a dual core haswell.

I have a very strong suspicion that the rumors of rMBP with Haswell processor started as nothing but a rumor that grew out of control.

...

If you need a rMBP, buy now. This wait has been a waste of time and I wish I had not fallen for it.
The reason why rMBP hasn't been updated is Thunderbolt 2. Apple will announce updated rMBP and new Mac Pro together, along with new Thunderbolt 2-based accessory (or accessories).

Throwing some fuel into the fire and cross posting from the 'Waiting for Haswell..' thread.

Grab your bucket of salt.

According to someone over on another laptop forum, when inquiring about the Dell M3800, this is what the Dell rep supposedly told them.
"Sorry but right now we still haven't got the motherboard and chipset orders from Intel so we can offer this model line, in fact all 4th gen models we currently carry are offered as a fixed build due to shortage of parts.
latest word from Intel is they will fulfill all backlog orders by the 1st or 2nd week of October, this is actually not just us here at Dell but other manufacturers as well."

This combined with the fact that a lot of Haswell laptops are actually 'backordered' across multiple brands, I'm fairly certain the delay is partially, if not completely, Intel's "fault."

Again, bucket of salt and all that.

I think you mean Nvidia Maxwell, not Tesla.

I don't see how Apple can avoid an upgrade. Intel sets the tempo for this.

True that, my thoughts would be how many CPUs did Apple buy and need to run out before they can/will update to Haswell.

Not meaning to troll, though Alienware, Dell and HP have had Haswell laptops available for sometime now and Apple seems to be lagging a little.

I think with the 5C, 5S, and iOS7 they've just been too sidetracked to make macs a priority. After all, Macs are just a tiny portion of Apple's revenue and fiscally speaking, one can't argue with that logic if it's true.

You simply could not be more wrong. Haswell isn't the untouchable you make it out to be my friend.

I am unclear why rampant speculation deserved a new thread where educated predictions weren't adequate?

Completely agree.
Apple isnt going to wait until next year to upgrade their best selling computers, especially since the MBA and iMAC have been updated this year. This is either down to component shortages, or a larger refresh that they want to 'announce' rather then update silently.
Either way, its happening this year - Apple cant afford not to!
