I think with the 5C, 5S, and iOS7 they've just been too sidetracked to make macs a priority. After all, Macs are just a tiny portion of Apple's revenue and fiscally speaking, one can't argue with that logic if it's true.

Sadly I've felt this to be the case since the first release of FCPX, and you can't blame a company to capitalise on profits... Expect Glencore.

I really thought we would have at least seen an update by now or an announcement for when the new rMBP would be available.

Whenever it's released there definitely will not be an announcement ahead of time. Making an announcement before availability will completely halt current sales, which isn't something Apple wants to do. Look at what just happened with the iMacs, for example: Silent update with no clues it was coming. At most the rMBP will get a mention at an event on the day it becomes available, but it also could be refreshed silently with no notice.

Anyone else agree that they should just skip Haswell at this point? It's kind of too late now. God only knows why they didn't refresh the entire Mac line this past summer.

If Apple sees the Haswell rMBP as a throwaway, then of course! Right? ;)

That's not how us consumers are thinking. We want the new machine with all the other improvements that come with it. Apple will refresh the rest of the Mac line in October. There is nothing that says they have to do it all at once.

Besides, who knows how late into 2014 Broadwell will come.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Broadwell will be in fall of next year if there are no delays. If you were super-optimistic (and maybe a little naive) you could say summer, but that's unlikely with the chip launched planned for Q3. Not everyone is in the position to just wait a year for a computer.

We've gone over this a million times, but there's nothing else to discuss so why not do it again? The significance of an upgrade is going to depend on the user. TB2 could be a big deal for some, as could faster wifi and SSDs. The power efficiency is kind of a big deal if you work away from outlets, which many people do. And if you're looking at the 13" the GPU upgrade will be massive.

I also suspect a price decrease, at least on the 15" model, but that's just based on how absurdly overpriced the 15" rMBP is. If the cMBP doesn't get refreshed it would be unreasonable to keep the only 15" model at that price.

Either:
1. Stores have too much inventories ( i still can buy 2012 rMBP from stores ... these things are not selling)
2. Perhaps Apple is waiting for March 2014 when NVIDIA launches Maxwell. The 850m should easily handle Retina graphics since it's 100% faster than the 750m.

You smoke good stuff.

lol. I was just preparing myself for the worst but hoping for the best. I've been waiting 7 months for a new laptop - my first mac - and currently using a Dell laptop that's literally being held together by butterfly clips.

I should have pulled the trigger in February, but in a way, I've learnt so much just by waiting. Earlier, I thought I would save soooo much money by buying a rMBP from Macmall even though I can get edu rate. Just realized this week (yea, I'm a slow mover) that the model numbers for MacMall's rMBPs were the 2012 systems. Even though MM advertises them as the latest.

#2 is certainly interesting, but extremely unlikely since these machines already exist (benchmarks). It also wouldn't stop them from releasing the 13", which uses the HD 5100 iGPU only.

The idea of a spec bump in spring (which usually happens anyway) replacing the (hypothetical) 750m with an 850m is certainly interesting though. This year's NVidia mobile chips are very poor options, being simple overclocks of last year's (and in the rMBP's case the 650m was already massively overclocked, so there's not a lot left to gain).

I'm sticking with the prevailing theory of limited Haswell+Iris chip supplies. Most of Apple's direct rMBP competitors are also still waiting to launch, even though we know they'd all prefer to beat Apple to release.

Someone's cruisin' for a bruisin'. :D

I'm waiting patiently. It will be released when the time is right. In the mean time my MBP is doing just fine.

This thread should be closed, as there is no further posts that add to the fully debunked thread topic. :D

Some of us aren't so lucky. My mid-2009 MBP keeps burning through hard drive cables and has a bad battery. I refuse to do another Russian roulette with a first gen, so I wait begrudgingly.

Sorry to hear of your situation. I've been there before and it's not fun. Hopefully we'll see something soon.

Even so, you really don't have much to worry about with the current MBP, or even a refurbished anymore.

True, but it seems silly to buy a year old machine when the new model should be out soon. I've only been seriously waiting for a few weeks. I was hoping to get through the semester, but it looks like that won't happen. I can borrow laptops in the mean time though.

I get the edu discount, so refurbished isn't a huge discount over new. I graduate in May, so I want to take advantage of student discounts while I can!

You would think. But announcing the new Mac Pro didn't preclude Apple from still selling the old one.

I think that's a special case. The Mac Pro was so outdated that many people had decided Apple was going to drop the product entirely, and were making changes to their work flow accordingly (in other words moving away from Apple). In this case they likely decided that they would take a larger hit in the long run from staying silent and allowing the "Mac Pro is dead" rumor to spread.

Yes. :D But Walrus is correct. Apple will not pre-announce new MBP's. They will however begin selling them the day they do.

And they will begin selling them on either:

Oct 1
Oct 8
Oct 15 <---------------- Hopefully with kick awesome event
Oct 22
Oct 29

What's so important about the 15th? Several weeks ago, I guessed that Mbp would not be released until October - just a guess based on BTS and such. Sadly, I was right. But the good news is October is only a few days away. Is this going to be one of those cases where you have to wait in line for days like the iPhone or wait a week for delivery?
