Will the Haswell rMBP be announced in September with a dGPU option?

Why?

I literately just got my rMBP last week. 15". 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 2.8GHz i7.

I don't regret it.

I don't use anything that requires open CL and only game I play mobile are indie games and Dota 2. Nothing graphics demanding.

If the Iris Pro is the same performance as gaming, with superior Open CL, the 15" isn't a DO NOT BUY. It's a "BUY IF YOU NEED ONE, CAN'T WAIT FOR ONE, OR DON'T CARE ABOUT OPEN CL PERFORMANCE"

You'll probably not get the extra hour or so in battery life. Screen will be the same. Weight and shape will probably be the same. And you won't have the new fancy OS X installed.

You just spent a good deal of money on a notebook that's been out for over a year. Of course you're going to try to convince yourself that you won't regret it once the new notebooks are released.

See the little problem there?

To the OP: you're doing the right thing by waiting. Keep it up.

I didn't realize that everyone had to be on the bleeding edge of technology to not regret purchases.

I should just return everything I buy.

There's a difference between waiting forever and always trying to be on top of technology, vs. waiting when a new model is weeks away.

Spot on. A big difference. That's why some folks around here have had their MacBooks for years, and don't regret it - because they waited for the right time to buy.

This.

It's okay to buy something when you need, but when it's just around the corner, it's not the best decision to not even see what the new model has to offer.

The only thing you lose is a few more dollars off the old one. And I would never wait, (despite desperately needing it) if I was happy with the current retinas as a product [1][2].

When you're spending about 2 grand on a laptop and are going to be using it a long time, I don't think it's wrong to wait.

You got yours and you're happy with it, excellent. :)

That's ignoring the ghosting issues etc.

You're absolutely right. And on top of that - it's one thing not to wait and see what the new model offers, but to aggressively downplay and/or trivialize the merits of the product that hasn't even come out yet - it's very telling of the buyer's insecurities.

Like everything you buy, if you need it, then get it!

If you can wait, then wait.

I'm going to say the new rMBP will be black and drop the dGPU in order to gain battery life and push more Professionals into the Mac Pro. I think at some point it may even slim down to a MBA profile.

You could be right about those first two (if by black you mean the same metal color as the 5S), but I doubt the MBA form factor one (or at least I hope they don't do it). In real-world use the MBA form factor is harder to deal with than the rMBP's more rectangular shape. The MBA basically makes a metal blade, which is awkward to pick up and just kind of unpleasant to handle in general. It's one of the reasons I returned mine (the other being that TN panel).

Yeah, if it goes black, I don't believe it will be glossy black. If the dGPU is dropped, it will most likely lead to trimming down the profile.

Apple suddenly decided to replace my laptop, so I'm sure the new ones will be out soon

Lol, certaintly the most credible rumor I've heard yet :D

I don't see why you'd think they would redesign just for removal of the dGPU this year. It is, while heavily debated still, very certain for some people that the dGPU will be removed; but not at all certain that there will be a redesign. While I think they easily could do a redesign just for removal of the dGPU, I highly doubt they'd reorganize all the internals and introduce a new design this year.

I'm not suggesting it "will" this time around, but "if" the dGPU is dropped this time, it will undoubtedly create space better suited for something else or nothing at all. Either way it requires a redesign of the board, batteries and/or case at some point.

That wasn't very nice NOR fair to say. The first updates to anything are always crap, it takes a few months to a whole couple of new gens to get it right these days.

I bought a couple of mid retinas for my nephews and will get the new one's in June as well so there.

People come to this forum for facts to help inform them, not for their egos to be stroked. I stated fact.

D-GPU? Yes on high end 15", no on low end 15" and 13".

What's your reasoning?

What's your reasoning?

Iris Pro is good. Good enough to run a retina screen pretty well. Which is why I think Apple will think it's fine for the 13" and entry 15" models. But a decent modern GPU, like a ~760M, or hopefully more like the upcoming ~9770M should be able to significantly outperform it. Therefore, still worth having.

Also, I think if Apple were going to lose the dGPU, they would have waited a while longer for the significant case redesign that came with the retina models, and just stuck the retina screen on the 'classic' body and components. Seems pointless to design a new case to take up to 90W TDP, just to drop the maximum TDP down to 50W only 16 months later.
