Will the Haswell rMBP be announced in September with a dGPU option?

Yes, holding on. Stepping away from the store.

Thanks. :D

And now you know there's a huge haswell community ready to celebrate/complain about all the new features once you buy Apple's latest pride and joy! :D

Equalling the already weak 650M isn't an achievement. I'm still crossing my fingers that the haswell power savings gives them headroom to throw a 2GB 765M in there.

OMG, I do hope Cook blesses the MBP with this. But chances are slim. I see this year's MBA and MBP line as a painful transition but hopefully we'll get better gains with Broadwell. Sigh, and they're still gonna call this a 'Pro'. I wonder what's the roadmap for the MBP processing power 5 years from now as Intel continues its vision of 'thinner tablet-esque form factors and 5000-hour battery life plus stunning displays'. We're actually taking a peek now with what's gonna happen.

these are great speakers..

this is a great lecture about those glowing "apple" boxes:

this is comedic but oh so sweet and oh so true:

harmless educational entertainment while we wait for something "kinda new" but "kinda not" to come out with a higher price tag than ever.

enjoy the spending, i'm saving my 5000 dollars for another generation - perhaps Oct.2014 i'll buy.

If the Haswell beats expectations with or without a dGPU, make sure to come back and post about that "painful transition."

Chill. I never say my posts are set in stone. But the current MBA's power is something we can't take for granted. And can you elaborate on your statement "Haswell beats expectations"? You're basically attacking my statement thinking I'm saying Haswell will NOT beat expectations? Where'd you get that idea, kid? We're in the same boat and I'm also hoping the Haswell units are worth the 2 grand I'll be spending in.

You seem to be so emotionally invested in this. Calm down and don't have a nervous breakdown when you read the words 'painful transition' which seems to have a very traumatic meaning for you.

"Kid?" Really? I guess at this point it doesn't matter if I'm a kid or not. ;) Your original post makes the kind of assumptions that only the top few at Apple know for sure. The armchair board members around this forum sometimes get a little cliché , that's all. :)

Having an iGPU with better battery life is better than having iGPU + dGPU with the same or worse battery life.

You can allocated system ram to be used by the iGPU making it more powerful. Irish Pro has less of a memory bottleneck compared to the 4000. If 16GB is standardized (probably not), then you could allocate 6GB of system memory plus the embedded RAM.

We're more than likely not getting a dGPU. If not having a dGPU worries you, then I guess you might not ever buy a rMBP again.

If the new rMBP came with an Irish Pro, there will be portability issues. :D

Tiny forward steps, enough to keep us all in line hoping, dreaming and pretending...

Keeps us pretending something so great will come but meh..

Well it is like this people who consume great amounts, as the great lecture about mentioned above link provided:

"...we need free media, we need free software, free hardware and free bandwidth."

"..inside those apple glowing boxes are free software - tailored to give him control..."

we are going backwards consumers, they built this company on the values of no sharing, no self modifiable anything, so the more they "make more minimal" and stream line, as long as they don't regard a niche market for user upgradable and such, the more we are being manipulated, all we do is give our money and play a few games they created and manipulate a few images for face-hook. Wow, such great technology worth hoping for yeah?

Sitting under a few trees a day having an apple a day renders amazing brain power like no other super computer. Try it folks.

I am waiting for my shipment of their last refurbished 17"MBPs, my nephews and I are going to modify them and make them into amazing tools which works for us alone. Then we're gifting them to new immigrant kids in their schools to build free software for other kids in other schools, teach each other and themselves how to get into the technology rather than be consumed by it.

The so called evolutions of these machines we discuss on here are no longer tools. I'm not going to be surprised nor delighted this fall with this company.

That's very profound. But treat it as a tool that you don't have to depend on and own forever. Treat it as a rental, a fleeting sprite in this game of life that stays with you for a short period, you use it to make this journey for as long as the blade is sharp and then you move on.

It is an expensive tool, and whether or not it provides value to you is for you to decide. There are many cheaper ways to get the same things done (except perhaps iOS development, but we're trying to avoid Apple products/software in this conversation since they are not 'free'). You can write code on an $200 netbook.

The irony of your speech is that you want to be chained to your 17" MBP for as long as possible, instead of treating it as a tool and letting it go after the period for 'planned obsolescence' has expired. By giving away macbooks for these kids to use, you're supporting the company and promoting the ecosystem which you yourself are trying hard to 'counter.'

I do not know if you see the point I'm trying to make, but I'm not entirely sure of the one you're trying to make.

Yes, I'm bored. :D

This is what I'm looking for - thank you!

Thank you - thank you - really this is great I'm happy to know there are thinkers and feelers out there. I appreciate this. The kids I am working with are really cool - they take the 17"mbps apart and work on so many ways to modify, rework their own software etc into them. To them the late 2011 17"MBP represents also the last of the user upgradable / changeable notebook by this company which I don't like to name often because I'm not paid each time I type their name, so, yah, it is a project within the context of being tied to this technology. Ultimately all these machines go into their science fair as example of how the technology can be manipulated to serve all and how the technology has been manipulating us, keeping us in the dark as well.

These are incredible young people I work with every day and in my family who really love to make people think differently even if it is contradictory it is part of the complexity and beautiful - infinite possibilities of their young minds too.

I really appreciated your input.

Thank you.

Well, the good news is, technology stops for no one. Which means if Apple stops making notebooks which makes it hard for these kids to tinker about on, there will be other hardware to play around with.

Right from other laptops to Raspberry Pi's, Beaglebone Black's, Arduino's, TI MSP430's and so on.

That's the beauty of technology. For as much as we like to worry about technology being locked down and being controlled by someone, its natural course is to be free, and never be limited to something or someone. There are hundreds of platforms to accomplish similar things and if there isn't one in specific, you can come up with one.

In the short term upgradeability of Apple products may break your process(es), but there will always be another way.

Thank you there are so many others - great reminder, the kids are out there now in the yard tinkering with all the mentioned above tools you listed, they have other aunties and uncles too besides this auntie typing, observing and joyfully engaged with them. Grateful to have these kids in my life reminding me of the wonder of molding technology for use rather than abuse.

Great world today, beautiful sunshine and wonderful laughter. Great information and insights I really appreciate you.

That sounds great! Wish them all the best. Nice little chat. :)

Wait a sec in past events has apple called out the dGPU details? Or is it something that we find out after tech media do their "hands on" articles etc.

I'm getting desperate here guys. I'm about to pull the trigger on the 15" rMBP (Again). Talk me out of it, please. It's my only chance.

DON'T DO IT.

Seriously, you'll be slapping yourself just a few short weeks from now.

Why?

I literately just got my rMBP last week. 15". 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 2.8GHz i7.

I don't regret it.

I don't use anything that requires open CL and only game I play mobile are indie games and Dota 2. Nothing graphics demanding.

If the Iris Pro is the same performance as gaming, with superior Open CL, the 15" isn't a DO NOT BUY. It's a "BUY IF YOU NEED ONE, CAN'T WAIT FOR ONE, OR DON'T CARE ABOUT OPEN CL PERFORMANCE"

You'll probably not get the extra hour or so in battery life. Screen will be the same. Weight and shape will probably be the same. And you won't have the new fancy OS X installed.
