I also went to see the laptops at BestBuy and I was not impress with the body. It felt uncomfortable to pick up, almost sharp my fingers because of the side air vents it has.
Im not sure how you people use your laptop but I am always picking up mine and moving from side to side. Also battery might not be as good as my normal macbook pro M1.
Might wait for the M2 macbook

I saw the new M1 MacBook Pros - "16" and 14" tonight. The body is squared off and thicker than my 2013 MBP. WHAT??? And it feels cheap, not like the former Airplane Grade aluminum. You knock on it and it feels hollow-ish. And the bottom feet are harder than previous models, almost like a cell phone case that is hard plastic and sort of hits the desk too hard. I am pretty disappointed. Why, Apple, Why? I waited years to upgrade. Almost tempted to get a deal on an older one now.
Where is the down button?

I am sure you will be able to find a lot of deals soon when people get their hands on these new models. The 2019 Intel should suit you fine. It’s the thinnest laptop in recent times coming out of Apple in their “Pro” line.

Though, they have MacBook Air to keep you satisfied as well.

I will take the new form factor over any gaudy horrible gaming laptop with bling rgb crap in it. And those are the only windows laptops that can even try to come close in performance to the stylish new new MacBook pro M1s!
Every time I see those RGB lights on a computer it makes me want to ????

The traffic lights are a reminder to get up and dance. Nothing else. It’s the Windows way to get us to stand and move. Apple being Apple, it wants us to buy the watch for those reminders. With windows, those reminders are in our faces every minute.

I actually wish it was more squared... The razer blade advanced is my favorite laptop design and it seems like the new macbook is heavily inspired by it.

if we think the new MacBooks seem boxy and dull,
wait until you use OS Monterey!

Viva los Mojavians!

The older ones are great. You can fry eggs on them.

Can you please refrain from spewing untruths about the thickness of these machines. Please inform yourself first:

Thickness:
2013 13" rMBP 1.8cm
2021 14: M1 MBP 1.55cm
2013 15" rMBP 1.8cm
2021 16" M1 MBP 1.68cm

No offense and we each have our own priorities, but some of the complaints about the new MacBook Pros are just irrational and hollow. They aren't perfect, but as the saying goes, "let's not make perfect the enemy of great" or something like that. Apple addressed so many complaints in the previous 2016-2020 generation of the MacBook Pros while delivering an overwhelmingly outstanding product. Probably the biggest upgrade to the MacBook Pros in my memory.

So I think OP has a point about the 'feel', in that the bottom and lid don't feel quite as solid as the prior models. The bottom in particular does feel a little thin and tinny.

However, I think this is pretty trivial stuff - the thickness/materials might not feel quite as nice as prior models, but are absolutely fine.

Unless these machines turn out to suffer from certain reliability issues which have yet to rear their heads, I truly believe in years to come these machines will be viewed as the Macbook Pro's return to greatness. Hopefully reliability issues surrounding their predecessors' awful keyboards/display cable/thermals are history. Certainly the early signs are good.

The 2013 MacBook Pro was 0,71" or more. The 2021 MacBook Pro is 0,66" or less. I donˋt know, what world you're coming from, but in mine, less is definitely less and not more than more.
Yeah, the 14" is only .61 (1.55cm) thick. And the 13" M1 is actually a hair thicker at .61 (1.56cm).

I guess the design is just making it look thicker.

I love the squared edges. Definitely has a retro vibe and I totally dig it!

It's barely thicker than the old design in reality, I personally think it looks nicer, and it's more comfortable to pick up and move around due to less sharp edges. More fool you if you don't like it, cuz I'm a lot happier with mine than the last gen macbooks.

If you want an anally thin laptop over anything else (like performance and actual usability), buy a hamstrung Air. ??‍♂️

I like the retro/ industrial design made for professional work. I don’t want a $3500 laptop that bends in a stiff breeze.

I was going to ask if you complain much, but seeing from your recent (and limited) post history, I was able to answer that for myself. I mean really. Complaining about the feet???

I agree it’s not the sexiest design. But it’s such a better machine overall compared to the last several years (with perhaps the exception of the MBA) that I was able to quickly move past what I consider to be a trivial detail.
