If the actual iFold looks that wide and short, it will be an easy pass for me and others who prefer tall and thin display, so Samsung Trifold will be and is a definite choice for me when it arrives. However, some people may like that wide and short style. So, it is good for them. We will see how the actual turns out.

Between an iPhone Fold or an iPhone Flip, if they were my only two choices, I think I'd rather have an iPhone Flip that is similar to the Moto Razr Ultra design. Smaller in pocket and I don't need something close to the size of an iPad Mini to replace my phone.

I’m really not sold on the idea of a folding phone. I still question their longevity, which is important to me as my phones are passed down to my wife & kids, so are often in use for years.

If this actually is the design, I’m even more convinced it’s not for me. I wouldn’t mind a clamshell design, much like the old Moto Razor. I’d still need to be convinced of its practicality though. I just don’t see the use case for this device. It’ll likely still be cheaper to buy a separate iPad mini & iPhone.
don't think there is anyone going to be forcing you to get a folding phone. If it does not work for you then you don't have to buy one.

The convince of having a phone and tablet in one is only needing to carry one device. I use my iPad at work and have my iPhone with me all the time. I could save one device in my bag and have only one device to charge. I could use it as a phone and I could use it as as I need to use a tablet. It is not for everyone but it certainly is more efficient for those who use a phone and a tablet.

remember when tv makers wanted to push 3d. foldables are the same.
The odds that I will ever want a foldable smartphone are damn near zero but I would not put it in the same league as 3d TV. 3D TV had two big hurdles to overcome:

1. Lack of content
2. Users need to wear a peripheral on their faces, which is complicated further if you need eyeglasses.

I place AVP in the same category as 3D TV for obvious reasons, but a foldable is just another form factor and down to individual preference. I don’t see foldables becoming the majority of the market because anyone with multiple types of devices (phone, tablet, computer) is already accustomed to what each is well suited for and most wont’t want the compromises presented by the “2-4-1” device.

Have any good 3D printer recommendations that work well on Mac? I’ve been looking into the Bambu.
I’m aware of Bambu but have no experience or opinion of them.

I have a Creality Ender 5 Pro. It’s several years old at this point. I selected it for its A) relatively large base and height - affording larger prints than most (at the time) - and B) cost. It’s been a great introduction into 3D printing. I still marvel at the ability to print solutions.

As far as being Mac-friendly: mine is, but I’ve not connected it to my Mac. I simply move a micro SSD card between both devices.

Anyway, that industry is advancing so quickly, I’m sure there are better models/values out there. My advice: get in on whatever you can afford to get started, then grow from there. Have fun!

Nice to know I’m not the only crazy one with a 3D printer!
iZac was nice enough to get me his files months ago and I designed my own and printed it too. Excess filament to use and curiosity of how it felt in hand!
I didn’t want to figure out the whole folding part so I printed out both versions and stopped there.
I’ll have to print this actually folding upgrade soon!

I've been advocating for this since the spring. Yes please.
Same. iBook would really help to set it apart from “normal” iPhones too. I really hope they don’t go for something lame like “iPhone Fold”

You do?! I certainly don’t remember people arguing over them BEFORE they were released.
I distinctly remember people arguing over leaked images of the G4 Cube the night before it was released saying it wasn't something Apple would make. They said the iPod was just a toy and not something Apple would focus their attention on before it came out. The iPhone was a virtual certainty but the formfactor was a big point of debate. Some people said a touch screen without a physical keyboard was something that wasn't Apple like. Even iOS... they said the flat design that iOS 7 started was not Apple like because at the time it was most closely associated with Windows Metro interface. Even going back to pre-iTunes store, I remember people arguing that Apple would never want to get into selling music online.

Point is, anyone claims something isn't what Apple would do doesn't know what they are talking about.

Thank you for that... the scale of it is way better than I expected.

Apple is working on a foldable iPhone that's set to come out in September 2026, and rumors suggest that it will have a display that's around 5.4 inches when closed and 7.6 inches when open. Exact measurements vary based on rumors, but one 3D designer has created a mockup based on what we've heard so far.

iphone-fold-3d-print.jpg

On MakerWorld, a user named Subsy has uploaded a 1:1 iPhone Fold replica (via Macworld), which can be 3D printed to give you a rough idea of the size of the upcoming foldable iPhone.

Subsy claims that the model is "based on recently leaked CAD drawings of the iPhone Fold," but there haven't been actual CAD leaks to our knowledge. There were reports of CAD drawings earlier this month, but it turns out those drawings were concept drawings and renders created by MacRumors reader iZac back in May.

iZac designed a mockup with a 5.5-inch display when the device is closed, and 7.76 inches when open. That's in line with the multiple rumors that we've heard, but so far, we don't have exact dimensions.

While you can now print a 3D mockup of iZac's concept, the design isn't based on an actual CAD render. It's likely somewhat similar to what the iPhone Fold will look like in terms of size, but Apple's design for the cameras and the hinge will probably differ quite a bit.

If you have a 3D printer, it's a useful way to get something that's close to the size of the iPhone Fold so you can see how it compares to your existing iPhone. We'll likely see more accurate CAD renders and dummy models starting to surface in the first months of 2026.

Strangely, I’m getting Newton vibes.. (!)

I don't have a 3d printer

This form factor seems like a toy

I've been really excited about this device, however, after printing it out the format presented here might prevent me from getting one. It feels too wide in my pocket. When opened it is nice. Ultimately it may come down to the cameras they put inside.

I am slowly warming up to foldables As I have tired iPad Minis for work and they sucked badly for that as they are still large and unmanageable and have to keep an eye on and not forget where you put it down. That's why I go with an iPhone Pro Max instead. Far better as I hand hold it with one hand and put in in my pocket. This solves the iPad mini problem. I have always tried to like the iPad Mini but always hated them anyway. Useless junk. This is a far better solution.

It looks like a device I would like to try for sure, although there is one thing that I am concerned of: UI inside the tablet screen. I am not fan of iOS when it comes to big screen sizes at all (unless they come up with new tricks similar to iPad OS' multitasking capabilities...)
