The issue is that Apple keeps changing the game plan for iPhone launches. 4s had in-store reservations. 5 had pre-orders. 5S did not. 6 did. 6s launched the iPhone Upgrade Program. 7 had pre-orders but IUP upgrades required in-store visits.

Every year the “best” strategy for getting a launch day iPhone is different. Turned out yesterday the best strategy was to go to an Apple Store during the middle of the day. No camping or long waits required, or getting up in the middle of the night to place a pre-order required.

Apple’s own press release implied that the X would be in short supply as it told people to arrive early. They could have been more transparent about the real supply situation, though it was clear from the earnings forecast on Thursday that they had more than what the analysts were expecting.

I really don't know what to do guys, I don't know if I still let the order delivery for December 10 or cancel and buy it there at the store when I arrive at the USA.

December 10, do you think there will be iphoneX available to pickup store? I'm asking because here in Brazil we will pay IOF (tax) to buy with an internacional credit card
 
I tried to cancel my “order in progress” and kept getting an error that item is ineligible to cancel. There is stock at all 3 stores within an hour of me. I am in the upgrade program. I called and was advised they have to cancel my order and allow 24 hours for the loan to “reset” before I can get a phone at a store and then stock isn’t guaranteed. Essentially I’m stuck with waiting until it ships or paying in full and not using the upgrade program. Such bs. I tried to not complain about my ship date and preorder issues but it’s unbelievable that I can’t get a phone in Store instead now without letting my online order be cancelled for 24 hours. Anyone else had this issue?

Were you in the upgrade program? I don’t think it should matter. I used the apple loan program and was able to cancel almost immediately. I was never told that!
 
I canceled 3 preorders online. I think you have to go to Apple.com you can’t cancel on the Apple app
Bizarre, I tried it both on the website and in the app and got nowhere. I opened up the online chat, though, and they got it sorted out.

No one knows for sure but given that supplies were plentiful yesterday I’m guessing yes you’ll be able to find it somewhere, probably at an Apple Store. The official SIM-free should be available by then, too. Where are you going to be?
 
Was driving home yesterday and on a whim, decided to stop at Target and they had a 256GB in stock, so I grabbed it and cancelled one of my orders. This morning, the Apple Store in Chicago was showing devices in stock, so I cancelled my other and drive and picked it up. Sure beats the three week wait I had via Apple and ATT Next.

Yeah I am in the upgrade program. I should’ve just taken my chances and went to the store without preordering. Kinda annoyed I woke up in the middle of the night to preorder now lol.

found a store that is about 26 miles away and did a store pick up...Will cancel my 17th-24th order....Crazy how we are just waiting here for pre order.... Plus i saved 20 bucks cause of tax diff at this store vs my pre order......20 will be for gas or a case.....

Try clicking on the text "Cancel Order" to cancel, the button didn't work for me either.
 
just canceled my order, 2 min later got my cancelation email, went online selected one found it in stock near by, and got it... got my reservation today at 4pm!! :D happy i didnt wait till the 17-24th

So those of you with the Apple Upgrade Program (with a Citizen One Loan) how are you all cancelling your orders to reserve one at a store for pick up? I still see the following:

"Your item may be ineligible for cancelation online. Contact an Apple Online Store representative at 1-800-MY-APPLE for further assistance."

Have you all called and had everything reset quick enough? I noticed someone above said it could take 24 hours.

Was yours prepping for shipping i think if its still pending or “your order will be available soon” you shouldn’t have any problems .. im on the iup and had no problems i even got en email of the loan cancellation for my pre order

The status of my order is just "order in progress.." And I got the above mentioned message when I try to cancel.
 
Picked up in store. Was a cluster F... at the apple store... Had to wait a bit to pick up the phone so was in line for about an hour. Long lines still for people waiting but they still had inventory when I left which was around noon.. They seem to be getting plenty of phones sent to the stores.. Phone is a lot smaller than i expected but feels really good in the hand. Will take some getting used to. Good luck to those still waiting hopefully either shipping dates move or you are able to get one in store.
 
Doesn't it always say "soon" when viewed within he Apple Store app? On Apple.com it still just says order in progress.
Im not completely sure as this is my first time preordering from there. Im getting my hopes up for a bump in shipping due to all the cancellations
 
Well, it appears my phone didn’t make this morning’s flight out of Incheon. Next flight is in 6 hours or so. Fingers crossed it makes that flight.

Still not sure -- lack of scans and phones already there or what?

Anyway there is the UPS67 now on way to Anchorage and then to Louisville by midnight CDT (actually CST shortly after that)

One would think eventually ours will show in Louisville with one of these or another. I sure hope it does not get to delivers on 6th and no info just waiting all day like some have experienced in some years...

time will tell.

Had the same thing. Also the IUP. Don’t click the big cancel button. Click the smaller cancel link above that. That’s what did it for me.
