I have W499 and I haven’t seen $h#+
Even though I managed to get one for in store pickup on Saturday (ordered it at 8 am), near me they sure didn't overstock. I haven't seen stock at any of the stores within an hour or two of me since late morning Saturday.

Yes, it is.
With my experience, it was around 11 am on Sunday, just when the local apple stores here opened. I was settled to wait for Nov 17 - 24 delivery, until the configuration I wanted appeared as available at the Stanford Apple Store in Palo Alto. I cancelled my Nov 17 order, waited for about 5 minutes, and then purchased from the Stanford store at around 11:30 am. What's interesting was seeing available phones (256 GB) at other stores in the area. I think you just need to check just when the stores open. Perhaps I got lucky, it was right after the daylight savings time changes. Maybe people sleeping?
Except this is the exact opposite of "How it has been".
Never have I seen Apple ignoring first come, first serve matra and bumping specific types of orders (IUP).
Never have I seen Apple flooding retail channels with inventory while pre-orders sit collecting dust.
This is new. Who can say this is how it will be next year?

Spoke to Apple again this morning and they swear in their apology 101 BS that they have no control over who gets their order when and it is First come first serve when i advised that was completely bogus because all of the IUP ppl are getting their, I was hung up on.
IUP order with an original ship date of "Delivers 17 Nov, 2017 - 24 Nov, 2017" then bumped to "Delivers 14 Nov, 2017 - 21 Nov, 2017". I still have OIP and no CC charge or any movement since I pre ordered on 10/27/17.
No iPhone X's in stock in the SF/Bay Area location's but will probably cancel my pre order if one becomes available. Pretty disappointing with this year with pre orders.
Still stuck with my iPhone 6.
First time with IUP as well.

Is it sad that I thought the same thing too when I saw the pics? On the other hand maybe thats why some of us haven't seen any movement, INGEN is running the operation.

That's bs about first come first serve... I order 3 days before someone else and I'm stuck at 11/21 where a person 3 days after me orders they have a tracking number for a order that shipped..
Just a lil FYI there are zero phones in stores and when I visited Apple today to pick up my wireless charger the rep I dealt with told me there may not be phones in the stores all week?
I can see Apple doing this, even if they have stock, they will leave the stores dry to AGAIN build up demand...whatever at this point...lol

Yes, you can upgrade your iPhone every year, after 50% of the payments have been made, just like with the IUP plan.
