I don't think anyone can say whether 13 Mini sales are higher this time around as there is zero actual sales data out there. I agree that the reviews are more positive this time around, but until we start seeing more analytics of device usage who knows if it's selling well or not.
I know right it’s a select few on Reddit and macrumors and YouTubers Loving the mini. Hell youtubers were singing the mini praises and it still bomb. I’m a fan of the 12 mini and its a keeper but I can’t deny the fact when you put a 13 and the battery last 2 days thats pretty amazing for 100 dollar difference. the mainstream people who aren’t on Macrumors or Reddit buy phones every 3-4 years and the 13 and 13 pro are compelling devices when you add up cost to screen ratio and battery life which are what people really look for. Reminds me of the manual vs automatic argument. The die hard (and I’m one of them) swear to the driving dynamics of manual cars. Yet manuals are a dying bread that’ll be extinct when electric cars are the norm.

I love my 13 mini and I got the 256 GB version to last me two years, since this is the PERFECT phone for me, and also because it's probably not coming back next year.

For reference, here is my input on the 13 mini reproduced from here:

I got myself a 13 mini today, will give the 12 mini to my mother.

Initial impressions:

1. SCREEN is noticeably cooler than the 12 mini, which was on the warmer side. This screen (with True Tone) is now as great as my 8.
- I checked pure black and grey gradients, the 12 mini showed sort of a reddish band to the left, this 13 mini is neat and flat grey.

2. WEIGHT is noticeably more than 12 mini, but is less than the outgoing 8. I would have liked the weight of the 12 mini, but am totally okay with this as well. Feels well-weighted in the hand.

Speaking of in the hand...

Tried a 13. Loved it, it did not feel as large as it did when I first saw it. But - something unacceptable for me about it:
The resolution is a little larger than the mini, and this forum is rendered exactly the same as on the mini, except for 1 or 2 extra lines of text vertically. But, the 12/ 13 devices are wider, and Apple is being lazy in not making Safari take advantage of that width on the 13 as against the mini. My Android OnePlus Nord2 is sort of a similar width as the 13, and that device renders web pages in a more acceptable fashion. The 13 only looks like a scaled version of mini but with 2 extra lines of text at the bottom. USD 200 for that (in my country)? No way. So, the 13 was out. I want to say here that if Tim's Apple was not lazy and had taken advantage of the extra width of the 13 as against the mini, I would have booked a 13 (here we are booking them, they are not available over the counter for some reason, maybe chip shortage affecting supplies?).

3. BATTERY LIFE is not something I can comment on or about right now, considering it is only a few hours I have had the phone with me and I have just charged it up to 100. Will charge it back to 100 before unplugging and sleeping, to see how much of an overnight drain did I get with this. Sure, the true drain would be reflected in some days, but I should be able to get some idea about the drift.

4. COLOR - I loved the White 12 mini, and I love the Starlight 13 mini more.

All said and done, I think this is a great device and I see no reason to take the larger device, especially when Apple does not take advantage of the extra width. I have taken the Starlight and I am thinking of going commando at home and putting on a case only when I go out (ordered a Golden Brown leather case and contemplating green and cherry too! I am going crazy with the case colours this time for the first time in my life, and I will have to sit and talk myself out of the 2 extra colours - each one costs USD 89 here). I will miss the Saddle Brown profusely.

Here is a photo of my 13 mini in Starlight along with the 12 mini in white. In comparison, the 12 mini looks pinkish. Though the camera system of the 12 mini looks slightly golden in some light and along with Saddle Brown case I loved it. Yet to see how the Golden Brown and Starlight combination looks. The case in the image is Saddle Brown for the 12 mini. While the button positions are same for 12 mini and 13 mini, the camera square is larger and does not fit in the 12 mini case.

Is the assumption that startlight hides fingerprints more than the rest of the colors right?

Is the assumption that startlight hides fingerprints more than the rest of the colors right?

I can't be sure as I do not see fingerprints obscenely on the 12 mini (white) either unless they are at a convenient angle or I am looking for them. Starlight would behave similarly, being an extremely light color.

It can’t do that much more… telephoto lens, bigger battery and a screen refresh rate that most won’t even notice or care about.

Fundamentally it’s the same thing.
What are your thoughts for people who want a bit more versatility in their photography but don't want to get the pro- is something like a Sandmarc or Moment telephoto lens something that is a good alternative?
Examples please… as I have used both. The distance is small. Using the main wide camera in decent light, there’s next to zero difference.

Plenty of examples online, videos as well as two well known photographers on YouTube who actually rate the mini as much as the pro models.
Exactly- the standard lens on the Mini is not any different than the one on the Pro. The only leg up the pro has is of course the tele lens, and the slightly upgraded ultrawide that can take macro photos.

Currently have 12 Mini 256gb. Love it. Tried out the 13 Pro Max 256gb. Felt like a Jitterbug. Returned it. Going with 13 Mini 256gb. End of story. MINI FOREVER!!

Can you elaborate on the 13 Pro Max feeling like a jitterbug? Just too big, or what?

I am a 12 Mini owner and loving the size, but I want to upgrade- but I am literally back and forth between 13 Mini or 13 Pro.... I get $300 off from my carrier, so both are a great deal- I want some of the features of the pro (tele lens and macro mostly, but possibly also the better screen that according to notebookcheck, may not bother the eyes of anyone sensitive to the PWM flicker).... but, the 13 Mini is an amazing device in that great form factor.

Can confirm existence of panel gaps on 13 mini.

beginning with signal bar through earpiece and down till the SIM tray.

Return it, mine has zero gaps and is consistent all the way around, every other 13 mini I’ve seen has also been the same.

There are some things I must consider before thinking of returning and replacing:

1. Gaps aren’t visible in an obscene way
2. Display is nice and uniform
3. There is no Starlight 128 mini available anywhere within the 100 km of my place. This makes me think that replacement might take time to arrive.

With this in mind, I am thinking to not bother. Sure, if these were any wider, they’d have looked bad and I’d have had to get a replacement.

iPhone 13 mini sales have been a lot higher than the 12 mini I would say, reviews etc have all been singing its praises. When the 12 mini was released it was delayed, people are impatient and ordered either the regular or pro models hence there are so many who had the larger devices last year and are now getting the 13 mini at the first available opportunity.

Every third post in this forum, on Reddit etc are about the 13 mini, people are finally realising how good it is and that it caters for their needs much better than the heavier/larger offerings.
Even if it's true that the 13 mini has better sales... I'm not sure that'll matter. The iPhone is a juggernaut, Apple plans things out years ahead. It's entirely possible they already decided to not make another mini phone and the 13 was just down to inertia in their pipeline. In which case unless the 13 mini has far and away better than their estimates, might not make a difference if they've been functioning for months under the assumption there's not another one.

That’s true, but the reports of the mini going away are literally just that, reports. The leakers who have suggested this, are ones who have patchy histories. So this could be wrong as well, will have to wait and see.

Definitely, but I give more credence to the "the 13 mini will be the last mini phone"-type reports from months ago over the sort of "Apple is still trying to figure out this tech on their shipping phone six months out"-type reports (which are plainly garbage, or at best months out of date by the time they reach us.) Apple does plan stuff like this out years in advance because that's what it takes.

With that said, I will hope against all hope it's not true and I can grab a 14 mini next year and return contentedly to the world of small phones (sometimes I pull out the old 4S and wish I could get that machine back just with an all-screen design and modern internals...)

Probably apple statisticians are calculating the chances that 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max will yield better overall revenues, even if it hits the Pro Max sales alone. Currently people wanting the biggest have to the premium which drives Pro Max sales.

IMO, the ideal lineup would be:

- Updated SE
- Pro Mini
- Pro
- Pro Max

The current non-pro phones make absolutely no sense. The prices are too close to the pro phones to begin with. Especially, when Apple is charging an additional $30 if you buy an unlocked non-pro phone. In addition, why does someone currently have to choose to have an inferior phone just because they don’t want size and weight?

I am getting a bit of a 13mini itch NGL.

On 12 Pro still at the moment
If you are already on a 6.1" Pro then i would say that 13 mini is a major downsize that needs to be thought twice.
I switched from 12 mini to regular 13 and feel that i was losing so much by going with the mini in terms of the screen and info absorption.
Before, instagram gave me just the sense of the whole picture(my wife walking in a party store). Right now, i can see more details on the photo/video(party store: small object in the video turned out to be a police cap for Halloween).
Overall, experience with info consumption goes much easier on the eyes/brain with 6.1 inch iPhone 13.

Went from a 12PM to a 13 mini and while yes you lose a little screen but the portability more than makes up for it. I have not regretted selling my 12PM. If I need media consumption I'll use my iPad or MBA. Obviously everyone's use case varies but the 13 mini is a heavy weight in a small form factor.

Looking at it the other way, all the usual reviews from a lot of outlets this year pretty much said "buy the regular phone, because the Pro isn't really worth it for most people."

People will always buy the cheaper phones because they're cheaper, because they've got more colors, because they're cheaper. Especially outside of the US where Apple products tend to be more expensive to much more expensive, that "too close" price makes the Pro phones outrageously-priced.

Scratch it and go ahead. It is a fantastic device if you like the size. People will be unhappy with the battery life of their Pro Max if they start comparing it with the just-announced 16" MBP's battery life. The 13 mini's is just fine.

I have the 12 pro and bought a 13 mini (still waiting delivery). I used my gfs 13 mini for a week and I found the difference in screen size to be pretty negligible. You adjust very quickly. I wouldn't sway away from it just from the difference in screen size. You could always just order one and return it if you don't like it. Just imo.

Yeah, that is the beauty of having 7 billion people on this Earth with different view angles. So we put our stories here together and they reflect different aspects of the shift from 6.1" to mini size.
I am from the both camps: back in time i switched huge(the biggest) androind phone to the iphone se1. At that time i felt all the beauty of downshifting.
Right now it is working the other way around. It all depends on what state of life you are in.
