Wow I didn’t know there was such a significant difference! That’s fantastic. I didn’t want to upgrade this year but the fact this is the last year for this form factor is forcing my hand.
I'm hoping against all odds it's not the end (hell, if they just made it a "pro" model for $899 I'd happily buy it, especially since it would come with fewer compromises theoretically.) But if it is the last of its kind, I'll pick up a 13 mini for cheaper next year.

I'm definitely thinking about it. I miss the size of the X/11 Pro - the size if the 12 Pro is just a bit too big for my liking.
I have had the iPhone 12 Pro for a year and have thought the same ever since upgrading from the 11 Pro. My only hesitation is will I miss the telephoto camera on the 12 Pro or if I got the 13 Pro.

I love the iPhone 13 mini.

I got the Midnight iPhone Mini 13 512GB and it's fantastic. I forgot since iPhone 5s days that a mobile phone used to be a pocketable gadget.

For my use case and preferences, something that holds photo library, good camera, complete music collection and has plenty of storage to spare in the small footprint is absolutely brilliant. The iPhone mini really feels like a continuation of the original vision as opposed to the phablet direction. Don't get me wrong, I love my 8+ and 11 pro, but since moving to the mini I've brought my content consumption back to the computer or iPad and used the phone for communicating or listening to music. I'm actually enjoying the 'mini' portability so much that I'm consider skipping the M1 iPad Pro and getting the one-hander approved iPad Mini and this upcoming 16 inch MBP for big screen portability.

The battery life on iPhone 13 mini is definitely noticeably smaller than those bigger phones because of course it is physically smaller. But with my adjusted device use, this hasn't caused an issue. I do have the MagSafe battery coming, will see what that's like (have read little about it admittedly).

I just hope they keep the mini in the line long term. Anyone who's considering the mini for the portability and one handed use - go for it, you won't be disappointed (and with enough sales maybe they'll retain in for the 14 line!). I think I will keep my 13 mini until Apple release a foldable that folds down into an easily pocketable footprint.

I have the 12 mini and the iPad mini 6. I love the combo. Portability when I need it outside the house, and big screen with pencil when necessary.

Slightly baffled really that anyone who doesn't have a specific use-case for a big Pro phone would go for the regular 13 over the mini.

I have a feeling that about 80 percent of the time, it’s just what’s called today as Fear Of Missing Out that is making people opt for the highest spec device. Also, because it’s the highest spec device, giving some ego boost, aided heavily by Apple’s marketing that’s so good at raiding their wallets.

Sometimes, after using these ‘Pro’ and ‘Maximum Pro’ devices, their bodies tell them to stick the ego where it belongs and grab the mini and enjoy it. Sometimes, their eyes win over the weight the hands need to bear holding the larger sizes. Sometimes, people know what’s going to work for them and it isn’t just some desire. But these are the 20 percent, buying with full awareness of what they need and why.

…since moving to the mini I've brought my content consumption back to the computer or iPad and used the phone for communicating or listening to music.

That is how it is supposed to be.

- use the small phone for quick communication and everything else IF desired

- switch to something larger if you want to read for longer and need more breathing space while reading, like an iPad (11, maybe mini) or the full-fledged computer.

The phone is incredibly capable today and that’s why people tend to use it conveniently and various uses converge easily, making people want a larger device (obviously!). But if we stick to the essence, we will have three devices (small phone, mid-level screen say iPad 11” or mini, and a larger computer screen) to cover our various use cases. Each device will be perfect for its own purpose.

By opting for a larger phablet, we just push things in the wrong direction. I hope people will begin to realise this.

Judging by the mini sales it’s trending in the other direction

iPhone 13 mini sales have been a lot higher than the 12 mini I would say, reviews etc have all been singing its praises. When the 12 mini was released it was delayed, people are impatient and ordered either the regular or pro models hence there are so many who had the larger devices last year and are now getting the 13 mini at the first available opportunity.

Every third post in this forum, on Reddit etc are about the 13 mini, people are finally realising how good it is and that it caters for their needs much better than the heavier/larger offerings.

I don't think anyone can say whether 13 Mini sales are higher this time around as there is zero actual sales data out there. I agree that the reviews are more positive this time around, but until we start seeing more analytics of device usage who knows if it's selling well or not.
