iPhone X Have you seen anyone else with an X?

This pleases me in so many ways. You have defined the reason for the iPhone X's existence. There is room in the smartphone marketplace for an upscale, luxury model and those fortunate enough to own one are made to feel special and unique. When one sees an X it makes them stop and take notice. Brilliant.

The only collateral damage to this strategy is that those who cannot afford one are left out, but thus the reason for the simultaneous release of the 8, the 7, the SE, and the plethora of used models in the wild.

Noticed many sports men aren’t into tech. Think most top stars have iPhones but bet most still only upgrade their phone every two years when their contract is up
 
Seeing an iPhone X these days still isn't quite the same experience as back in 2007 when we first-adopters of the first-generation iPhone spotted each other somewhere. At that time there were still relatively few of us, and it was truly fun to see someone else using their very distinctive new iPhone. I remember one of the first times was when I was with a friend at an aquarium in Baltimore, and as we were walking along I saw another iPhone user, each of us with our devices in our hands. We grinned at each other, recognizing kindred spirits, and that was just so neat. My friend was truly puzzled when I kept talking later about how one of the highlights of our aquarium visit was spotting another iPhone user out "in the wild". She just didn't get it......

I've seen a few fellow iPhone X users "in the wild" but I don't quite experience the same kick of joy and camaraderie that I did back in 2007 when we pioneers were forging the way for the iPhone to become the incredibly successful device it is now, when it can be seen in so many users' hands.....

Completely disagree with this notion. It’s an expensive phone but not luxury class to me. I do agree people get turned off when the price is mentioned but that’s more to do with people not wanting to spend that much on phones. For instance tell anyone to spend $1800 on a laptop they wouldn’t even flinch because hats the category price. When I bought a X it didn’t break my bank. I consider Vertu a luxury brand as it costs 10 times what my iPhone X does. In my personal opinion after using this for around a month this phone is overpriced for what it offers.

I see the most expensive Apple products in 2 places on a regular basis. Airports and college campuses. AirPods, iPhone Xs and new MacBook Pros everywhere.

If that’s what you feel that is great, but I can assure you a lot of iPhone users are snubbing it because they don’t need to spend a grand on an iPhone, not because they think it’s special. For a lot of us here and many I know it’s about appeal, not affordability. People in many cases can afford it, they just can’t justify the need. False perceptions in your case.

Suddenly I see many iPhone X around. 2 in 10 ratio I would say (including Android). It’s definitely a lot but I live in London if that makes any difference so there might be a natural bias towards iPhones.

I see what you're saying, but I certainly can speak for myself when I don't purchase an iPhone for appeal. I could absolutely care less about that, mainly being that I just have a strong appreciation for Tech and Apples ingenuity with iOS and there build quality standards. That's what I look for in an Apple product.

I meant people buy what appeals to them and often a higher price makes a product unappealing. The person I quoted buys products for other people’s benefit because he thinks observers are impressed. I was just pointing out more often than not a mobile phone rarely makes others think you are wealthy.
 
I'm in NYC and I've seen quite a few. Saw 2 just this morning on the train on my way to work. They definitely are popular here.
 
Today the X's have been all over me. At the airport I saw three, and then another four throughout the day walking around town. One dude even asked me how to restart his, so that may have been a work issued phone as opposed to one he bought himself, but still.

I never really pay that much attention to other, unknown people when out and about, but these seven people today happened to catch my eye for some reason.

Huh? I"m no celebrity -- I'm just a little old retired lady who happens to love Apple products and who has some of the latest products because I want to and can afford to do so...but at that, I'm nowhere in the category of being considered "wealthy," and my tax returns aren't a big deal. When I am out in public, unless I need to make a call or answer a call, I don't pull out my iPhone X for public viewing, and the same applies to my iPads or 2017 12" MacBook...... I don't care about impressing anyone else, I use my devices when I need to at the time I need to do so, regardless of who might be sitting or standing around watching..... Who the heck cares, anyway? If they do, there is something warped going on there...... BoltJames and Hieveryone seem to be cut out of the same cloth, more interested in appearances and putting on a show than in simply appreciating and using the devices that they can afford, regardless of where they are or who they are with, or the actual need to use the device at the time. Isn't that rather sad?

I know where I live i saw a few in highcross recently.

How does everybody else notice them? guessing the camera is the most obvious way to tell.

To my surprise I saw one person with no case. Mahrez who plays for leicester city had his on show before a game without a case too

I don’t think I could go back to the small form factor. I’m hoping they bring out an SE 2 for my wife as she hates anything larger than her current SE. I’m hoping they bring out another 4.7” iPhone this year and will consider that if the price isn’t silly. If not i’ll likely get an iPhone 8 in September when my contract is up. My iPhone 6S is pretty good still so in reality I’d only be upgrading because I want to rather than need to. It’s the best iPhone I’ve owned to date.

You sound like a normal person to me. There are lots of shallow people in this world desperate to impress others with material items to give the impression they are better than they actually are. It’s just it’s quite rare to see these people openly admitting it. We’re all here because we enjoy Apple products but I don’t agree with this moronic notion that iPhones distinguish what wealth level or class somebody is. It’s utter tripe and fantasy.

In order for a status symbol to be effective it has to be known to everyone but unattainable for most.

You’re not in a league high enough to know what a Vertu is then. ;)

They are super expensive smartphones ranging from about 5 to 20 grand. Think they’ve recently stopped manufacturing due to poor sales. They were the status symbol smartphones and everything the iPhone X isn’t. Only the rich and famous owned them.
