This is awesome news! I don't even watch a lot of programming of any sort and I already have Netflix, but I'm going to subscribe to HBO anyway because I want to show support for the idea of getting rid of the existing Cable TV model which sucks big time.

A bit of a cluster at the moment. Tried to set it up through the Apple TV, and get hung up on the "Accessing HBO Now." Downloaded the app and registered, but got an error — immediately followed by email confirmation of my registration. Tried to sign in using the login information I used to register, but I get another error message. Clicked on "Forgot password?" to try to reset it, but the promised email has not shown up.

Wait...are you describing getting HBO Now, or trying to buy an Apple Watch?

What are you talking about?

I'm not sure why they needed a separate app from HBO GO, as the content appears to be identical.

Probably just because HBO GO is tied to all the cable and satellite providers and it's available on lots of streaming platforms, whereas HBO NOW is a standalone subscription service exclusive to Apple.

I cut the cord last year, best choice ever. I watch Hulu and Netflix (and from today HBO Now), save a lot of money, and have less electronics around. I miss sports a little bit (I have MLS Live, but this year I decided to not subscribe to MLB TV) but honestly... not that much.

Live sports is the only reason I still have cable.

It's not exclusive to Apple. There's already a separate provider available on it 'Optimum'. After 3 months there will be many more.

How much of the HBO content is only live streamed vs. on demand streaming?

This is the same problem with Sling TV... If I can't stream on demand, then I'd need some sort of digital recorder to timeshift the content. :(

So close...

Cool! And I see it's already available on web browsers too. I still think, while the content is the same, it probably makes sense from an organizational standpoint to keep the two separate, since one service is tied to cable subscriptions and the other is standalone.

I wonder how many people could share a password ?
4 friends pitch in and lower it from $20 a month to $5 a month

It actually starts at $14.99 per month from what I read, so if you want $5 per month you would just need 2 friends to share with (assuming it supports multiple streams and the licensing terms allow it).

Just out of interest what speed do you get for that price.

In the UK I get 38mb for £10 so $16. I do think though the ISP's will start ramping up the prices if more people leave for net based content.

Internet service is $40 through the cable provider for me. I got tired of paying $100 for the TV service when I wasn't watching it.

Seems to be all on demand.

0% of HBOGo/Now is live streamed.

It's separate. HBOGo is for people who have HBO through their provider. This is for those of us who don't . Now we can watch all the content you've had access to for awhile now.

What I find interesting is HBO Go haven't been updated to 6 & 6 Plus resolutions. Yet, right off the bat HBO Now is updated with a whole new look. Seems to me HBO is more attracted to the cut-the-cord model..
