Lol, so you have to do X/Y/Z and then...it doesn’t work? Sorry, couldn’t resist!

So we can record glorious DV HDR on our new devices, but to play it, forget the (current..) ATV, as it wont play.

A new ATV must be coming, or else this is a kind of big omission!
Won’t make a difference, if the TV doesnt support it the tv doesn’t support it

has anyone with a C9 got this to work? And how are you airplaying from the video in the photos app? Using screen mirroring?

It doesn’t work via AirPlay, at all. You don’t get DV (the previous poster was wrong I believe...)

I have not been able to get it to work any way other than exporting the viddo from photos app, to files. Then copy it to my NAS and play on an Nvidia Shield. Crazy huh!

I would expect it to fully work with Apple tv. Maybe they will update it to support playback from iPhone?

Ok but it can work via airplay though. Go to the Dolby website and play any of the demo videos via airplay , works just fine in DV and I get the DV flag on my C9

Yep, but whatever Apple have done so far just doesn’t work. Hopefully just a software fix, but just another miss - here’s a new feature...wow....you can’t really use it yet though!

Actually iphone 12 pro and pro max are capturing 10 bit HDR with 0.7 trillions colors depth, while other phones like LG ones are doing it at 1.07 trillion. Somehow Apple got a deal with Dolby for this 8.3 profile which is just a gimmick, a super lite version of the real Dolby one and they are calling it first EVER. WELL THAT SUCKS AND IS FALSE. LG phones are doing it in 10 bit 1.07 trillion colors and also at 8K with tons of LUTS AVAILABLE built in the app. 👎 Thumbs down!
Have some citations for this?

You couldn’t make it up.... I have it playing AND triggering DV and it looks stunning to be honest....

What did I have to use? NVIDIA Shield With the latest Exeplayer (same one that is needed to play DV MKV files...)

Tried in Kodi (only works using “play using” Exoplayer) and Plex (standard plex beta on Shield)

Have you tried the tv's built-in player? No DV or HDR either?

Yep, I'll wait for a more official review of what is going on under the covers with people swinging opinions back and forth, left, right and center.
That's why is better to buy after a few weeks. I will buy the Promax probably in December, if I don't like it, I'll return it.

Not sure what problem is. For years people took 4k recordings and have never seen them in 4k on Apple TV. Did you expect different? Why? Based on what?

Maybe Apple will get to it in a few years.

For those trying to play it on LG TVs, go in the TV settings and look for extra settings regarding HDR. Maybe something is there...

How could he? LG is doing 8 bit 4:2:0 log video, which is then encoded to a 10 bit file.
He also thinks DV profile 8.4 is DV Lite, which shows again, he doesn't understand a thing. Profile 8.4 is 10 bit HLG with DV metadata encoded on top. This ensures full backward compatibility to SDR, HLG and of course Dolby Vision.

Interesting detail in this video. While the 12 Pro will shoot DV HDR video up to 4K 60fps, the regular 12 will only shoot it up to 4K 30fps.

With respect, you keep mentioning the TV’s and settings, it is nothing to do with the TV. The TV plays DV fine, it’s the way Apple have (or haven’t) implemented it.

You could always view your 4K recordings on an ATV4K. You can’t view your DV recordings, thats the problem.

Same here on an LG OLED (GX) and it does support 60fps DV so it’s not that causing problems.

Airplay to an ATV 4K, same; nothing.
Not sure if it’s already been mentioned but The Verge was saying it will work on Apple 4K ATV but you need to tweak the Dolby Vision settings on the box first.

What do they mean tweak it? If it’s what I think they mean, they mean setting DV to basically always on before you airplay? I’ll have a look and see what they are saying.
