This page says that the only thing that would be in the cloud is backups which are not only optional, but are encrypted end to end.

In other words, its only on the cloud if you want it to. Now you make a claim that says that it is not the case. So outside of the one exception that you have to opt in to, can you prove your statement correct with a cite?

Nope, I can't.

However- for how long did people say the government was listening/watching/getting information and companies denied it?

I would not be the least bit surprised (in other words- I'm CONFIDENT) any and all information is available outside of the physical phone itself.

With everything else out there, no matter how many times they say it's not and we find out otherwise, why wouldn't this be?

Don't be naive.

The odometer on my car tracks how far I drive too...I hate when my personal information is being recorded.

And no option to shut it off!

Quick! Grab some black spray paint and paint that gauge cluster!! Those pesky insurance companies have agents who will peak in windows and keep tabs on you!

Oh crap... what about OnStar?

You ever read the privacy statements for any app on any OS? Stop being so dramatic. I trust Apple, Google, Microsoft apps. On Android the app permissions are very clear. Most apps collect far more info than needed. Most don't care.

How do you disable the constant tracking of steps and movement in the health app?

Did Apple really decide to not allow you to turn the logging of your every move off?

How much I move and walk is pretty personal data and my iPhone collects it without my consent.
Though I don't share your concern try this:
Heath Data>Fitness>Steps>Share Data>Data Sources>Edit>delete All.
You will have to do this as often as needed for your concern no switch that I can find. Don't use ANY apps because all collect far more data.

So what if Apple is in talks with insurance companies? You don't have to worry about it unless you're attempting to commit insurance fraud. If insurance companies wanted to bust someone, they have P.I.'s watching a persons every move with telephoto lens cameras. Remove that tinfoil hat.

OP, maybe a mobile phone is not right for you. Perhaps stick to landlines or if you must have a mobile phone try a simple phone, not a smart phone.

I may come across as being a smart**s but I don't mean to.

It still sensitive health data and it's logged without my consent.

It makes me sick that Apple is forcing this.

Even Google doesn't collect personal health info that can be used to drive up your insurance costs. At least not yet, they may soon since Apple has so much influence. It's fascinating how Apple people will defend Apple claiming they're innocent and never sell users data, then those same people get indignant and unleash their hate on Google. The dynamic is rather predictable. Naïve is a word that comes to mind.

All smartphones no matter the platform are the best people trackers available.

& google people absolutely dont do the same correct? mhmm..also take into consideration the people out there that just want to try find some dirt on apple or google or microsoft just because.

microsoft selling ur emails & whatever else to spammers, google wants to take over the planet "they track u this, that, with this dns this & that", apple "stealing vital health data" etc..

this society..

It's completely relative, to mean that it doesn't log any actual location data at all, but rather how many times you shake the accelerometer and converts the amount of shakes into a distance.

How exactly is this considered sensitive health data? You could sit there and completely fake it be shaking the phone for a few minutes/hours and it would log all that data. It's not really "sensitive" at all. What would people do with the data? Know you like to run a lot?

Nope, I can’t.

And you want us to prove essentially a negative. If you can’t offer any proof of your claims you need to retract them.

However- for how long did people say the government was listening/watching/getting information and companies denied it?
Bad comparison. Plus ever since the Patriot act was passed, I and most people were very well aware that the government was doing all of the spying and monitoring. Apple has explicitly stated that they have no reason to do what you propose and actually put in policies to guard against that.

I would not be the least bit surprised (in other words- I'm CONFIDENT) any and all information is available outside of the physical phone itself.
OK, prove it. You made an explicit statement in the post I replied to you from:

It's all on a server somewhere.

In your own words, prove it. Show me the proof you have of this. Unless you can show that, don’t bother making a claim that you cannot substantiate.

With everything else out there, no matter how many times they say it's not and we find out otherwise, why wouldn't this be?

Apple doesn’t have a track record of secretly recording people’s data for malicious purposes. It’s all done with your explicit consent.

Don't be naive.

I am not. Do not make claims about me. I ask for proof of your claims, you admit that you don’t have any. I provided evidence of what Apple themselves claim. Outside of proving a negative (which is something I will not do), what you ask is impossible. If you can provide proof, that’s great. But put up or pipe down.

ETA:

So what if Apple is in talks with insurance companies? You don't have to worry about it unless you're attempting to commit insurance fraud. If insurance companies wanted to bust someone, they have P.I.'s watching a persons every move with telephoto lens cameras. Remove that tinfoil hat.

I had a whole quote to add on, but it got lost. My point was that insurance companies are not going to rely on the flimsy data your phone records. It’s only really useful to you since you know the context. As it has been stated before, no way an insurance company is going to rely on something a defense lawyer can easily shred apart. They go the old fashioned way - they collect data that is much harder to argue against. Like photos and videos. The only companies that are going to find it useful are ones that you consent to using.

Dude dude dude.... Clam down. If you don't want it to be tracked don't open health. Just never look. It's not being made public or anything

Your bank and credit card companies know where and when you shop. You water and power company knows how much electricity and water you use. You internet service provider knows what website you visit and when you visit them. You cellphone carrier knows who and when you text and call. I can keep going. Why so paranoid about the steps you take? It stays on your phone unless you authorize an app access to that info.

Rule of thumb: If the account if new and all the posts they've every started are basically paranoid or completely trying to trash Apple, it is a troll. Ignore and move on.

What distances I walk every day, how many steps, how many stairs, how much I run, with exact time stamps....

...YES that is sensitive health data.

And it's freaking creepy at best, that you can not turn it off.

No, No its not... "sensitive health data." is data that is used to identify an individual, this (if it was to be reported to anyone) is actually no different than your doctor's computer reporting software reporting an illness or injury as statistical data, and that happens everytime you go to the doctor. If you're truly worried about what is considered Identifiable health data, and what is not look in to HIPAA laws, you can bet your butt with fines ranging from $30,000 to upwards of a million dollars per violation Apple's legal team made sure it was ok for the chip to track the info. All that aside, the key point is that the data NEVER leaves your phone, without your permission, and is far less useful to anyone aside from maybe a KGB agent that wants to assess your routine for a hit... but I assume since your have a MacRumors account your not too worried about your information being available to track.... seriously its not a huge deal, I'd be far more worried about your carrier being able to track your location via Cell towers, or your IP address being traced by anyone on this forum!! woosa :D:D

i laughed for 0.9 seconds, then debated if i should facepalm..

cant tell if for real actually thinking that ever propagates into anything like those children on xbox threatening to "hack u cause they got ur ip" or u just said that for derps

"i have an msn hack im gonna get ur ip & tell the cops u robbed a bank etc blabla"

Really? How do you turn off messages? Please let me know.

silence all texts, disable imessage, put a pin on ur sim & leave it locked? those come to mind

"i have an msn hack im gonna get ur ip & tell the cops u robbed a bank etc blabla"

HAHAHAHA I just got misty eyed, the internet was such a simpler place back then, hell I had to navigate to the chatrooms through ten foot of snow, uphill both ways, and pappy didn't give us no DSL we had to dial in...(best Jeb Clampit voice):eek:

And the fact that Apple are already in talks with insurance companies about sharing that data, doesn't give me any more confidents in this forced "feature".

HIPAA violation and highly unlikely to be implemented besides Apple doesn't have the data, it's stored on your phone.
