My heart rate monitor seems to be screwed since updating to 1.0.1.

There's a gap between my heart rate being taken at 15:23 today and 19:07 tonight.

I've noticed similar since completing the upgrade this morning - there are gaps of 30, 40 and 60 minute intervals as well as regular 10 minute intervals - whereas before it was consistently updated every 10 minutes.

Since updating to 1.01 the watch heart rate seems to randomly update the health app. It used to be every 10 minutes, now it can be 10, 30 minutes and the last one was 2 hours ago...
Just checked mine and it also hadn't updated for 2 hours.

My auto heart rate reads seem to have stopped.

I restarted both my iPhone and watch over half an hour ago, and deliberately haven't taken a manual read from my watch. When I check the Health app, there are no auto reads in the half hour since restart. :-(

I'm also having this issue since updating. Restarts haven't made a difference to me.

I unpaired then repaired my AW - and that hasn't made a difference either. At present, Health app is only registering manual heart rate checks for me.

I think it's manual for everybody with the update. The data you see is from when you have manually checked your heart rate.

IMO, this wasn't working as stated on the apple website since the beginning. They state that the IR sensor will try to get a HR, and then the green lights will turn on if it is unable to. I've never had the green lights take more than 20 seconds in the glance when sitting, so I don't understand why the glance used to say "16 minutes ago".

This is a solution that joyapplefan posted for the messages issue that seems to have also fixed my HR issue:

1) Turn bluetooth off on iPhone.
2) Enable airplane mode on your watch.
3) Shut down your iPhone
4) Shut down your Watch (hold down the button then slide "Power off")
5) Turn iPhone back on.
6) Turn bluetooth back on your iPhone.
7) Start watch.
8) Disable Airplane mode on your watch.

Since I did this, the watch has gone back to taking HR every 10 minutes. It's only been an hour, but it seems to be fixed.

Same here. It looks like maybe it is trying every 10 minutes... as it will do 3 or 4 in a row that are separated by 10 minutes and then go to 20 minutes and then 30 and then 10,10,10 again.

Seems like maybe they made it not try as hard? Like it has a shorter timeout if it can't read your pulse right away?

Mine was actually working after the update until I did this. *facepalm*

I did the fix above and it appears to be working again.

This did not work for me. After I did this I got 1 HR reading then nothing now for over 20 minutes. Frustrating. Might unpair and pair.

Was having this issue this morning as well. Heart rate was taken at 8:48, 9:28, 10:48 then not till 1:28 but it fixed itself. Has been every 10 minutes since 1:28 till now.

Didn't work for me. But, thx for posting it anyway. Was worth a shot.

I am going to bet it stops working again for a period of time. Mine worked this am, then stopped, then started every 10 min again, then stopped.

Hope someone finds a user fix but it is probably a bug introduced with 1.0.1. Hope we don't need to wait a month to get a fix from apple.

Ha. Yeah I did a manual heart rate check and now it won't automatically update. Annoying I restarted both devices hoping it will just do one automatic.

I did the unpaired/repaired business because of the messages going to the phone first instead of the watch after the update. I ran into a lot of problems after doing that but it did fix the messages issue. After finally getting most of the other mess sorted out afterwards I've checked my Health App on my phone and my HR data is there, every 10 minutes, all day long. I haven't done any manual checks on the watch.

Whether the pairing fiasco affected this or something else I did, or I wasn't having the problem in the first place I don't know. But fortunately it is working perfectly.
