I've contacted the chat support, they asked to restart devices, unpair watch, blah blah... Done done done... So they set up a phone call for tomorrow with the engineer dept. to gather more information

Would love to hear what, if anything, they conclude about this malfunction. Would be huge if you could post any news. My guess is it's a bug that requires a new OS update.

Mine has also been all over the place since 1.0.1. It has ranged from 10 minutes to 90 minutes. Something definitely went wrong with auto HR in this update. A little disappointing but I'm sure they will fix it, not the end of the world. It does still work just not very consistently.

Maybe they tied it to your movements? There's little chance your heart rate will change unless you're moving around a lot.

I have to believe if we're all experiencing this issue, you know the higher ups in Cupertino are too, and will be on this pronto (fingers crossed).

This is a solution that joyapplefan posted for the messages issue that seems to have also fixed my HR issue:

1) Turn bluetooth off on iPhone.
2) Enable airplane mode on your watch.
3) Shut down your iPhone
4) Shut down your Watch (hold down the button then slide "Power off")
5) Turn iPhone back on.
6) Turn bluetooth back on your iPhone.
7) Start watch.
8) Disable Airplane mode on your watch.

Since I did this, the watch has gone back to taking HR every 10 minutes. It's only been an hour, but it seems to be fixed.

UPDATE: Mine is back to being erratic. Bummer.

absolutely ridiculous. Apple needs to seriously get better QC on software updates. Especially when there's no way of downgrading

So this is why my battery life has improved since the update, less frequent readings!

Please report back after you have talked to the engineer. We would all appreciate it. I tried the unpair/pair process and it did not help.

I did a 30 min indoor cycle, ended the workout on the watch, then took the watch off to take a shower. Noticed that the green heart rate monitor lights were still on a good 5 minutes after I took the watch off. Never noticed this happening before the update.

I had to restart the watch to shut the lights off. I don't know if I would have noticed this had I not taken the watch off, which is concerning as it would have burned through battery life.

This is probably because you didn't actually stop and save the workout before taking the watch off. I have done that before too after being on the elliptical. Eventually it just assumes you're done and stops itself.

So nobody else has had their watch produce "fake" heart rate measurement for hours on end when they were not even wearing it, like mine did the night before last?
It doesn't seem to have recorded any "ghost" heart rates last night, but the measurement times from yesterday are all over the place (except when I did an exercise session).

I will, they should give me a call in about 10 hours
It's very likely to be a software issue IMO, so I don't think they'll give me a solution. But at least they'll be aware of the problem...

I've tried the suggested fix too, to no avail.

Looking forward to a fix, hopefully in the near future.

Same thing with my Watch. But thats not a Problem since 1.0.1.
i had the problem also with 1.0
Sometimes every 10 mins, than 20mins and so on.

Is this problem likely to affect our exercise rings? I've only clocked 1 min of exercise today and it's nearly noon. Haven't had a particularly strenuous day but I'd expect more than that.

I find that the last reading on the watch glance can read quite a while back but the health app has a reading every 10 minutes consistently.
Mine's also showing every 10 minutes consistently in the Health app on the phone. If you tap one of the entries it will show what time the HR was added to the Health app, usually a couple minutes after acquisition from the watch. The function seems to be working perfectly.

I find it easier ( and quicker ) to check the data on the phone.

I have this same issue and my health app on the phone shows HR check every 10 minutes as many others as well. This has got to be a UI problem on the watch. I would assume the only fix would have to come from another update.

In the past two hours, my health app shows 3 readings. Thats all.
The glance on the watch says my last reading was 16 minutes ago and that matches what I see on the app. It used to be every 10 minutes prior to the update.

One thing though. My rate was pretty steady throughout the day and knowing that for an hour it was about the same was not that helpful. I wonder if this change is to watch for a reading outside of a range then it reports the swing or its just messed up.

Is anybody else seeing multiple heart beat reads for the same time in the Health app? Going back through my log, it looks like this started on 19 May - I think the day 1.0.1 came out?
