i think now the internal policy looks to be that any 15" or 17" Albooks purchased with the latest hardware updates also gets the panther upgrade option, while not so for the updated 12"....BTW, anyone knows when the powerbook G5 will be introduced????

My new 12" 1Ghz mini-DVI Powerbook qualified, and the up-to-date Panther upgrade is at the FedEx facility in Ft. Lauderdale.

With so many calling it an "AiBook", I'm suprised I haven't seen it referred to as an "AiBo" yet.

You have to admit though, "AlBook" isn't a term that rolls off the tongue easily. I just call it a "PowerBook". :)

And what is it with people calling laptops "labtops"?

I never knew "Aluminum" was abbreviated as "Ai" :)

Yeah I just never bothered to post it although it has pained me every time I read it...

I'll happily spend $130 on a new OS to support my favorite hardware/software manufacturer. If they give it away to everyone who purchased new hardware in the last few monhts, they loose a lot of valuable revenue.

The G5 deal is probably to make up for the extensive delay those poor guys have had. It's been what, over a quarter of a year for those boxes to arrive? My new 17PB arrived a week later.

Huh.....
Let's all remember that Apple, while a great, innovative company, is still just that: a company/corporation. They have no trouble raising revenue.

Who was it that said all corporations are inherently evil?

Sorry, this is off topic!

They deserve it. It's in their best interest to make scads of money and it's in my best interest to use their products. It's called a win-win situation, it's called a mutual benefit, it's called capitalism!

I ordered my 12" Powebook on the 30th September and recieved it on the 21st. I've been trying to get the uptodate website working for a while but it doesn't recognise my Serial Number.

I noticed today that the form no longer accepts dates before 8th October. If you enter one it asks you to correct it.

Looks like they closed the loophole.

Oh well - I qualify for the Edu discount anyway so will just get the full version.

i ordered mine 18 oct, got it wednesday. so i qualified. now waiting only for the 10.3 pack to arrive.

Mine's sitting at home and I'm sitting in class...maybe I will drive back home before going to my friends house :)

That played quite well into you hands now, didn't it? My copy came in today, err, well, yesterday by now (It's almost 5am!!!) I'm still backing up so I'll have to install tomorrow, err, today...

They said "shipping on or before 24th". Oh yes, it did ship on the 24th. Exactly five minutes before midnight.

But it's Aibook UTD, no complaining.

Packaging of UTD Panther

Has anyone received the UTD Panther?

What is or what do you think the packaging will be like? A full version box or just the cds etc?

anyone got UTD with jaguar?

Minimal Packaging

It came in a thin envelope with CDs in soft plastic wrap and a couple of skinny "manuals." Not the full box version, but then again all I ever do with the box is help fill up some dump somewhere.

Ya, for $20, I guess they couldn't afford the box!
to be honest, it's still kinda disappointing... would have been nice... i'd display the box in the middle of my living room! HA! :) Make the box into a poster/installation art...

anyone want to send me theirs so I can make a piece of art out of it?!

Purchased my 17" alumaBook at an Apple retail store on 3rd October, and tried qualifying it, but it comes back asking for the system type and date -- knowing I'm not qualified, after all.

Will wait for bug fixes, however, after reading about all the problems so far.

So weird how the qualifying thing seems random. I bought my 15" al at an apple store the day after they were released and I qualified and received the upgrade for $20.00.

You'd think that if they gave us all the stuff that was in the box they could've just given us the damn box. The reason UTD is cheaper is because we all bought systems recently and you're paying for the OS when you buy the system, so the new one is basically discounted by what you've already paid for. We should've gotten the exact same thing as someone who purchased any version of Mac OS and then "upgraded." And if the contents are the same, what's the problem with sending the box? This is so stupid of Apple.....it's really very petty, I mean I know they're out to make money because I understand how economies work but geez, that box does not cost that much...yet there are people that will pay lots of money just for the box even though they qualified for UTD so I guess it's a smart, though assholish, thing for Apple to do...on a lighter note does anyone else seem to have problems with their illum keyboard now that panther is installed? Specifically after it's been asleep?
