You know, when they say on or before the 24th, that means the estimated "ship" date is then. It doesn't mean that by the 24th, you'd be receiving your panther.

So we'd have to wait another 3-5 days until we get the package. (that is for standard shipping)

Up to Date worked for Oct 4 purchase

Bought my 17 inch PowerBook on October 4 and the Panther announcement came out while I was waiting for it to arrive.

I went through the Up to Date link and my machine qualified for the $19.99 upgrade. I also was not charged shipping on the purchase.

Credit Card Charged

At least one pbook owner says his/her credit card has been charged. See this thread on the Apple Support fora.

I just got off the phone with apple for the third time. I argued with the lady heavily that I know people who've bought a powerbook before the Oct 8 deadline and have qualified for the free upgrade. They said that it is a mistake and before it ships it will have to go through them and they will notice these mistakes and they will not get shipped.

She was probably just saying that to get me off the phone but still, it's interesting.

So I still can't get qualified for mine (on the phone or the website)

She told me she was gonna tell her manager about this, so hopefully you guys won't get screwed because of me, and hopefully it'll just loosen their system and let me get the upgrade for free too.

THANK YOU: q1232

I bought my iMac 1.25Ghz on September 10, 2003 from the apple store... and I qualified for the Up-To-Date program for Mac OS X v10.3

I went to http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ followed the link "US Customers" (who bought from the Apple Store Online), answered the information truthfully, qualifed my computer... it was that easy....

good thing I checked this forum, I quickly CXLD a pre-order I had for Panther of which I had since the day they announced it.

Thank you q1232, if I had not read your post, I would of never known you could input your computer's serial number and find out whether you qualified or not.

Was able to register BTO PBG4 for $20 upgrade

I ordered my BTO PBG4 on September 23rd and it shipped on October 7th. I tried to register for the $20 upgrade through their website around the 13th but it wouldn't accept my serial number (I believe I registered my serial number that night also). So I waited and tried again today and it worked!

So for all of you BTOs, it does work. Perhaps it needed to be in their system a few days before it worked. Of course, like everyone else, I'll wait and see if they actually ship it at that price.

I got a shipping notification for panther UTD this morning. Shipped via fedex :)

Ordered my 15" powerbook on 9/16 :)

Mine was just shipped today. . . Don't worry. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Apple has charged my credit card for the UtD disks, although they haven't shipped yet! Like most in this thread, my new PowerBook didn't technically qualify for the UtD program (bought 16/09, shipped 26/09). It looks like Apple is going to honor our orders after all!

Actually they did...my PowerBook purchased on 9/16 will be getting it's, as Phil would say, black ***** on 10/24 before 4:30 PM, hopefully though it'll get here before I go to class because I'm going to a friend's house and won't be back until saturday, but then I'll have to go to freakin' work....damn this weekend will suck until sunday despite panther, and I think I work until 6 then so damnit! plus I have class at 9 AM on monday so I'll end up staying up late and being super tired like I am every monday....:( this viscious circle will never ****ing end...

I couldn't get qualified so I had to buy it, at the student discount of course.

I am still pretty pissed. I bought a BTO 12" PowerBook on Sept 26.

I wouldn't be pissed if none of us got it, but it pisses me off that some are getting and some are not. Especially those who bought it weeks before me.

I hear ya. I bought a BTO 12" and received it on Oct. 8th; the day Pantehr was announced!!! Really pissy, isn't it?!

So freaking unfair... I wonder if there's a BBB agency that deals with this kind of things. why can't they just make it all the same... qualify everyone with new macs!!!

argh.

Well i ordered both the up to date cd's and also and EDU Retail Box.

The UTD cd's shipped yesterday with typical 2 day shipping which i did not choose (i always choose basic shipping)

the boxed version hasnt shipped yet but shipping has changed to standard overnight, so i assume that it will go out sometime today.

I ordered my pb on 09/17 and recieved it 19/23 its was the standard 15" with Superdrive

Thanks

Thanks to those on this forum that discovered that you could buy the $20 upgrade no matter when you purchased a 15" aluminum.

Mine shipped yesterday. Due to arrive tomorrow. Second day air upgrade for the same $20!

All Panther products have free fast shipping so they will be here on Friday night.

For those of you that can't qualify like me, I would suggest a postal application. I am in the process of sending off a cheque for £14 (the British upgrade price) with the online printed postal up-to-date form and a covering letter explaining my situation. I bought on 21 Sept, it shipped on Oct 4th and arrived on Oct 9th! If I were you I would try to get it. Be nice though - although it's not a fair system they seem to be operating, remember that Apple is under no obligation to honour your claim if you bought before the 8th of October.

By the way, I can't load the up-to-date website with Safari, but I can with Camino and it says the serial number for my 12" BTO "cannot be found."
