So i had a jailbroken ipad air on ios 7.X.X

I decided to un-jailbreak it and restore it to ios 9.X.X.

I waited for the update to download ; then when it started extracting software , itunes came up with an error-

"Could not restore".

Then my ipad got stuck in an infinite recovery mode cycle.

That is whenever i would reboot it , it would always come up in recovery mode.

When i tried to restore it in DFU mode, all i would get was ERROR:3004.

I have literally tried everything.

Would be great if someone could help

Might want to look through this…

https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/97653/How+to+fix+itunes+error+9#answer274860

Essentially, if you don't update progressively while Apple is signing, the update process for the iPad gets broken. You can't jump multiple versions as it bricks the iPad.

Apple does this to force hardware upgrades.

Thanks a lot for the thread , helped me gain some insight on the problem.
I tried using Reiboot as mentioned in the thread but it kept failing for no reason.
Currently trying to restore it from the Chinese tool from www.i4.cn as mentioned in the thread.

It is showing some progress but it is stuck at 23% for quite a long time.
Thanks a lot for your help, i'll be really grateful if it works.

Nah unfortunately it did'nt work :(
Now my ipad wont even boot up in recovery mode, i.e., shows a black screen.
All i can do is boot it up in DFU mode.
Any suggestions on how to restore it in DFU mode without itunes?

Without iTunes, you can't.

If worse comes to worse go to an Apple store and use one of their iMacs near the genius bar.

Does this issue only pop up when updating? Or also happens when doing a clean restore?
I'm not sure. There was a user a while back who had problems so I researched it and that's when I came up with this link. But as far as experiencing it myself or knowing exactly what is going on I don't know.

It does make me want to upgrade my jailbroken iPad Air 2 before iOS 10 drops though. It's on 8.1 right now and I don't want to find myself another statistic on this.

Educated guess though - a clean restore would already be coming from an updated/upgraded iPad so I would assume there wouldn't be an issue. But I have no idea.
