Here's what I did:
Moved to France, where people care about football
Decided to support a Premier League team, in addition to OGC Nice :)
Found out who the best French football player in the Premier League is
Support that team

Thus, Arsenal :D

It's got to be the Arsenal. They play the most attractive football in the league and have the best player - Thierry Henry

OT, but... does anyone here play football management games? Championship Manager, Football Manager, etc.?

I like taking small teams to the Premier League... I find it fun to build teams from the ground up and take them from the lower conferences. Just took Cambridge United from the (forget the name of the conference) to the Premier League. Took me like seven seasons, though... Hey, if I can take a minnow like that up to the EPL, maybe I should quit my day job! ;)

Yeah, I've been playing Champ Manager - now Football Manager - since the '93 version on my Amiga, and you're right, the only way to play it is to take a minnow to the top. I once took Wisla from the Polish Second Divison to winning the First Division and the UEFA Cup, it took about 10 seasons, but I rule  :D

They used to play the best football three seasons ago. They still play nice football but have lost a lot of the players that made them play the best football.

Pires, Bergkamp, Vieira, Campbell, Cole (probably). and other players are getting older like ljungberg..

They used to play fantastic football... not so much any more

I disagree (but then I'm an irrational football fan ;) )

So who, in the Premiership, plays better football than Arsenal?

I said they still play good football. It depends what type of football you like really.

Liverpool, Man utd and chelsea are all capable of playing excellent football at times of equal or better quality. Liverpool are certainly better passers of the ball and Chelsea dominate more.

Liverpool fans :D: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh_HG_YYBs4&NR

"Mourinho said don't worry Chelsea have nothing to fear
But how he went so quite when up popped Luis Garcia
His shot it had no power but then he took his goal
And now he's taking Rafa to Istanbul

Rafael rafael rafa in Istanbul

Benitez said don't worry ill wipe away your tears
'cos Stevie G's a red and a red he'll be for years
You can keep you John Terry stick your Lampard up your arse
'cos Carragher is here and Gerrard's staying ours

Rafael Rafael rafa in Istanbul"

Choosing a team isn't something you do with your head, it's with the heart. Hence people saying your team chooses you.

As recommended, you should watch a few games before choosing.

I'm from Liverpool and am a big Liverpool fan, and biased with it. We've the best manager in the league, the best player (Gerrard), the best passer (Alonso), the best defender (Carragher, equal to Terry IMO) and the player who many believe to be the best finisher ever to have graced the game (Fowler).
We also have a young lad called Momo Sissoko who is almost an unknown outside of Anfield. A special talent who I reckon will become a great - in the same mold as Viera.

Liverpool and Man Utd can play great football (when Gerrard/Alonso & Rooney/Ronaldo are in the mood), but Chelsea play excellent football?

And I repeat

Chelsea are based around a solid defence/Makelele (their most important player) and then long balls up to Drogba so that he can fall over and get a freekick for Lampard to either score from directly, or set-up for Terry to head in :D

Such a tired stereotype.... I HATE Chelsea with a passion - but they can play great football at times.

Liverpool are certainly (with their new pacey signings) going to step it up a few notches next season

I don't hate Chelsea, just the way they play and the media love-in that surrounds them! But I do seriously dislike Jose Mourinho, while there's no disputing his managerial record, the arrogant *bloke* needs to learn how to lose with good grace.

And I agree with you about Liverpool this season, and also think Tottenham could be a real contender.

Tottenham were written off this last season as bottom half of the table. Martin Jol steps in and they do really well. i like Tottenham. They are one of my favourite clubs and yes, next season is a bit too soon but they will be title contenders in the near future, especially if they can attract good players.

I have no idea what you are basing this on.

They finished a massive 26 points off the title last season and they were only close to 4th because Arsenal did so poorly.

Spurs are a solid team but a title team takes years and years and years to build (with the exception of chelsea and blackburn who have bought it). To over take Liverpool, Chelsea, Mancs and Arsenal in the next 5 years would be a miracle and just wont happen.

I'm not sure of this. As much as I hate them with a passion, I have tried to set this aside and actually watch them on a few occasions. On each occasions I've been bored silly and found my mind wandering from the game - unlike when I watched Man Utd in their pomp and Arsenal 3/4 years ago (when they played the most attractive football I've ever seen - better even than LFC of the 80's).

If I was Abramovich, Maureen would have been out the door by now simply because there is no sign of entertaining 'sexy' football.
Given that they've spent a quarter of a BILLION pounds on their squad, I would expect a lot lot more. Their hoof-ball tactics are that of an unimaginative manager, and Drogba - the key to those tactics - is a truly horrid horrid player.

The purchase of Shevchenko and Ballack (with the possibility of Carlos following) tells me this is the last throw of the dice for Maureen in trying to acquire The Champions League.
If Maureen is still at Chel$ki this time next year I will be astounded.

Watch the football, choose the team you enjoy watching most. With respect, you should make this decision yourself based on your own enjoyment of the play, not from half-arsed partisan advice on a message board.

My piece of half-arsed advice: support Aston Villa, a club with history, no ambition, no manager, and a backwards chairman. The only way is up. Still. We've won more European Cups than Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle combined.

Arsenal's always a joy to watch. They have a new stadium, so it'll be amazing seeing them play at home, and Thierry Henry their star player is breath-taking.

What more, Arsenal has players with great potential with them, like Fabregas, Eboue, Walcott, to name a few.

Whatever you choose, the EPL is always exciting to watch :).

Cheers

I just got into watching Premier League last season. My brother is an Arsenal fan but I root for Liverpool...

I also really like watching Portsmouth avoid relegation, so I guess I root for them too. And Wigan was fun to watch.

Actually being new to the sport is fun because I don't really have any entrenched loyalties...I can root for everyone.

But I think I'm going to get myself a Liverpool jersey.

Oh, I had no illusions that most of the suggestions I'll get will be biased. It apparently isn't possible to follow the Premiership (not "Premier League" I've learned) without having entrenched loyalties that go with it.

Since the World Cup ended, I started watching reruns of last season's games and have gotten more familiar with the teams. I was surprised at how much more entertaining the games were than the World Cup: faster pace, more scoring attempts, less diving and whining.

I think I'm going to take a couple more weeks, since there are some teams that I haven't seen much of yet. So far I've dismissed Chelsea and Man U, mainly because at this point it's impossible to root for them now without jumping on a bandwagon. (Especially Chelsea. Given the circumstances, no one can start legitimately rooting for them until they suck again, but their longtime fans....er...supporters are in heaven.) The same bandwagon issue applies to Arsenal and Liverpool, to a lesser extent.

I really like Arsenal's style of play, and the idea of a Frenchman being the best striker in England is hilarious to me. (I've heard a few of the announcers blatantly hope for more good English players instead of foreigners, which seems really silly to me.) But I consider their super-popularity to be a negative. It will be assumed by others that I latched onto the most American-friendly team, one that has won fairly recently. Liverpool seem to have great fans and history. And this is going to seem silly, but I find bright red kind of obnoxious. I can't imagine myself wearing a red jersey anywhere.

There's something to be said for choosing a team that's on the upswing and with a little luck, become a contender. So Spurs are my leading candidate so far. (Not "the Spurs," as I've learned.) It's a pretty fun process though!
