How many of the environments will be sponsored by various companies? You know, every tree with a carving from Brand A, skywriting with Brand B, big Hollywood sign for Brand C? You know it will happen eventually. Then will come the expansion packs where you can add additional elements, each with their own branding. So you want a pet? It’s got markings for Brand D. That theater look the showed? Brands E and F show up around it. Etc.
Heck, why limit it to today? I want to go back to London in 1890, or Rome in 100.

The moon would be interesting. A few places I'd like to see added to the list: The Grand Canyon, Rick Sanchez's garage, Point Nemo, in orbit looking down at earth.

I bet that would happen. Walk into the Roman Colosseum and every company imaginable will have banners across the area and field. When gladiators fight they will be decked out like nascar drivers with logos….

Although given Apple’s resistance with opening the watch’s face design I have a feeling they will be reluctant to offer much customization in this product.

Sounds like you’re describing some Metaverse junk and nothing close to Apple’s platform.

How about classic Windows XP background as an environment?

SteamVR has this already. The iconic "Bliss" wallpaper is available as a SteamVR environment

I don't use it of course I use the Halo ring environment also in the image. A lot of people I know use the Star Trek Holodeck environment though

This makes me hope we aren't limited to just Apple's environments. They should open visionOS up for third party environments. and said environments could be bought and sold from the App Store for $2 a pop. A Star Trek Holodeck environment would make millions

Are the Environments "live" or "Static"... for example will the water in the lake show movement, or the clouds move?

Sadly Apple is adding more ads each year. Weather app, stocks app, App Store, etc. My description is a bit of parody but pointing out what eventually happens.

Wait....the Moon? Are these just created in silico or did they film the environments?
Doubtful they have enough footage for the Moon, so that's going to be AI generated most likely. The part in the white square is real, the stuff outside is AI generated.

If I can get my mitts on an Apple Vision Pro, I'm heading towards the location Neil Armstrong found a giant pipe on the Moon.

Is this a giant pipe I see before me?
The stem toward my feet? Come, let me clutch thee.
I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.
Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible
To feeling as to sight?

I’m looking forward to escaping this reality and submerging myself in someone else’s idea of reality. As long as it involves carnal pleasures.

Everyone on this thread is quickly getting to the same point: we may want customizable environments in the future. Maybe Apple should offer something new instead and make it easy for users to view their own high res 360 photos (or videos) in a separate app, just not as an environment.
Yeah I'm concerned with the lack of other planets. The moon isn't going to cut it.

I misunderstood the photo that went with the article title and thought that the kitchen was one of the background views and thought 'hmm, that's not impressive'...

No disrespect to whoever's kitchen it was!

What I’m noticing is that all these demos and photos are shot inside some very spacious living rooms and bedrooms with an absurd amount of empty space. What will this look and feel like when used in a cramped apartment that doesn’t look like a showroom at Design Within Reach?

The water ripples, the clouds move, and the movie reflects onto the lake.

This is shown in the Principles of Spatial Design session (16:30 for the water and cloud part)
