Hmm yeh iMacs are in a funny place at the moment, hopefully next month we get an update. They did sell these at their premium price. And my iMac 27 still has not been replaced within the eco system.
No, it is not. Intel Macs with GPUs that have 8-16 GB VRAM can run this "AI". You just need RAM and VRAM and some CPU threads, and Intel Mac have that (except for RAM maybe). You can run llama and other models locally successfully. On Windows you can even compile "drivers" for your AMD card if it is not supported by the software that runs the models natively. It is easy, there is no magic or hard to do stuff there. I know, because I use llama daily on Intel Mac.It's a technical limitation, rather than a product one, AFAICT. Both of these features seem to rely on hardware acceleration that only Apple Silicon will have (or the performance may just be too poor to be usable on x86). Those who bought the Mac Pros will have known they were on legacy hardware, and will have expected to be able to upgrade by now
I find comments like yours hilarious Apples implementation of AI is mostly just giving users helpful features. You are speaking about it like it’s some nefarious stuff to avoid at all costnot supporting Apple Intelligence is maybe a good thing. If I update my Mac mini to Sequoia I will disable all the AI rubbish.
I use mine daily and it's a wonderful machine still. I just have no idea why Apple would include apps that don't function with this update. iPhone Mirroring is not supported on 2019 Intel iMacs, but the App is installed anyways...Man, I forgot Intel Macs even exist. There must be millions of them out there being used every day.
As long as I can disable it, I don't care. But Apple... being Apple, this will be only partially successful just like Siri. I'd just like to properly delete the [cough][cough] features that I don't want and will never use. Come on Apple, let those of us who don't want these new-fangled features to nuke them.not supporting Apple Intelligence is maybe a good thing. If I update my Mac mini to Sequoia I will disable all the AI rubbish.
And people said at one time we didn’t need cars, trains, planes at one point now we use them daily. AI is the future, no stopping it, because humanity took that path long time ago when computers and internet became a thing. Humanity would be better off without the internet probablyBecause AI draws data from the Internet.. the same Internet that is populated with data by humans.. like you and me. It stands to reason that you and I can obtain the same data on our own and do with it what we wish. some people seem to think that using a machine equates to a superior outcome, but they fail to realize that machines lack emotions, feelings, and common sense. Mankind survived just fine without AI this long, we don’t need AI now. No machine will ever be as powerful as the human brain. The problem we need to tackle is laziness.
Yeah Macs last a long time. It was only last year when I retired my iMac Late 2013 running Catalina. The software was just getting too old for the new stuff like Ai Photo and Video work.Man, I forgot Intel Macs even exist. There must be millions of them out there being used every day.

Which explains why Apple Stores across the world are unionizing en masse - because they're happy with the work environment Cook has createdIn addition to the above, Cook has created a work environment at Apple where its 160,000+ employees are happy and well compensated in order for the above to happen....
Cook is constantly looking for the boundaries. During his time as a ceo the value of money for their products made a nosedive. I personally think this time he has pushed too far. There are bad reviews about the iPhone 16/16pro all over the internet from well established tech reporters. I also saw one comparing a 200 dollar phone with the new iPhone 16. Of course the 200 dollar phone came with 120hz screen refresh 16 gb RAM and 256gb memory standard. It’s a shameful tactic from Apple. I hope people wake up and vote with their wallet. That’s the only way to get a better Apple.
So nothing of value was lost, in other words. Good to hear I wouldn't be missing out on anything useful.
Did you update to Sequoia yet? I have a 2018 Mini as well. Not a fan of Sonoma as Safari is worse with websites like facebook. Hoping this release fixes some of that but not hopeful. I just don't want more issuesMac Mini 2018 here…
I can live with that.
iMac 2019 here - no big loss on the feature restrictions.Man, I forgot Intel Macs even exist. There must be millions of them out there being used every day.
The only reason Rosetta was taken out of Lion was because of IBM not wanting to license the tech to Apple after their contract with them expired. At the time, Apple itself or someone in Apple said that they did not want to stop including it but it was out of their hands. Apple made Rosetta 2 themselves and learned from that past mistake of relying on a third party for such important code.Original Rosetta was kept around for about 5-6 years; it was dropped in 10.7 Lion in 2011. We're only a bit over 3 and a half years past the introduction of the M1 in late 2020. Given that Apple is using Rosetta 2 for things like the Game Porting Toolkit, and the fact that the Apple Silicon transition was only completed a year ago (whereas the PPC to Intel transition was completed in 8 months between January and August 2006) we might see Rosetta around for a few more years.
