The GPS + Cellular just kills me. I want the sapphire but have no need for cellular. The last thing I need is another device on my plan to pay a monthly fee on, just so I don't have to carry my phone with me. I'll be sitting this one out.
As for this, you are adding the radio ($100) AND changing the material ($200). Not sure what the actual question is?Can someone explain the $300 diff between the aluminum (GPS) and (cellular only) stainless steel watches?
It's actually hilarious. Apart from some tiny engraving at the back, the Hermes watch-face and an extra silicon orange band that you probably won't even try there is no difference to the regular SS. So you save $200 by just buying them separately.Does anyone own a Hermes edition? They sure look nice, but that price is pretty high. I know you can buy a band by itself for around $300, which means you are paying $999 (stainless LtE sport band for $699 plus $300 Hermes band). Are there other differentiators that justifiy the $1299 price point for the 44v
I dislike the fact that I cannot purchase a SS version without LTE.
What's the difference between aluminum vs stainless steel case, other than the obvious? Why is it $220 more?
All watches and iPhone Xs/Max go on sale at the same time tonight at midnight PT corresponding to time zones around the world. What time does the watch go on sale? I know the phones are 12:01 PDT but is that true for the phones? Product launches outside of the phones usually don’t go on sale at 12:01 do they?
Neither do I, but you don’t have to activate it. Still ups the price. I’m looking at $749 + tax, a little over $800.
Won’t be buying on Friday. Have to think about it now.
I seriously own 3 white sport bands at this point, since that's the cheapest entry point into SS. I really, really wish I could just buy the actual Apple Watch S4 itself, without a band.Apple's really sticking it to stainless steel owners every way imaginable. For anyone with a collection of stainless steel bands, effective 2017 you were locked into also paying $100 extra for LTE whether you wanted it or not. Then, Apple raised the price another $100 this year. And to top it all off, the stainless steel models are only offered as a bundle with the bands you're most likely to already own.
For $749, I should at least get the opportunity to BTO my watch to include one of the new colored sports bands instead of paying twice for the white one I already own.
Does anyone make extra-long Apple Watch bands? I'm trying to get into shape (less rounded) and would love to use the Apple Watch's activity features, but the longest band needs to be about an inch longer.
Actually, I can confirm that's unfortunately the case with the aluminum models and the reason why I'm going for the SS this time. My series 0 watch is scratched everywhere including the screen and I'm actually quite careful with my devices. The aluminum watch scratches extremely easy (both the screen and the case). After a couple of years they look terrible, whereas my stainless steel 1 series still looks brand new three years later. The stainless steel case can also be polished out to take scratches out, and the additional weight over the aluminum does feel better.
The sapphire screen on the SS is also brighter and easier to read in sunlight.
They don't have 904L ?

Yes, but together $100. As I said on another thread, the Rolex will stay in rotation with the Breitling. It's a $50 difference on an $800 watch. The sales tax is more than that.

They are both 20 years old and look and work great. How long will that $800 Apple watch last. That’s the sticking point.
Were you pretty careful with your series 1? I'm pretty crazy about scratches but I'm not a big fan of the stainless steel shiny look.
Would be interested in seeing a picture of your series 1 scratches if you didn't mind.

I think the glass/aluminum models are supposed to be brighter aren't they? I don't notice much between my SS and my wife's sport model but I think I read that somewhere.
As far as scratches go I totally agree. You can buff out the SS and the sapphire, which really is nice. I think the SS models will last a lot longer. The question is does it matter with these watches when they are obsolete as fast as they are?
What he expressed was a very valid gripe of an “existing” Apple customer. Your comment on other hand is the same old fanboy defending their cult leader’s (loyal) customer unfriendly pricing practices. People who express his views are usually able to afford but see through the value lost in having to purchase the same band again and are right to point that out.Sticking it? If you think it's too expensive or you can't afford it, then don't buy it. The US Constitution doesn't guarantee an Apple Watch of your choice at the price you name. No one is sticking you with anything.
There are watches in this world that sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars simply because of who makes them or what they are made of. Any Apple Watch for under $1,000 is a bargain in comparison.
