I can tell you how long it will last. My Spring 2015 Series 0 42mm Stainless Steel Apple Watch is not eligible for the new WatchOS this month. Lucky for me, right underneath where the buy button would be is an option to trade in my Apple Watch toward a new one. I input my serial number, and they are offering me... $25... o_O

So, a little over 3 years for an $800+ watch. My Citizens are that old and don’t need batteries or winding.

Probably not for me. Thanks.

In the sixty's I had a watch that ran a year on a one dollar battery. In the 80's I had a watch that was solar powered and never needed a replacement battery. I think the Apple Watch functions are cool, but you have to recharge the battery every night? Wake me up when you can build a watch that is solar powered.

Have I got this right - Stainless Steel is only available with GPS + Cellular, there’s no GPS only version? Was this the case with Series 3?

Sticking it? If you think it's too expensive or you can't afford it, then don't buy it. The US Constitution doesn't guarantee an Apple Watch of your choice at the price you name. No one is sticking you with anything.

There are watches in this world that sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars simply because of who makes them or what they are made of. Any Apple Watch for under $1,000 is a bargain in comparison.
Did you just now compare an Apple Watch-electronic device that will be out of use in 3-4 years with a Vacheron Constantin,Audemars Piguet,Patek Philippe etc. to name a few? o_O
that will be in use even after a hundred years?Really?

Were you pretty careful with your series 1? I'm pretty crazy about scratches but I'm not a big fan of the stainless steel shiny look.

Would be interested in seeing a picture of your series 1 scratches if you didn't mind.
The aluminum case is actually quite sturdy but the issue is that if you are planning to wear the watch every day (as you should) it's almost impossible not to hit it around, especially if you are into sports/exercise.

The GPS + Cellular just kills me. I want the sapphire but have no need for cellular. The last thing I need is another device on my plan to pay a monthly fee on, just so I don't have to carry my phone with me. I'll be sitting this one out.

You don’t HAVE to add the watch to your cellular plan. You can use it without it.

Apple's really sticking it to stainless steel owners every way imaginable. For anyone with a collection of stainless steel bands, effective 2017 you were locked into also paying $100 extra for LTE whether you wanted it or not. Then, Apple raised the price another $100 this year. And to top it all off, the stainless steel models are only offered as a bundle with the bands you're most likely to already own.

For $749, I should at least get the opportunity to BTO my watch to include one of the new colored sports bands instead of paying twice for the white one I already own.
Right?? I have owned two SS models but will now drop down to an aluminum model as the price was a little too steep to justify it.

I love my Stainless Steel series 0 watch. It still looks great. But it is now obsolete, unable to get the new WatchOS this year. A little over 3 years, and Apple is offering me $25 for it. It is hard to justify getting another SS watch, so I will have to go with the aluminum so that my 'rental price' for the next couple of years is lower. And I say rental because the resale value of these watches are really low compared to reselling an iPhone. Sure, SS and sapphire are more durable. But since I'm not keeping the watch for 5+ years due to the OS upgradability become obsolete well before then, durability is less of a concern.

For thousands of people the ECG/heart functions on this are priceless. Getting this amount of medical functionality in a sub-$1000 device is pretty revolutionary. I suspect these will be prescribed to people with heart problems to help them monitor themselves.

thank god i don't own this tiny screen product.

...Tiny screen Product? It’s a watch, not sure what else you’re expecting here. For the Record, the Apple Watch new displays for the 44 mm actually has a larger display than some of my mechanical watches. There is nothing ‘Tiny’ about that.

What's the difference between aluminum vs stainless steel case, other than the obvious? Why is it $220 more?

Why aside the obvious? That's exactly the reason. An aluminium tin can is a lot cheaper to instantly press than it is to mill and polish stainless steel which requires a lot more time and human hands on intervention. There's also the back and front which is made out sapphire in the stainless steel Watch, much more expensive than the Ion glass in the aluminium Watch.

Does anyone make extra-long Apple Watch bands? I'm trying to get into shape (less rounded) and would love to use the Apple Watch's activity features, but the longest band needs to be about an inch longer.
Check out the Sport Loop Band! Apple says it fits to 220 cm (8.6 inches) and because of the way it loops through the link and then velcro-s it appears that it would fit even larger than that. I have it on my 42mm watch and I have fat hands and wrists and I'm willing to bet it would accommodate ANY wrist. This band is great for hot weather and working out, BTW, as its so lightweight.

Does anyone own a Hermes edition? They sure look nice, but that price is pretty high. I know you can buy a band by itself for around $300, which means you are paying $999 (stainless LtE sport band for $699 plus $300 Hermes band). Are there other differentiators that justifiy the $1299 price point for the 44v

Cool Hermes watch faces. You also get a Hermes-exclusive orange sport band.

I doubt there is even a 10% difference (of the 300$ price difference) in materials or manufacturing between the two watches

There's already a precedent with insurance companies giving fitness bracelets to their customers and granting them discounts on their rates if they hit certain fitness goals. I can imagine that kind of incentive for high risk customers given better insurance rates if they ongoingly monitor their heart health with an Apple Watch.

Looking like I'm finally to upgrade from my series 0 stainless/milanese to a series 4 stainless black/milanese. Looking forward to seeing what an apple watch is like when 3rd party apps actually can run on it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the stainless steel just isn’t for me. I love the look and feel of it, but in CAD it’s $1000+. I don’t need cellular, and I don’t need more of the same bands. Apple should really (for all of the watches) make them to order. Pick your case, pick your band, here is the price. I’m sure if they can figure out how to get robots to manufacture and assemble things they can figure out how to do custom orders. I mean they used to engrave iPods with no problems!

It makes you wonder if Apple created the bezels on the prior design on purpose so that they could release the Apple Watch 4 without the bezels.

Thanks. Funny how the comparison on 4 vs 3 on apple site only states sapphire glass. Guess Apple Watch stainless steel instead of an upgrade to Xr is the way to go.

Though the glass is much stronger and scratch resistant, the stainless steel body is softer and scratches easier than the aluminum. I own one. Glass, nothing. Body, small scratches everywhere. That said, it's a beautiful watch.

Yes. It was a clever plan to release a watch with bezels so that three and a half years later they could announce ones without.

For the same reason, they didn't release the original Apple Watch with blood pressure monitoring, a unicorn tear dispenser, and the ability to levitate.
