I am going to upgrade eventually but I am going to wait and stick with my Series 3 for now. I seem to recall Best Buy has had Black Friday and holiday promos for Apple Watch in the past. Third party retailers seem more willing to discount the watches on occasion.

Though the glass is much stronger and scratch resistant, the stainless steel body is softer and scratches easier than the aluminum. I own one. Glass, nothing. Body, small scratches everywhere. That said, it's a beautiful watch.
Yeah, I have hairline scratches all over my original stainless steel, but i don't notice them unless i look for them. When i think back on the number of times I've whacked my wrist into objects over the three and a half years, sapphire was worth it.

And to top it all off, the stainless steel models are only offered as a bundle with the bands you're most likely to already own.

Completely agree - but it is a problem for all models. I’ll probably wait for the Series 5 but it’s really poor form to make you buy the same strap you already have. Not to mention wasteful.

Were you pretty careful with your series 1? I'm pretty crazy about scratches but I'm not a big fan of the stainless steel shiny look.

Would be interested in seeing a picture of your series 1 scratches if you didn't mind.

Crossfit every day while wearing my aluminum watch. Not a single scratch on the casing or the screen. Had a series 0 and replaced it last year with a series 3. Not a scratch on either one and I'm lifting weights, carrying sandbags, swinging sledgehammers, etc. on a daily basis and not a single scratch.

The GPS + Cellular just kills me. I want the sapphire but have no need for cellular. The last thing I need is another device on my plan to pay a monthly fee on, just so I don't have to carry my phone with me. I'll be sitting this one out.

I dislike the fact that I cannot purchase a SS version without LTE.

Easy fix: Don’t activate it then. Great feature to have build in down the line if you change your mind

I can tell you how long it will last. My Spring 2015 Series 0 42mm Stainless Steel Apple Watch is not eligible for the new WatchOS this month. Lucky for me, right underneath where the buy button would be is an option to trade in my Apple Watch toward a new one. I input my serial number, and they are offering me... $25... o_O

Haha I'm right there with you... I thought $25 on the trade in was laughable.

So I’m a little confused. I have a series 2 aluminum gold (not rose gold). And I would like the series 4 aluminum gold, but they only come with pink bands. Is the series 4 aluminum gold the new rose gold or is it closer to the neutral gold color?

I have a Series 0 Space Grey Aluminum that I have had since about 6 months after they came out, have worn it every day since and other than some micro scratches on the screen (which you really only can see in direct sunlight), it still looks brand new... Not sure what you guys are doing to your watches to get tons of scratches! I also feel the same about the phones too (mine always look brand new after the couple years I have had them even though I only ever have them in a bumper-style "case")...

Can someone explain the $300 diff between the aluminum (GPS) and (cellular only) stainless steel watches?
I had the original Aluminum (with IonX glass) and then stainless (with Sapphire). As others have said, stainless steel is heavier and feels more like quality jewelry, Aluminum is lighter for sports app and wears well but will get dinged if you bang it into brick walls and such. I have seen some minor scuffs on the IonX glass, none on the Sapphire.
I have notices on the first gen watches that the Sapphire showed finger prints more than the IonX.
Currently I am using an Aluminum Series-3 and love it.
I could go back to SS, but I would want to see how finger prints look by playing with units at the Apple store.

Like other have said, I wish Apple would sell the watch-only as an option for watch fans who already have the bands offered but want to upgrade their watch to the latest and greatest tech.

Bodybuilder here. I guess my exposure is a little bit different than yours, with the stainless steel Apple Watch, I found the sapphire display was much more manageable around heavy weights and I feel more comfortable using that. The Ion-X Glass use for the aluminum model is very durable, but when I did own the sport model, I did find out it scratched easier than I expected. Out of Fairness, the scratch may have been on Oleophobic coating as well. But my own anecdotal experiences, the stainless model wins for me due the sapphire display.

I saw a stainless steel link on display in the hands on area but didn’t see it on Apple’s website. Odd.

Ugh. I was hoping to upgrade my aluminum 42mm 1st generation with a 44mm stainless steel. But it's so expensive at $749.

44mm aluminum is still quite expensive for GPS+LTE at $529 :(
if you want to play the upgrade with Apple - you need to sell the previous generation and try to be only 1 generation behind so that way you can fund your next purchase.

On the subject of the Hermes watches:

First of all, @MacRumors you missed the deployment clasp model which is $1499 so your list isn’t complete. All that effort and you missed the most expensive and last Apple Watch variant!

As for if its worth the price; NO, is it value for money. You do get the Apple Watch, an Orange sports band and the Hermes band you chose for that price. If you chose the standard stainless Apple Watch and added the Hermes band it would come to $200 less as just buying the Hermes model ($1299).

So your paying $200 for the Hermes logo on the back and a custom watch face. I have the Series 3 with Deployment Buckle and I love the strap - and I use the Hermes watch face because its the best in my opinion. But with these new watch faces I am not sure I would use them. I may as well buy a standard watch and buy a new band and save money.

But then I won’t get the orange Hermes sport band or watch face. So is it worth it. NO. However you do get two things you can’t get on any other watch.

Sticking it? If you think it's too expensive or you can't afford it, then don't buy it. The US Constitution doesn't guarantee an Apple Watch of your choice at the price you name. No one is sticking you with anything.

There are watches in this world that sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars simply because of who makes them or what they are made of. Any Apple Watch for under $1,000 is a bargain in comparison.

While his use of an overly dramatic adjective may be unnecessary, he is allowed to feel hard done by, criticism isn’t a crime. I for one agree with his sentiments, go ahead attack me with your petty insults too.

My Series 3 aluminum is beat to hell from my daily exercise: CrossFit, Sandbag PT, Running, ETC. My Series 2 White Ceramic has held up beautifully though.

You didn’t look thoroughly enough. Select bands, scroll all the way down and then select “Explore bands from previous seasons”, There you will find the link band and stainless black link band. The Stainless link band is now discounted to $350.

Ah ok thanks!

What happened to Apple’s mix and match feature on their website? I’d like to see what a SS gold watch looks like with a band that has white lugs. Most of the bands I have are with white lugs.

Why only pink bands with the gold aluminum? It's not just a woman's color for the watch for sure.
Why is the pink band a "woman's color"? I wear my pink sand and hot pink band all the time with my ceramic. I don't see this as just a "woman's color".

What is your resting heart rate according to your Citizen watch? :)

Not a selling point for me. Cardiologist told me after extensive tests: "This heart will never kill you, you'll have to die from something else". Pains were from stress of my job. Retired now. So, Jaro65, as I said, probably not for me

thank god i don't own this tiny screen product.
Tiny screen product?

Some fun facts:

The monitor for my first Apple computer, the IIc, had a display resolution of 560 x 192 pixels. (107520 pixels.)

The display resolution for the 44mm Series 4 Apple Watch is 368 x 448 pixels. (164864 pixels.) 53% larger than that Apple computer!

(Even my Series 3 has a larger display. Ah, technology!)

You'd be wrong. Working steel is much more difficult and time consuming than working aluminum.
Well, technically I didn't say anything about that I just quoted a overall combined price as a comparison on alu vs. 316/L steel for materials and paired that with what I know of labor and manufacturing costs in Asia..

Im always open for some more direct evidence of the actual cost comparison at the vendor/manufacturer level.

I think IHS will do a full breakdown on all these new watches soon enough, including the SS version as they haven't done one in a while - if at all.

Yes. It was a clever plan to release a watch with bezels so that three and a half years later they could announce ones without.

For the same reason, they didn't release the original Apple Watch with blood pressure monitoring, a unicorn tear dispenser, and the ability to levitate.
thank you - was going to reply the same - if you see tear down of the AW - you see that's amazing feat of engineering and then they are able to add more stuff to it every year.
