Because "gold" aluminum isn't gold - it's pink. Gold stainless is gold.

Yuck. (For me... see below.)
[doublepost=1536869048][/doublepost]
Why is the pink band a "woman's color"? I wear my pink sand and hot pink band all the time with my ceramic. I don't see this as just a "woman's color".

You are right! I stand corrected! It's just not for me, but I absolutely shouldn't make a blanket statement like that.

I don’t understand why they don’t sell just the watch without the band. Revenue I guess?

I think that newer models will last a little bit longer (kinda like iPhones) and there will be less need to replace them often. However, if you consider that is an object that you use every day, for multiple functions, that also monitors your health basics in realtime, that monitors your training with pretty good precision, and that assists you somewhat (GPS etc.), it’s not a big deal. $399/730days is about half a dollar a day. If you’re into fitness, health, etc. it ain’t that horrible.
Completely agreed, and I think the aluminum price is legitimate. The stainless steel models is where I think it starts getting into silly-town pricewise. That said, I like the look of the steel so I may very well wind up getting one, but it's just amusing to me that stainless steel is priced like it's actual silver or gold in Apple world.

The Stainless Steel sucks this year. You only get a white sport band for $749? I paid $699 for my Series 0 and it came with a Milanese Loop! So $50 more and a band downgrade? I'm in the market to upgrade but holy balls wow. Even the aluminum gives you two band options for the same price. I guess I never noticed that the Apple Watch prices went up this much.
I was trying to recall what the original Milanese Loop model went for, thank you. So the stainless steel models have seen a $150 or 20%+ price increase since introduction. Barf.

Sticking it? If you think it's too expensive or you can't afford it, then don't buy it. The US Constitution doesn't guarantee an Apple Watch of your choice at the price you name. No one is sticking you with anything.

There are watches in this world that sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars simply because of who makes them or what they are made of. Any Apple Watch for under $1,000 is a bargain in comparison.

I can't make out what you're saying. Take Tim's balls out of your mouth. Selling Watches only with certain bands that previous customers may already own or new customers may not like is BULLCRAP.

[*]Space Gray with Black Sport Loop (GPS + Cellular) - $499 for 40mm / $529 for 44mm
[*]Space Gray with Black Nike Sport Loop (GPS + Cellular) - $499 for 40mm / $529 for 44mm

Can someone help me with the differences between the models for the links I have left above? They seem to be the same price with the same band but one is called nike sport loop and the other isn't. TIA.

The Nike band is slightly different and comes with some nike watch faces.

Edit: actually looks like the same band here. So you just get a different box and Nike watch faces that are exclusive.

Thanks for the reply. I have not had an Apple Watch before. I am assuming you still get all the other watch faces as well with the Nike watch, right?

Lastly, the sport loop band, is magnetic? I imagine that it holds on pretty well if it has sport in the name of the band?

Does anyone make extra-long Apple Watch bands? I'm trying to get into shape (less rounded) and would love to use the Apple Watch's activity features, but the longest band needs to be about an inch longer.

Have you tried any of the ‘loop’ bands. I’ve always had trouble finding bands big enough fro my wrists, but the Melanese Loop goes around my wrist with about a three inch overlap.

So buy the watch and put the Milanese Loop you already own on the new watch.

I can tell you how long it will last. My Spring 2015 Series 0 42mm Stainless Steel Apple Watch is not eligible for the new WatchOS this month. Lucky for me, right underneath where the buy button would be is an option to trade in my Apple Watch toward a new one. I input my serial number, and they are offering me... $25... o_O

I was offered $115 on my series 2 aluminum Apple Watch. I think it was the series 0 that caused the low offer.

With my Series 3 Nike I got all the faces
I think the Nike band has perforations.
The sports bands are Velcro like, not magnetic.
Also, the series 4 Nike version won’t be available until October, I believe.

What's the difference between aluminum vs stainless steel case, other than the obvious? Why is it $220 more?

My quick search showed that Stainless Steel is like 60% more expensive than aluminum as a raw material and that machining the steel dulls the blades much much faster than machining aluminum.

Series 4 uses ceramic/sapphire for the bottoms of all models. So it's only a materials difference.

What he expressed was a very valid gripe of an “existing” Apple customer. Your comment on other hand is the same old fanboy defending their cult leader’s (loyal) customer unfriendly pricing practices. People who express his views are usually able to afford but see through the value lost in having to purchase the same band again and are right to point that out.
Thanks captain obvious! Print your comment and read it every time you’re itching to post the same crap o_O

It's not a valid gripe. It's the whining of the typical self-entitled millennial. There are people in this world who can't afford to buy food, yet he's whining that an electronic gadget that he can certainly live without is priced too high.

Maybe his next stop should be on ferrarichat.com to complain that the 458 is absurdly priced.

There's no such thing as an "unfriendly" pricing practice. The price is determined by supply and demand. There are certainly more than enough buyers for what Apple is charging, so discounting would be ridiculous.

Did you just now compare an Apple Watch-electronic device that will be out of use in 3-4 years with a Vacheron Constantin,Audemars Piguet,Patek Philippe etc. to name a few? o_O
that will be in use even after a hundred years?Really?

I wouldn't pay $50 for a Patek Philippe. If someone gifted it to me I'd throw it up on eBay without reserve.

The stainless steel model has a sapphire front vs x-glass. Much stronger scratch protection.
Can you point to where it says the SS version has sapphire front glass? I thought during the keynote they said both the SS and Al versions had ion glass this time and I can't find any mention of sapphire front glass on the Apple site.

Geez, I assumed it stayed the same as series 3. I watched the whole thing and didn’t hear that mention. If it’s not sapphire on the new SS, what a waste of money over the aluminum.

Just watched the Apple Watch portion of the keynote again and there's no mention of the front glass material. It is possible they cut the reference out in the uploaded version. (I watched it live and I'm sure they said ion glass on both.) Having said that, the back of the watch in the promo video says 44MM STAINLESS STEEL & CERAMIC CASE . SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL . GPS . LTE .............
They could have cut it out because it was wrong!

It’s offline right now, but it’s in the Tech Specs on each watch in the Store. Stainless models have a Sapphire screen, all Aluminum - even S4 models - say ‘Ion-X strengthened glass’.

It’s in the Tech Specs. You can read it when the store comes back online (in one hour and two minutes).

So that's where the tech specs are.

Anyone know if Best Buy will have pre orders or launch day stock?

Looking to get a Stainless Steel in Silver to replace my original Apple Watch SS. Bummer my original came with a black sport band and that is not an option for the new Silver. Only snips with White. You have to get the all black case to get the Black Band.

I'm pretty sure that you can't order from BB until release date (next Friday, 9/21?). I too prefer to order from BB, all prices being equal. Might as well get the RZ points.

Thank you MacRumors for the story & links. Made ordering the right Watch at 3:01am (banging the link for 3 minutes until the store came up) much easier. Back to bed now.

You seem very out of touch with the real world. There exists people between "can't afford to buy food" and can afford watches which sell for "hundreds of thousands of dollars" where "under $1,000 is a bargain in comparison" isn't significant to their purchase. These people are allowed to have their own gripes with a product without being self-entitled. This person would just appreciate the option of being able to purchase the watch with a band he doesn't already own as was Apple's big selling point when the watch first came out.

I plan on just trading in my series 3 and picking one up that same day at BB

The aluminum watch scratches extremely easy (both the screen and the case). After a couple of years they look terrible, whereas my stainless steel 1 series still looks brand new three years later. The stainless steel case can also be polished out to take scratches out, and the additional weight over the aluminum does feel better.

The sapphire screen on the SS is also brighter and easier to read in sunlight.
I disagree completely. The lighter feel of the aluminum makes it feel like there's nothing weighing as heavy like the SS watch does. Also, I had the second gen SS and hated the screen...the sapphire screen was NOT as easily readable in sunlight like the ion-X glass version is.
