Thank you Samsung for thinking different in bringing true innovation forward that Apple will inevitably copy.
Apple doesn’t have to do everything as well. They are one company, yet everyone expects Apple to have their unique twist on every single tech product under the sun, though I must say that Apple is doing a mighty fine job of having quite the complete ecosystem.

A better technology would be to have your iPhone flat and activate a 3D hologram that displays 3D images above the phone. You can pinch and zoom to adjust the size the hologram. The image can be 2D like a spreadsheet or web page, or 3D for games or FaceTime.

Bear in mind Apple themselves are the first to admit they’re rarely first to the party. They see what the market demands and then they refine the heck out of it.

And foldable smartphones are not a new concept by any means, they started out decades ago with Nokia, Sony and many others. The only real difference with them now, is the screen. A technology that wasn’t around back then.

Just look at these beauties, and tell me the Samsung Fold didn’t take inspiration from the past (which is fine, nothing wrong with that)… Samsung Fold also included in piccie.

Living with the ZFlip for the past couple months.....my iPhone has been demoted to work phone and I barley use it. Apple needs to hire a designer that can do more than rehashed rectangles. It's so tired and repetative. iOS feels so Fisher Price against my daily Android experience. Nether platform is perfect and have their issues. But Apple needs to stop being slow on all fronts and start introducing new concepts. iOS needs a real interface overhaul.

Other than the benefits offered by the new display material, no other display tech changes are rumored for this year's upcoming iPhone. Apple introduced ProMotion with support for up to 120Hz in the iPhone 13 Pro last year.
Weren't there rumors that there would be upgraded ProMotion that went down to 1Hz instead of 10Hz so they could do an always-on display on the iPhone 14 pro?

Yeah the uncustomizable grid layout has been there since 2007…unchanged other than widgets. I was hoping iOS 16 was going to bring big design changes. I think that is part of why the iPhone launches are no longer exciting. It’s another rectangular phone with similar camera layout, same software etc. etc. etc.

Apple is SUPPOSED to be the on that stands out and "Thinks Different". However that is not what they are today. They have the money and resources to do better, but they don't. Safe is Tim Cooks game. A boring way for company with such a colorful history to just stagnate. They have this elitest attitude with nothing to back it up today. Competitors caught up years ago and there really isn't anything that special about the iPhone anymore. They have essentially abandoned the health push, there hasn't been any real innovation over there. Samsung has watches that take blood pressure....Apple should have been first to market with that. The health app is a mess compared to the Samsung one. I didn't know how bad it was until I spent time with the Samsung version. They need to get back to the front of the line.

Gotta thank Samsung for going with a WiFi 6E chip inside leaving Apple no choice but to follow. Apple need pushing seriously. Good news also for Macs in 2023. 4 x 4 MIMO please. Don't put on the stingy brakes.

I recommend consumers wait for the confirmed iPhone 14 specs with the September release before making an informed decision. It's not that far away. If you like the new Samsung devices, then go for it. You already know it has the folding features the iPhone definitely will not have.

I often wonder if that’s the consensus of most folks on here. If Apple didn’t tie us in to the ecosystem and make it doubly hard to leave, I wonder how many would switch.
I think for a lot of people, at least in North America, including myself, it’s mainly iMessage. If I switched to Android, I would probably try to use Microsoft’s services for everything (not Google), which technically I already use a lot of anyways. I have had an office 365 subscription for years. iMessage is always the main issue. Secondary to that would be AirPlay, AirDrop, AirPrint, FaceTime, etc.

That’s the whole selling point of Apple - the ecosystem.

Other companies are free to create their own walled garden. They didn’t, because they can’t. And with every new product that Apple releases, it just strengthens the value proposition, while weakening that of the competition’s.

Everyone keeps saying they want innovation from Apple, but the endless something-gate drama proves that no one actually wants the teething pains which come from true innovation. Apple users cant even accept changes to the battery % without creating drama.

Samsung can release the Fold-1 and iterate until the Fold-## which solves durability issues, but Apple has to release the Fold-##.

Phones with folding screens are gimmicks. Nothing more. A niche product at best.

If you want a regular size cell phone, you get an iPhone or a Galaxy. If you want/need something bigger, you get the max version.

If you need a tablet, you get a tablet.

I've found the Max size phone negates my need for a tablet. Before the 'Rona I got an iPad Pro and thought to myself "WOW, this is awesome, I'll never buy another laptop again".

Cue the 'Rona remoting into my WinTel based work computer, and an iPhone PM 13 and that was all over. I went to the office/field 99% of the pandemic, but that 1% I needed to run MS remote desktop on a computer with a real display and keyboard.

Fortunately, I ditched the butterfly keyboard MBP (I willed it to my wife and she won't use it!) for the new M1 MBP. (Awesome laptop, BTW) and I almost NEVER use my iPad anymore.

Folding phone. Why? Because you CAN? I just don't see Samsung selling a whole lot of these.

This article is just a stupid progression of clickbaity spec-ism. “Better selfies”? “Faster performance”? How to they know?? Apple is legendary for leveraging hardware and software integration to make the whole feel faster than the sun of its parts. Unless you’re one of those “MORE PIXELS” “MORE RAMS” “MORE HERTZ” people you’ll bypass this silly “comparison.” Besides, I really doubt folks considering a 14 are torn between that and a Galaxy Fold, so how useful is this article exactly?

What I really want to know is how are are peoples’ real-world experiences with foldable screen devices.

Here's How the Five Expected iPhone 14 Features Compares to Samsung Galaxy Fold 4

Samsung yesterday announced its latest flagship foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold 4. The new foldable is the company's fourth foldable handset and comes just weeks before Apple plans to announce the iPhone 14.

The Fold 4, compared to last year's Fold 3, has minor tweaks and improvements to build quality, display, user interface, and cameras. Here we've compared five Galaxy Fold 4 features with new features expected for the upcoming iPhone 14.

New Display Material

The Galaxy Fold 4 utilizes Samsung's latest display technology and the company's M12 material set. The new display material, compared to past generations, offers richer colors and improved brightness.

According to a report from The Elec, that same material set is rumored to be used for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max displays. The lower-end models of the iPhone 14 will stick with the M11 material set.

Other than the benefits offered by the new display material, no other display tech changes are rumored for this year's upcoming iPhone. Apple introduced ProMotion with support for up to 120Hz in the iPhone 13 Pro last year.

48MP Wide Camera

The Galaxy Fold 4 features an improved main camera with a 50MP lens and f/1.8 aperture. Paired with improved on-device image processing, Samsung says the hardware and software changes will yield better quality images and videos.

The iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to be gaining some significant camera improvements, including a major boost in the main camera. Compared to the current 12MP wide camera on the highest-end iPhone, the iPhone 14 Pro is likely to feature a 48MP wide camera.

The iPhone 14 Pro will be capable of taking 48MP photos when lighting conditions are ideal, but when they're not, the iPhone will resort to a process known as pixel-binning to take 12MP images. The iPhone 14 Pro's wide camera is also said to be receiving a 21% larger sensor to provide more detail to photos and improved low light capabilities.

The iPhone 14 Pro is also rumored to be capable of recording 8K video, the first ever for an iPhone. The Galaxy Fold 4, like current iPhones, is capable of recording 4k at 60FPS.

WiFi 6E

Originally rumored for the iPhone 13, this year's iPhone 14 could be the first iPhone to feature the newer WiFi 6E standard. The new standard offers improved speed, range, and capacity on public networks.

The Galaxy Fold 3 was the first Galaxy Fold to support WiFi 6E, with the Galaxy Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 following suite. You can learn more about WiFi 6E and the improvements it offers here.

Faster Performance

The Galaxy Fold 4 is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chips that are based on the 4nm fabrication process and can reach speeds of up to 3.2GHz. The iPhone 14 Pro will feature Apple's new and faster A16 Bionic chip.

Both the Galaxy Fold 4 and the iPhone 14 will be equally fast and speedy for the majority of customers and their day-to-day workflows. One difference, however, will be RAM. The Galaxy Fold 4 features 12GB of RAM that enables true multitasking on the device, while the iPhone 14 Pro, like current high-end iPhones, is expected to feature just half of that.

The RAM on the upcoming iPhone will feature LPDDR 5 type of memory, which is faster than previous models. This means that even with just 6GB of RAM coupled with iOS's memory management, the iPhone 14 Pro is likely to remain competitive with Samsung's 12GB of RAM offering.

Better Selfies

On the outside display, the Galaxy Fold 4 has a 10MP selfie camera, and the inside features an under-the-display 4MP camera. Like the Galaxy Fold 4, the iPhone 14 will feature an upgraded front camera.

Rumors point to the iPhone 14's selfie camera being a "high-end" camera with a wider f/1.9 aperture and autofocus capabilities. The wider aperture will allow more light to pass through the lens to reach the sensor for sharper, crisper photos and improved depth of field.

Innovations vs stagnation. Welcome to IOS 16.

It's incredible how everyone is complaining about the fold, and the creases - This is new technology and it has demonstrably improved from the first gen. Can we step back for a moment and realize we have phones that have FOLDING SCREENS? what is wrong with everyone?

Thank you Samsung for thinking different in bringing true innovation forward that Apple will inevitably copy.
I'll fix it for you:

Apple applies for patents for various things, including a folding iPhone (that's been around for YEARS).

Samsung scours the patents office for ideas. When they find something Apple has patents (or applications) for, they rush to develop something like it to claim to be first. It takes Samsung and their beta testers (buying customers) YEARS to make it fairly right.

Apple sits back and watches Samsung's mistakes and failures along the way.

Apple finally releases the product after several years of proper R&D in near perfect form.

Android & Samsung fans clamor that Apple copied it.

Wash, rinse & repeat.

Wasn’t the iPhone 14 pro rumoured to have promotion down to 1hz to enable the always on display? Shouldn’t that be mentioned under the screen technology section?
