“According to Kosutami, the bands are also set to feature a splash-resistant coating, although the bands themselves are not fully waterproof.”

I’m surprised these would not be waterproof. After a workout I shower with my Watch on to give it and the band a good scrub. 😳
Some of the current bands are water resistant.

But why? I personally prefer leather watch bands and the stainless steel ones. That said some nylon bands are great like the Omega like nato black and grey strap for the Apple Watch.

I just want them to come out with a stainless steel or titanium band for the Ultra.
What would you envision that hasn't already been released in a link or Milanese version? Or is it more of a color match?

With the rugged look of the Ultra, I'd love to see a more spartan version of a metal band for sure.

I wonder if these will fare better than leather with wear and tear. I’d like to try a different band to the silicone ones, but I work out frequently and these are the sturdiest.

They weren't killing cows to make watch bands and phone cases, it was using byproducts from already dead animals. I guess you're happy they will toss those parts of poor Bessie into the trash instead of putting them to use though?
This has already been litigated in the last three or four threads on the topic,

But you are completely factually incorrect

/// The bands are allegedly made from recycled nylon and polyester, with a twill weave pattern. Apple may have chosen these materials in an effort to appear eco-friendly, while simultaneously reducing their carbon footprint through the use of fabric-based leather substitutes. ///

Sarc on: Yes because nylon and polyester are more eco-friendly than leather.. Let's bury each and see how long it takes to disappear.. The recycled bit is fine of course..

I remain skeptical, they should have introduced these beside the leather and let the consumer decide...

Not to mention they are petroleum based plastic materials. Maybe they’ll go all Mercedes-Benz and use mixed household waste such as food residues, mixed plastics, cardboard, and baby diapers to create the bands.

Additionally, leather tanning is not very ecologically friendly. I'm curious about what they're replacing leather with (once we know for sure) and how the carbon footprint and animal product use compares.

Plastics, to quote Mr. McGuire.

It is plastic, that's all it is. They can call it "Vegan Leather" but it is just plastic and is less sustainable than leather.

But sounds better than Pleather.

I like the look 🧐

The braided loop is my favourite band currently, followed by the original leather loop, followed by the link bracelet, followed by Milanese loop. Silicon bands for exercise and sports loop for sleep. That’s all I wear at the moment. I can see adding fine woven to the mix

Do you have source for that? I know it sounds logical, but I haven't seen a verified metric that the amount of cattle killed for meat corresponds 1:1 with the leather needs. In other words, what if the leather requirement is bigger than what the beef byproduct can provide? Especially because less than 100% of the entire skin actually ends up as leather. Even less ends up as premium top grain leather because it needs to be free from defects.
From what I’ve read, leather is only something like 10% of the value of the animal. And wholesale leather prices have been going down over the past decade (for example). So it seems unlikely that there is an undersupply of leather that would make it economical to slaughter cattle only for their leather.

According to Kosutami, the bands are also set to feature a splash-resistant coating, although the bands themselves are not fully waterproof.

Really hoping this quality isn’t courtesy of a PFAS (persistent “forever chemical”) substance 🫤

A BBC News article I read some time ago (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-58595098) discussed the various uses of synthetic chemicals in common household items, and the inherent dangers they present to humans (being persistent in both the human body and our shared environment), by causing health problems.

One example the article mentions is "PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), a type of PFAS commonly used in water-repellent clothing.”.

Really hoping Apple aren’t about to introduce additional sources of PTFE/PFAS, especially in something that’s in constant contact with our skin⌚️

More of a color match and maybe a little bit wider band. I have the link bracelet and Milanese loop. The link bracelet looks pretty good but the Milanese loop looks awful with how bad the band clashes with the titanium on the watch.

If they release a black Ultra a black Titanium band would also be pretty sweet.

You wouldn’t work out with this band.

Um.......It looks like a piece of fabric of some type. That is heat pressed in the pattern form. Doesn't look durable.
The material it sitting on looked like a pigskin. Not sure if this is another fake.
Twill weave? well, it's visual sense yes, But in production, it is formed and pressed by heat-pressing machines.

Not to forget that like with a great pair of leather boots, if you take care of it, it will last you a lifetime. These cardboard bands? Not holding my breath

First picture looked kind of nice.. Like an Alcantara material.... Then it looked like cheap plastic in the second picture.
