More of a color match and maybe a little bit wider band. I have the link bracelet and Milanese loop. The link bracelet looks pretty good but the Milanese loop looks awful with how bad the band clashes with the titanium on the watch.

If they release a black Ultra a black Titanium band would also be pretty sweet.
Figured as much with the Milanese, hell it kind of clashes with my color matched SS!

I bought a non-Apple SS link bracelet and feel like it is just a bit too dull in the finish to match but could see how it might be a bit too shiny for an Ultra? Regardless, hope you get surprised today!

That looks very durable and resistant to fraying and scuffs. Hopefully AW Ultra is still under $1000. Gonna be a great year! Score one for the environment! Next year maybe a fine-woven Apple Watch housing instead of titanium?!!

They weren't killing cows to make watch bands and phone cases, it was using byproducts from already dead animals. I guess you're happy they will toss those parts of poor Bessie into the trash instead of putting them to use though?

If they are made from recycled materials then they are diverting plastics from the landfill and putting them to use.

Plus the material already exists so an animal doesn’t need to be raised, tortured and slaughtered along with all the environmental impact that has

Do you have source for that? I know it sounds logical, but I haven't seen a verified metric that the amount of cattle killed for meat corresponds 1:1 with the leather needs. In other words, what if the leather requirement is bigger than what the beef byproduct can provide? Especially because less than 100% of the entire skin actually ends up as leather. Even less ends up as premium top grain leather because it needs to be free from defects.

Additionally, leather tanning is not very ecologically friendly. I'm curious about what they're replacing leather with (once we know for sure) and how the carbon footprint and animal product use compares.
What if cows don't fart?
Same reference as yours.

I'm sure this is just the base material, undyed and unprepped - not sure what it will/could look like in the end, but it's going to be a stretch selling premium Watch models with a band made of recycled waste.

I just want them to come out with a stainless steel or titanium band for the Ultra.
This! They have a fantastic stainless steel band for years, but never updated it to match the graphite or titanium watches. If they bring out the Ultra in a dark color… please please please give us a matching titanium band 🙏🏼

Anyone feels like Apple should not ditch the leather material?

But why? I personally prefer leather watch bands and the stainless steel ones. That said some nylon bands are great like the Omega like nato black and grey strap for the Apple Watch.
Let me take a wild guess:
  1. The leather stuff is just not ethical, no matter what people might feel like. Too long of a story to get into it here.
  2. This new stuff is likely cheaper and gives Apple a chance to at least appear doing good.

Okay, can we meat eaters please quit perpetuating white lies like this?

I’m not advocating for going vegan. But I’m pretty sure every animal utilized in the food or clothing industry has suffered at some point, or at the very least lived a terrible life, with no access to open spaces, pumped with antibiotics, etc.

The various industries and corporations want as much leather as possible at the lowest possible price, and there’s no time or money to treat animals well.

I get that most people don’t care despite knowing this. We just want the finer things, preferably at a discount.

But can we please stop this kind of “we’re doing the animal a favor by using all of it, we’re really just helping it” kind of reasoning?

The cow was bred to get be processed into meat, leather, gelatin, etc. There’s nothing good about this for the cow, it’s entirely done for human interests with next to no regard for the well-being of the animal while it’s alive or being killed.
